1. My main gigging bass is a 1970 fretless P. Bashed up but such a great player and tone......
2.
Do you need a cab attached to use the di? I couldn't use the di on it's own?
Yes, you must have a speaker (or dummy, I guess) load attached to these heads.
3.
You had a contract, that it was verbal does not matter, you fulfilled it. They failed to fulfill it. Small claims court, join the union now and they will deal with it for you. Most importantly the manager should learn not to treat people in this way.
This ^^^

MB1 Feedback

Another excellent transaction with Martin, this time an Ashdwon Mini Neo 1x15. Great communication, prompt payment, and all the MB1 humour we know and love
5. Ah, my first "real" amp was one of these. Have a Tracelicious bump on me Marc!
6.
Basically when they do start going they will show signs of tone changes, microphonics which i think I've heard via guitarist Marshall whereby when he touched the amp or moved it it gave a pinging type of sound and eventually a squealing if that makes sense ? would that be right. ?
Yep, that's the classic symptoms you describe.
Can you replace yourself as I've heard of bias settings need set up.
Bias only applies to power stage valves. Preamp valves are just a case of swapping in and out. Simples.
7. Preamp tubes should last for years, although their life span can be shortened by sudden changes in temperature, knocks and bumps etc... Assuming they are treated well, they should only need replacing when they become noisy or microphonic.
8.
I was just going to post - who do we know played a Wal like this?
Said in his best "Through the Keyhole" voice That is a good looking Wal indeed, but agree it's overpriced.
9. It would appear that this is a known fault
10. I have used Interparcel a lot lately. Whenever I use UPS or City Link through them the guys always turn up on schedule, are polite and efficient, but if I use TNT it's a total lottery! I even had a TNT office call to say the driver was in my road but couldn't find my house, so I told them exactly where I lived and they still failed to pick up on the scheduled day! Interparcel are always great at refunding if a collection is missed, but as you say, it doesn't compensate for the wasted time....
11. I recently sold a cab to Ian. A pleasure to deal with: great communication, prompt payment etc. No hesitation in recommending him.
12. It's not my fault they give these things such stupid names!!!!
13. My Gramma is too small for my new cabs, so looking to upgrade to a Great Gramma. Anyone want to swap+cash to you?
14. Does it have to be all valve? If so, then the Ashdown LB30 is a good starting point: it's only 30 watts but plenty loud enough for most pubs and clubs if you have decent cab(s) to go with it. If you want more power then maybe consider the hybrids with valve preamp section and either MOSFET (e.g. Ashdown Dual Tube series) or digital power sections (e.g. Genz Benz Streamliner, Gallien Krueger MB Fusion). All the tone, but none of the weight an all-tube head brings.
15.
I guess I could amend it...
That was what I was thinking!
16. Thanks, everyone, for your comments. I think I'm going to go with an SPB2 and a KiOgon wiring harness for now.
17. Musicians' Union contract?
18. So my '88 MIJ P bass is lovely, really well put together, lightweight and a pleasure to play. The only weakness I think it has is that the pickups don't have much weight behind them, so I was thinking about swapping them out for something with a bit more output. As the bass is stock I am a litle hesitant to do this, but as it's not exactly a rare bass I guess it'll never be worth big money anyway, and as I could always return it to original would a couple of solder joints make a huge difference? The other question is what to drop in there if I do change? I'd like it to keep the sound of a P bass, so nothing that colours the tone too much, but it must have more oomph, so Wizard, Fralin, Nordstrand, a Seymour Duncan? What does the BC massive think? Cheers Gareth
19.
I think I bought the Levy's bag from you a couple of years ago? What was it you didn't like about them - its my regular gigging bag these days, and apart from limited storage, I find it hard to fault. I even bought a double version (and I don't like double bags!).
Indeed you did! The only thing I don't like about Levy's bags is when you use them for basses with angled headstocks: I wanted something that cushioned the neck to prevent any damage should the bag take a tumble!
20. What kind of venues are you playing, and does the bass go through the PA? I found my M300 and 6B cab was too "polite" in most pubs and small clubs, and you'd be pushing less air with the PB300. Cheers Gareth
21. I liked the Mono bag but never really though the protection was that good. The Contego wins on that score but is a lot heavier. The Protection Racket is also a nice bag, but it bugs me that they're so deep, you could almost fit two basses in there!
22. The 1x15 is SOLD pending. The 4x8 is withdrawn for now.
