1. That's pretty much how I did mine. The only differences are 1) I used carpet tiles which I [s]stole[/s] [s]lifted[/s] borrowed from work, 2) I cut a carry-handle slot in mine -- I highly recommend this, it makes it dead easy to carry even if you only have 1 or 2 fingers free! and 3) the layout of the foam. I used 3 bits of foam because at the time I had an SWR Triad, and I was a bit concerned that 2 bits of foam wouldn't handle all 80+lbs..! I expect it would have though. I suppose it's possible that with that centre strip added, mine will block less vibration than yours. It certainly works bloody well as it is though! Excuse the tatty black paint on the underside... the spray can ran out and after all this time I still haven't got my arse into gear to buy another. So... yay for homemade Grammas! 2. A work of genius. Mrs ezbass should be justifiably proud of that. I'm surprised anyone could bring themselves to cut it!
  3. Totally different from the stuff being talked about, but this is just incredible...
  4. Pros:

I'M GETTING ONE! THIS WEEK!! *jumps up and down like an excited 3-year-old*
Cons:

It's not here yet.
5. My experiences of Interparcel are good. But Parcelfarce? I wouldn't entrust stuff to them if my life depended on it.
  6.
Think Whitney may have had a little Colombian marching powder before her performance.
I'm pretty sure her people will tell you that She Doesn't Do That Sort Of Thing Any More...

Doc, I object. Lifts have feelings too, y'know! signed Otis E. le Vator

I like Marcus, and enjoyed the Frankenstein vid. Not his best though, admittedly. Run For Cover is a belter. I hate Nick Cave with a passion, and thought his vid was mind numbingly dull. Doesn't make me right and you wrong, or indeed viceversa. Newsflash! We all like different stuff!
  9. My aunt used to live in Thorrington, on the Brightlingsea road, so I spent many long happy childhood summer days there. Know the area well.
  10. Yes, it's a Pro model. Bloody nice one too!
  11. Following on from the Gary Numan/Pino thread, with the mention of Joan Armatrading... this got me thinking, how many solo artists' albums have you ever bought purely because of the musicians (specifically the bassist) on there, rather than because you like the solo artist themselves? Example -- I can take or leave Joni Mitchell, in fact she annoys the hell out of me a lot of the time, but I bought 'Mingus' purely to hear Jaco's work on it. This doesn't count if the solo artist in question is the bassist..!
  12. Hi Matt, sorry but I won't be at Bass Day... too much of a trek for me.
  13. Female friend of a friend wants to learn our glorious instrument, but wants a girly tutor. Does anybody know of such a person, ideally in the Bristol area? Said learner lives in the centre of town. Ta.
  14. SX do a number of short scale basses too, e.g. this.
  15.
Maybe you should put your original post into an email to the rest of your band as you have outlined your anger and frustration quite clearly. If after reading that, they still don't get the message, then leave them to it.
Good call. If you still think the band can be saved, then next time you get an email saying 'is everything ok', 'we would be heartbroken if you left', 'great playing at the last gig' etc etc., reply with "Actually no, I'm bloody not ok and this is why..." and then tell them exactly what you've just told us. Alternatively if you think it's a dead loss, leave now and join/start something else. IMHO, if that band was a horse...*BANG*
Best of luck for whatever you do.
Yup, that too.
  16. You can't possibly fault the finish on the body though.
  17. S'ok, we still agree on lots of things. The coolness of jazz and the dubiousness of Dood's hair'style', to name but two.
  18.
You are, of course, completely correct. Which is why I ask that all of this is taken in the spirit in which it is intended - as part of a journey and not as a destination.
If it's part of a journey, to be honest it's starting to feel like the bit where I get pulled over by the police and told to explain exactly why I'm driving a Caterham rather than an Escort. I can't be arsed with this any more. I refuse to justify what I did with my own money. Yes you'll probably say that you're not asking me to justify anything, well soz mate but that's how it feels. You probably think I've wasted time and cash, well that's fine. You carry on thinking that. Just stop expecting me to accept it.

  20. Never mind the bass... what you really need is poodle-perm hair..!
  21.
There's nothing wrong with any of this. I am just trying to save people a lot of hassle chasing things thay probably already have.
The build process of my bass -- from initially visiting Jon to select woods and decide on finish & hardware, right through to collecting it and having the dream realised -- was one of the least 'hassling' things I have ever done! If the rest of my life was as much 'hassle' as that, I'd be the most relaxed man alive.
  22.
The aspect of all of this that I am 'challenging' is the practice of individuals specifying the minutiae of a new build to their own exacting standards vs just getting a great instrument and spending some quality time with it in order to make it sing.
I could just as easily challenge your decision to buy a Wal or grow a beard. It's individual taste, isn't it? What's wrong with that?
  23.
And a small point to note. If an issue has been debated before, it doesn't mean it shouldn't be revisited. I have never discussed this issue before, as far as I can recall, so I reserve the right to raise it here and to engage in an identical debate to the ones which have already been rehearsed. If you have exhausted the debate in your own mind, then go start another thread on something you are currently mulling over and leave those that want to discuss this particular issue to do so in peace.
OK. Well in that case, look out for my forthcoming brand new threads on playing whilst singing, whether jazz is any good or not, vegetarians, which is best out of a Jazz or a Precision, Jade Goody, strap length, slapping, football, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc...
