Evening all I had never really liked the look of Jazzes (the metal bit where the controls are for some reason has always put me off? dont ask me to explain why, I dont know lol) so never really ever got round to playing one. I also bought a USA Precision cos I like "the" Precision sound when I had some readies knocking about, didnt bother trying a Jazz then in the shop even when both would have been there (the P and the J) to try out against each other. After going to the Deftones gig at Brixton on Weds night (Awesome) I thought id have a little shufty in the usual places on Denmark St for anything of interest. As usual for me V&R had the stuff I most identified with, tried the Ric 4000 and then clapped eyes on http://www.vintageandrareguitars.com/web/o...asses/item/7152 The helpful chap there said I should really give it a go, I thought : hmmm... Jazzes aint my bag... even though I have never tried one... hey thats a bit unfair, im not giving them a chance... lets give it a go. And WOW. That is surely the BEST neck ive EVER played on a bass. EVER. EVERRRR. Very fast, the right width, the right depth, everything about it was incredible. Felt comfortable and the tones you could get out of it were amazing. Are the modern Jazzes of a similar ilk... ie. fast thin necks, easy to play etc? I might have to get me one after this experience but a vintage one is not going to be obtainable due to the price attached to them.

I quite like throwing a third on top of a root (fairly up the neck) - that can really define the whole sound with another chord instrument playing along to get the whole register

Hi guys I really want to get low action on my Ric... but is it actually physically possible? The bridge pickup cover as we all know is massive... and I dont think I can really go as low as id like to because of it. Anyone here play a Ric with low action? Id like the strings to be as close as I can get them to the fretboard without "clacking". Cheers peoples

Personally I think it's great when people take on these little "projects"... sense of achievemtn gained when you get something back up and running nicely must be great. Keep us posted fella!
Stag has an SVT 5 pro, bridged in to an SVT 610. Hopefully he will be along soon to tell us how structural engineers have banned him from turning it up about 3 on the dial.
did someone call? Yes, bridged mode works lovely. 1350w into my SVT610. Extremely, extremely loud if required. Its never been above 1 in the house for fear of destroying my terraced street entirely in a domino effect disaster. Sometimes my internal organs stop working if I stand too close to it at a gig, but thats half the fun. In fact, at my last gig, I quote this text from a friend
AAAAAAGHHHH the stag bass is making my pants disintegrate
obbm can sort you out with a cable should you not have one... his cables are proper thick as well

I would say the V-Type would be the way forward as well... ...I was after a BSP for ages - they dont turn up very often sadly. And when they do they tend to have US power transformers. So I gave up and bought an SVT 5, which basically is the BSP with another amp in it. lol

BassCat got hold of a Squier P recently in white (very Sid) that sounded phat as phuq at his gig that I attended last week. So much so I thought it had a far better in yer face thump than his normal axe (MIM Precision), and both were used in the same night so it was quite easy to compare the two...

Hmmm... I may have to look into getting Washburn set very low to see if it makes a difference (dont want to fiddle with my gigging axes at the mo). Cheers for all the suggestions chaps!

Good evening peoples. Ive been very lazy on the bass recently. Not many gigs (left one band, other one only does a gig every few months). But now the missus does Spanish lessons on Monday and is out on Tuesday, so im forcing myself (gently!) to get back on tha 4-string thang on these otherwise "free" nights other than improving my Playstation 3 trophies list. So... ive got a bit of my mojo back (cheers for that one Cole/Tweedy woman) and now want to push on a bit. Which has led me to tapping. Can anyone tell me if my action / guitar etc are simply not suited to it? Im using my Ric or my P-Bass. I would say both have a reasonably high action, certainly the Ric due to the Pick-Up-Cover-Of-Stupidness getting in the way of the strings... im thinking perhaps the tension on my strings is a bit too much on the Fender is a bit too much as well - by that i mean the strngs are rather taut/tight/something else beginning with "T". Or (shudder) Im rubbish / a weakling! I feel like im really having to wallop my right hand down onto the fretboard to firstly even get the string against the board, and secondly to get a proper audible note out of it. Any hints or tips would be appreciated. I know its a hard technique as techniques go... and I think im possibly making it harder for myself. Cheers m' dears
