1. I've got a Squier VM Jaguar Bass Special and I've replaced the pickups with a Wizard P/J Combo, replaced the pots to make it a passive VVT set-up, given it a fret-dress and a bone nut and I think it's great. Not just 'great for the money', but a great instrument.
2.
Actually, looking at the above picture it's clear what the problem is; the pickups are the same size, but one's right at the bridge, the other's right at the neck. It looks like the polepieces are spaced for the neck position (as with the Squier VM tele?), so therefore the polepieces are never going to line up at the bridge. This is why Jazz basses have the bridge pickup longer than the neck, and they're not spaced as far apart as these. Not a QC problem, a design problem. Still should sound fine though, I wouldn't let it worry you too much if you really like the bass.
^^as above. If there's a string imbalance problem then could this be addressed by adjusting the pole pieces on the two outside poles? They look like they should be adjustable with a screwdriver.
3. I've got the Wizard P/J Combo in my Squier VM Jag and I think they're great. They really respond to both plucking dynamics and the tone control (on the bass and on the amp) in a very pleasing way. I wouldn't think of buying any other sort of pick-up after the customer service I got.
4.
On a side note, wasn't for the leatherhead theatre was it, by chance?
Nope - it was the Wallingford area in Oxfordshire.
5. I've 'done' Grease twice now and it's great fun. On the other hand, I've just done The Sound Of Music and I think the bass part must've been written for the Tuba .
6.
I was just thinking about this as well, probably bridge and possibly pickups. Something I've noticed lately is the inconsistent spacing of the strings on my bass. Is this just luck of the draw or is there something with the bridge I can tweak? Basically the G string is a fair bit in from the side and the E string is very close to the side. It seems a bit off center - bridge to head that is. PS. Never played any other bass in my life so maybe its just standard. Also sorry for semi derail.
You need to move the neck in it's pocket slightly. Loosen the strings first, then loosen the neck screws and move the neck so the headstock goes down slightly. Tighten the screws, re-tune and check the spacing. You may have to do this a few times to get it right.
7. Thank you all - very kind of you. It's in beautiful condition with a nice, low action and needs a home where it'll be lovingly played and waxed. I've just noticed that on the last of the four photos there appears to be a 'blemish' on the edge of the guitar, roughly in-line with the neck p/up. That's a flash reflection off the strap-lock - the bass is unmarked.
8. For sale is my 'Made in Germany' Corvette with the passive J/J MEC p/ups linked to the 2-band Warwick pre-amp. It's got the waxed Bubinga body with Ovangkol neck and Wenge fingerboard. It has the deeper-section neck and larger fret-wire compared to the shallow-neck and vintage gauge wire of earlier years. It has D'Addario Chromes 40/60/80/100 gauge strings fitted. It was bought new by me (from The Guitar Works in Reading) in the Summer of 2009 and has been lightly gigged and 'orchestra-pitted' and very well looked after with regular cleaning and waxing. It comes in the usual Warwick gig-bag with all the standard case candy (tools, wax, straplocks etc) and I'm selling it because I don't play it any more and it deserves a good home (and I could do with the cash!). Any inspection welcome (preferred, actually) and it's £550 collected (South Bucks) or £570 delivered. If there're any more details or specific photos required, then just let me know.
9. I've got the VM Jag with the P/J p/up configuration which I put Wizard p/ups in, 'pacified' it with a V/V/T set-up with new pots, gave it a fret-dress and cut a new bone nut. I think it's great and much prefer it to my Warwick Corvette (which will be for sale on here shortly). It's now set-up with D'Addario Chromes, an almost straight neck and 4/64ths action at the 12th fret. The bridge is the standard Fender 'bent metal' bridge which has given me no problems at all. One thing I didn't like was the side dot fret markers which were half on the rosewood and half on the maple, and very difficult to see. I drilled these out (2mm drill) and then drilled the first bit of the hole to be 3mm. Then I glued in new white fret markers (2mm) and filled in the rest of the 3mm hole with dark wood glue. Snipped off level and sanded down the dots are really easy to see. The Modern Player Jag with its Maple neck, block markers and no binding is very tempting (with a b/w/b scratchplate) once I've sold my Warwick.
10. I've got a Corvette with the two j-style pickups - they hum and the two are not a hum-cancelling pair. It's never caused a problem on stage, but it's a real pain in an orchestra pit when surrounded by power cables, little transformers for keyboards and music stand lights etc etc. as you have to be super quiet between songs.
11. Bass and tone pedals (i.e. graphic e/q, fuzz, wah etc) into the Input. Time based pedals (i.e. delay, chorus, phase etc) into the Effects Send and Return and your tuner into the Tuner/Line Output
12. Good news. I did something similar by putting an Eminance Deltalite II 12" speaker into a Warwick neo 12" cab (with some re-porting from winISD) and ended up with an excellent cab. I keep looking for another Warwick cab on ebay to do the same thing with, but to no avail.

12" Cabs.
Good man! What size will you make yours?
I'm making each cab 55 litres and, using WinISD, tuned it to 50Hz with two 6.6cm x 13.4cm long ports. I've calculated and estimated that the speaker, ports and bracing will take up 10 litres so it's really a 45 litre cab for the Deltalite 2512. This design gives me a 2dB hump at 100hz (no bad thing) and allows me to run each cab at 150W before running out of cone excursion. Considering I'm using an Ashdown MAG300 which gives 300W at 4 Ohms, then this is just fine with me. This design will also work well if I upgrade my amp to somethig louder as I'll be able to drop the Eminence Kappalite 3012HO straight in and it'll work fine. I've made the external dimensions 47cm wide (so the head sits nicely on the top), 57cm high and 28cm deep (which is 25cm of cab plus an extra 3cm of wood for grille depth). All made from 12mm marine ply. I've made 3 guitar cabs before, but there was no bracing and air-tightness required with those so this will have to be a more careful build. It'll take a few weeks, me thinks, but I'll start a new thread with pictures once I get going.

12" Cabs.

They look great and have inspired me to get on and build my own cabs based around the 2512 speakers. All I need to do is find the time!
15. I also use an active pass in to the passive input all the time, with the input gain almost maxed out and the needle will occasionally hit the red. It is a dB cut, but my user manual doesn't say by how much and no, you can't damage it by doing this.
16. mmm...I don't know a) and I'm certainly not up for b. It's not arriving in the back of a Hercules is it??
17.
I think I have found a way to (legally) sidestep the US tax and export rules which will allow me to source a Genz Benz Shuttlemax 12.0 for around £650 so probably going to head in that direction.
You're right - UK prices are ridiculous!! Have you remembered to factor in VAT, Import Duty and the courier's charges for administration of the VAT & Duty to this - it can be about 25% extra on the costs!
18. According to the Warwick forum the factory were losing money on each Corvette they made, so they've outsourced the Corvette standard to Korea to keep the price down but make a profit. They've kept the Corvette $$ in Germany - with a suitable price increase.
19. A timely post as I'm thinking of Wizards in my Warwick Corvette. A great sound, and fantastic bass playing. Thanks for this.
