1. Guess which one of these basses I dislike the most http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1g9LcZTTJk...feature=related
 2.
However do expect a delay of a few days whilst customs have it. Usually takes about a week to arrive, 3 days to ship from the US and then 3 days in UK customs! They then write to you with a bill including import taxes and a bizarre handling fee. I just had a USA 1979 Precision (minus pickup and bridge) which cost me $1000 - the bill from Parcel Force who paid the fees was £97, just to give you an example.
Those import taxes seem totally random. I bought a bass 3 years ago off ebay from a guy in California. The bass cost £325 and the charges cost me £95. There seems no rhyme or reason to the charges I frankly think they just pick a random number.
 3. I've got an old Ashdown EB 150 watts and it's definitely loud enough to deal with a loud drummer (it has many times). You can get them for £100 secondhand and they have an output for an extension speaker if you need it. Great amps for the price.
 4. Do you mean a bass that does everything and sounds great on every type of music? Or something that does one thing really, really well?
 5. The guy selling it must thing that giving it a scrub with a wire brush and dettol will detract from it's Mojo in some way. Actually under all that filthy crud there could be a decent bass....who knows.
 6.
Another video from GTaranaki Festival. After that noisy girl there´s a great solo byt guy and the other bassist. Chek it out.
Nice jumper.
 7.
Anyone who's used the black nylons (either LaBellas or the Rotosound ones) can you tell me how long the black nylon coating lasts? One of the additional attractions of flats is that of hardly ever having to change strings - and while I love the look of the black ones, if they get tatty so that I'm changing as often as a Mark King soundalike then it defeats part of the object.
I've had the rotosound trubass tapewounds on my P/J bass for a long time. If you put a foam damper next to the bridge you'll get a very percussive thump with great definition when playing with a band. Sound great with a pick too. I recommend you add a little mid to your sound to bring their special character out. I prefer them to flatwounds which can sound a bit wooly.

 9. Hmmmmmm......I'm getting deja vu here. Didn't you post a thread about how great your cheapo OLP was recently? I wholeheartedly agree it's not the name on the headstock, how much it costs or whether it's made of plywood or platinum that matters. It's what a bass sounds like and feels like to play. My cheapo 5th hand 2002 Squire sounds and plays better than all my other Jazzes. Like you say.....it's got the Mojo (whatever that mysterious thing is?).

 11.
His diction is for crap, but at least it's an individual voice and not some interchangeable, autopitch corrected, beige voice.
Well I don't know if it's an individual voice, It's Stevie Ray Vaughn's.........but that trio of his sure can rock!
 12.
Apparently (and this was quoted in the bass mags of the late eighties so must be true...) JJ would coat his strings with margerine and leave them for weeks until they were really, really, really dead.
I heard it was lard!
 13.
I'd put money on it being a Nash, Guy mentions them at the back of the book, in his rundown of all the gear he's used over the years.
Good detective work! I think you're right, it looked a lot like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nash-Jazz-Bass--JB-6...3d59a25ff1040bc
 14.
Well I bought a coupla tickets. For a fiver they're cheap at the price. Although I'm sure he must have run out of amusing drunk and debauched bass guitar related anecdotes by now.............surely?
I was wrong.
 15.
The black Jazz? Dunno, I didn't hang around for the meet 'n'greet. What makes you think it was a Bravewood?
Just the fact it was reliced and didn't have a Fender logo on it (couldn't make that logo out). I know Bravewood do that kind of thing http://www.guitarrelic.com/bravewood-guita...avewood-guitars
 16.
Cya there!
What kind of bass was that then? A Bravewood?

 20. This is a brilliant sounding bass by the way! I had one back in the 90's fantastic punchy sound and great necks. Somebody buy it soon................before I do!
 21. My head says NO but my heart says YES.
 22. Here we go http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=88587&hl= Retrovibe!!!!
 23.
cheers Del, (quick google of chris squire) am not a Yes fan mate so wont be looking for any inspiration there. I think a Ric is just one of those basses ive always had in mind. However like you said, I aint heard to many rave reviews recently of them. Oh aye happy belated birthday mate (seen your name at the bottom of the home page the other day)
And I've also got a friend who has a Rickenbacker 4001 which cost him a small fortune and sounds woolier than a field full of sheep. The guy who plays with Paul Weller has one and whenever I see him on TV the sound is wooly too. There's a guy who sells Rickenfakers I see popping up on basschat now and again. You should try one of those first......£299 cheap as chips. EDIT Aha ...This is the Rickenfaker guy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Retrovibe-RV4-Bl...ents_Guitars_CV Also does Stingrays! By the way a guy bought the jazz bass version and put up some mp3s of him playing......it sounds better than the real thing. I'll see if I can find the thread.
 24.
I hear what your saying,,,however as a said I dont see the point in having this kinda bass when you dial out the mids,,,which gets rid of the 'stingray sound'. I like being heard in ma band,,,as a three piece there aint no hiding my playing,,,plus the level I play at through ma ampeg rig certainly cuts through the mix, its specicifically the glassy sound the bass gives I dont like,,,,I had to boost the bass on the amp and the bass itself and pretty much cut out all mids so I could get a tone I like. im getting the year of this bass from the serial number on the bridge. I went onto the EB website and got the year from there.
It's strange, I have a friend who plays with a bluesband and has a MM Sterling. I really don't like the sound he gets with the MM when it's being played without the band but once the band starts up it really sounds excellent. You can hear every note and it's bassy and punchy and clear. I've heard him play through his amp with just vocal PA and also through a big P.A. and the sound is exactly the same i.e. sounds a bit iffy on it's own but really great when playing with the band. He used to play a Precision but the MM sits in the mix so much better. Maybe you should get yourself a long lead and go out front when your band are playing to see how the Stingray sounds when the rest of your band are playing. Meanwhile have a butchers at this video which shows the diffferent sounds you can get with a Stingray ...including reggae! http://www.musicmanuk.co.uk/video_stingray4.htm By the way I don't have a MM but I've been converted by seeing the guy I was talking about above play his and if I had the spare cash I'd buy yours right away.....it's a looker.
 25.
This could get interesting this, Oh go on then, I'll chuck one that'll get hair and teeth flying, Adam Clayton (there, I've said it ) ok ok, not totally awful but a bit lucky inne?
+1 The basslines he plays are p*sh and he can't even play them in time. Of course I may just be jealous
