I think Cort had a hand in Lakland Skyline series production too!

New pre amps on the way from Lehle/Basswitch but unsuer of price - Premier Guitsar has quick demo up but cannot adda link as my work PC is blocking YouTube. Nice looking units but likely to be expensive as they're Lehle and brand new to market.

I understand they are touring Porno later this year

Now the flying accusations and questions of judgement, taste and manners has subsided **ahem** I'll add that a more recent album (from the last decade or so) Musicology has some great tunes - "On the Couch" for instance doesn't exhibit any crazy tricks, riffs or that but the slow groove of the tune and that killer drum sound, the weight of the notes and thick bass tone to the feel from those sustained notes to dead stops had me hooked upon my first listen. I like Prince, sure he's made some sh*te but I ain't heard a good Metallica album in 40yrs didn't stop us from adding 'Bells' to a ceilidh set we played recently at a friends wedding;) I think a lot of ppl can respect Prince for being a musical polymath. From songwriting, production to performance he's written more hits than I have and I'm fricking awesome

Alex Just to repeat what's already been said but... As you may know the drive on the MXR automatically engages the modern function so you're getting a more modern scoop to the tone. The W&C PPB gives a useful boost and it'll defo bump you in the live mix. I used one in conjunction with a ODB-3 with good effect! Does your bass core tone have a scoop to it and maybe your needing to adjust where you sit in the mix, push the mids more to popke out between the guitars? I like the MXR Bass OD but it does add some of that modern sound on the clean blend knob - Ashdown Lomenzo Hyperdrive or the Nate Mendel might be worth a look (the demo's at least) to see if your needing a specfic frequency boosted or something with a clean blend to keep your core tone thick and present Perhaps a eq pedal would allow you to boost the frequencies in conjunction with your current drive? Would the guitarist be willing to look at the bands sound as a whole unit and tailor their tone so you have a good big wall of sound? I suspect you'll have to fit in with their sound. Half the fun is finding your place in the mix and maybe your next practice you should go with the mindset of doing that and not concenbtrating on the actual rehearsal? for maybe the last 30 minutes get the band to play the same tune a cple of times, record each take on your phone if you can, make adjustments to your EQ (and write them down), record, adjust and repeat. Get the guys in the band involved and get their opinion too cause once you all have your place in the mix you'll be a better sounding band. Listen back at home the following day, maybe get the lads frok the band round too to hear the differences. It's more productive than getting frustrated that you've wasted money and time on rehearsal and you will sound better as a unit, make recording easier in the future etc etc. I look forward to hearing how you get on!!

I use an MXR bass overdrive and find its got a slightly 'modern sound' on the clean blend - the way I use the pedal it turns my passive bass into somehting with just that little hint of scoop - something akin to the modern setting on the M80+ di pedal MXR make. I find the MXR sounds good in the live mix with two guitars and I tend to leave it engaged with the clean blend just around noon and the drive turned nearly fully anti-clockwise for adding a bit of edge to the tone and I then add in a little more gain (with my foot) if the song required a tad more filth. I have a Cog pedal for more heavy drive and the two complement each other well - I've tried running the MXR in the efx loop for that pure clean blend and it's very pleasing used this way too - my amp has both a series and parallel loop which is a real nice feature especially for sticking drive pedals in with the clean signal. McNash you're welcome to give it a try sometime we're only round the corner from each iother ...sorta! G

Quite enjoy the Mesa walkabout scout which seems to have been forgotten about. Solid sturdy cab with down firing passive speaker. Sounds big and you can 'feel' the notes pumping out. If like to a/b with other cabs but this is my second. Do like it for a one cab solution.

I've played Finnegans loads over that last year or so. It's my old band cd you can see stuck to the wall behind the bar 😉 I'll swing by but for sure. I know the room and how it sounds. Great place to play!!

I think I played a compact when one toured forum members a few years ago but was testing it against an Aguilar Db410 so my perception of it was maybe out of context. A BF 215 does look appealing as do the (I think out of production) Berg NV215 but they are pricey and don't come up very often! I drive and have the space to transport a slightly bigger rig so lightweight is a bonus but not a necessity. I think a dubster might be a little too treble shy but thats just a thought no had any experience playing one. I do need some top end

Thinking about shifting the 112 and getting a 115 or 2x15. What folks thoughts on suitable boxes of doom! Never play with the tweeters on and prefer that old vintage tone, I'm not a slap'n'pop player and I'm more about providing a low end/supporting tone for the band rather than being a flamboyant high mids sort of tone.

The JC has a great feeling neck and out thumps a p bass. If you're seriously considering a semi hollow I'd recommend the JC over Gretsch/Gibson. In saying that the Warwick sounds pretty sweet too from the demo's I've heard and seems to do the vintage thump and that more scooped 'modern' sound with both volumes rolled up very well! Slightly off topic but a p bass fitted with that JC pick up and the varitone would be an interetsing experiment!
