1. Pete always said that the neck was the single most expensive element in the making of a Wal.
2.
It's definitely an LB, and yes it did have the box but I used it to ship my Barefaced cab to barneyg42 last week, sorry! Maybe he'll send it to you? Mayeb it's a certain limited edition of the LB212 that just had 20 made, there're are couple of shops currently listing the LB212 as in stock.
Well who knows?! I'll drop him a line to see if he kept the box, cheers!
3. Should also mention these are UK-made cabs, for those that are that way inclined.
4.
Where did you hear that there only 20 made? I bought a new one a few weeks ago and the store still has 2 more in stock! Steve
Guy from Ashdown told me in an email. I still have it if you want proof! Are you sure they were all LB series and not VS? Did yours come in the box, and did you keep it? If so, could I borrow it to ship mine?! Cheers Gareth
5.
Yeah very good call putting it back to standard. Stunning bass. If you ever want to sell and I find a large stash of cash hidden under my bed then give me a shout
I shall keep that in mind, althought I can't see it goimng anywhere... although I've said that many time before
6.
Wow, that 1970 Fretless Precision is my dream bass as its the year of my birth and fretless. Totally stunning.
Thanks, and yes, it is an amazing bass: light, woody, resonant. It's become my main bass very quickly. I put it back to passive though, as although the P Retro was nice, it wasn't the tone!
7.
still not interested in splitting mate?

Shame your not splitting, I'm after the 1x15 in this format. Jem
If Jem still wants the 1x15 and you want the 4x8 then I'd be happy to split.
8. Never been but I bought a Ken Smith from Paul a few years back and the transaction was smooth as....
9. I have decided to rationalise my cabs down to just a 2x10 and 1x15, so this original series Ashdown LB212 is up for sale. The original LB cabs were either 1x12 or 2x12s with neo drivers, and produced in the UK to coincide with the release of the LB30 head. Only 20 LB212s were made, so it's a rare cab, and is rated at 300 watts with a 4 ohm impedance. You won't find a new one anywhere (I know that for a fact, as I contacted everyone who had them listed on their websites when I was looking only to be offered the VS212 instead, which is 8 ohms and non-neo), and they sold for £368 new (the VS212 sells for £299). This cab is in mint condition and has seen very little use. I am including a Roqsolid cover (£30) and asking a firm £275 collected from NE Hampshire. Cheers Gareth
10.
Even better cabs than mine and lighter to carry (and courier). Bah humbug bump
Sorry
11. Please somebody buy my stuff for sale so I can get this!
12. Just bought a power amp for my band's PA use from Grahame. He went out of his way to get the amp to us quickly and even let us use it at two gigs before we splashed the cash. The guy's a gent, and I would recommend him without reservation!
13. Postage is looking like £15 per cab with a standard (i.e. £50 cover) next day service per cab. Insured to £250 adds £6 per cab.
14.
I have the combo version of the Spyder head (550 Touring), excellent amp, not being a natural bass player I probably don't use the amp to its full potential. However, it produces the sound I like and has plenty of Oomph. I too changed the stock valves to JJ's due to one of the chinese valves going microphonic, Ashdown sent a new set of JJ's as the amp is still under warranty. If I had the spare cash I would certainly be interested in buying your head as I have another side project I looking at. Lee
Cheers Lee! I hope your project gets going soon!
15.
MB1. PMd.
MB1 on a mission to buy all the Ashdown in the world, mwahaha!!!!
16. My 1970 fretless P weighs 9lbs.
17. As Bassbus says, the nut should be cut really low, on some fretless basses I've seen it is actually touching the fingerboard! Neck should be almost straight, but with a hint of relief. An easy check is to "fret" and the first fret and the end of the neck, and look at the gap between the string and the fingerboard around the 9th fret: there should be a gap (the string has to be able to vibrate when plucked without hitting the 'board), but not much. Also make sure your bridge saddles follow the radius of the fingerboard. The Gary Willis setup manual is a good place to start. Good luck!
18. Blimey, deal-tastic sale here people!
19. Both cabs side by side on the floor and the amp on top in the middle? Just a thought.....
20. Super super heads.. Lovely warm, creamy valve goodness... Plenty loud enough to do a pub or small club gig with... Stick some lower gain valves in the preamp if you want a clean sound... What's not to like?
21.
very nice review - i wish more were like that. now, of course i want it, and i hate you !
Haha, sorry about that. I shot it totally off the cuff, which is why I come up with such gems as "when you turn it up, it gets louder"! D'oh! Anyway, half tempted to keep this as it does sound so good, but for now it is still available...
22. Thanks for the comments guys. I will try to record something for the LB in due course, in the meantime....bump!
