1. I have TWO of these for sale. New in January, they have the odd light scuff but nothing major. £149 new, I am asking a firm £100 each, collected from NE Hampshire or Central London, or I will post at your expense. Thanks Gareth
2.
Sorry Gareth but your timing is rubbish! Excellent price, close enough to come and try, and even seen you demo it on YouTube, but I have just blown my savings on a '73 P. Oh well, you have saved me from embarrassing myself by showing that even a top fretless can't fix my shocking intonation
Haha, no problem. That 73P is a lovely one
3. Original post updated with additional pictures
4. I had hoped this would be the one, but GAS means this great bass is up for sale. My lovely Tony Franklin Precision Bass. All the spec is here. 5.
Pretty sure the TV combos are hybrid
Yep, valve pre and class D power as far as I can tell....
6.
Materialistic purchase is an addiction...i.e. there is a definite, short term high following the acquisition of a new "item" (bass). But here's the thing...as with any addiction the high doesn't last and the subsequent "come down" leaves the addict with a desire to recapture the high. To compound this the law of diminishing returns is at work...the high weakens after each hit (purchase)...leaving the addict forever seeking the same high that the original hit provided! A word to the wise...this site is populated by and large by bass purchase addicts. It's almost as if the central, most important core of the activity ....the human being interaction of playing the instrument to make music...is of no importance! Don't believe me? Compare the amount of gear related posts to playing tip inquiries on bass chat..........
I think this is spot on.
7.
Depends if the tension between them is similar or not.
This. Some flats are low tension (Thomastik, La Bella black/white nylons) though.
8. The scratchplate in question is from a 1971 P bass, and has a notcable curl adjacent to the corner of the treble pickup.
9. I use the Hoscos and they are very good.
10. A friend of mine, knowing I'm a bass player, assumed I would be able to identify this instrument. I have no idea what it is, but I am confident the BC posse will be able to confirm?! Cheers Gareth
11. I imagine it wold be an absolute pleasure to get up every morning and go to work there....
12. How lovely is that!
13.
They're plain....I'm after a wound one...thanks for trying :-)
I didn't spot that. The D'Addario is plain steel, but the Rotosound appears to be roundwound.
14. Strings Direct sell two
15. Swapped the necks over and I prefer them this way. Also had the added benefit of shifting the weight a touch, making the basses more equally balanced and weighted.
16. A good choice. I played that bass the last time I was there and it just felt right. Enjoy!
17. Two seriously good cabs right there. I had the same setup a while back and it was fantastic.
18. Genuine Fender tortoiseshell 4-ply (tort/white/black/white) scratchplate from a Tony Franklin Precision Bass . A friend sourced it for me from the US so I could try it on my fretted TF bass, but it doesn't look right to me against the amber body finish. It was on the bass for less than a day. It is a 13 hole version and should fit the American Standard series.T The only difference between this and a standard 'plate is this one has a slot in it for a pickup selector switch (on the TF it allows for P, J or P+J), so perfect if you are planning to mod your P bass! I'm looking for £50 posted in the UK. Collection in NE Hampshire or Central London also welcome for £47. Thanks Gareth
19. Bump for a seriously nice bass, I have fretted and fretless of this model: probably the best regular Fender with Custom Shop quality.
