1. You are making the Sunbeams seem very tempting. Pity about the price. I could try the Overwaters and heavier D'Addarios for the same!
2. I have used DR Fat Beams and hated them. so not really up for more DR. I want to go heavier gauge, lower tension so I still get the playability of my EXLs. I certainly can't be bothered with Overwater if it's going to be a hassle getting them although they do seem to be what I'm after. I will probably just plump for heavier D'Addarios.
3. I have been using D'Addario for years. Specifically EXL 180s, the gauges of which are...035/055/075/095. However my latest bass has shown a difference in string volume between the EA, and DG strings which I have had to compensate for by severely adjusting the pickup heights and using a bit of compression. Not a major problem although the bass side of the pickups are now so low as to be less useful as thumb rests. And I don't really like a lot of compression. Anyhoo, as I like the sound of the existing pickups and not really wanting to swap them I thought the best option would be go for a slightly heavier gauge of string. I have read a few glowing reports about Overwater strings and so now seems a good time to try them. My dilemma is whether to go up to Overwater Light Nickels at 045/065/085/100 or medium at 055/075/095/105. Medium may be too much of a jump but Lights might not fix the problem. If anybody with experience of Overwater strings would like to jump in with some comments about tension that would be cool. Or indeed if anyone has used heavier string gauges to solve a similar output problem that would also be very cool. And the gang. Ta.
4. I had it once while trying to sell some of the wife's jewellery. It was genuine Tiffany stuff but the warning came up. Not long after ebay suspended my account. They were incredibly unhelpful and stubborn when I tried to sort it out and eventually I just opened a new account.

SOLD

My current bass fund is missing a zero and I yet again failed to win the lottery.
6. MTD Kingston. Couldn't get on with the tone but played beautifully. Don't judge me...but I took it to crack convertors when I needed mortgage money! I should have kept it and swapped the electrics. Kiss Pinball machine. Only got a couple of hundred for it. Should have kept it as an investment.
7. Let me know how you get on.
8. Careful now.
9. It does sound to me that the string is making contact with the pole piece on the pickup. I do that sometimes because I dig in quite a lot and it results in a click/pop from the contact being made and the string doesn't ring cleanly, reducing the volume. You say you have moved the pickups away from the string. Try moving it further or just as a test, cover the pole pieces with a bit of electrical tape.
10. It's far from meaningless. The Lakland sound clips are very useful. For a instance it's easy to hear a difference between the Bob Glaub and Duck Dunn models which in itself is enough to help formulate an opinion. And as for quality of sound, surely no computer literate, thorough researching, Lakland affording bass player is going to listen through laptop speakers to make a decision? Headphones or an aux in to a stereo are both easily achievable solutions. IIRC Fender did actually have some sound samples a few website versions ago.
11.
loving this thread too! this one has great lines across the beat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KVD-Nf4CSM...feature=related
Just watched this again and it still gives me goosebumps.
12. Nice one. Good luck and have fun!
13. Can we be certain it's spam and not just the natural evolution of the off topic forum?
14. I have been a die hard maple fan for years but recently have found a love for rosewood. Maybe it's an age thing? EDIT. WoT beat me to it!
15. The next one.
16. I saw Rush once. To be more accurate I walked out halfway through the first song. Primus were brilliant though. I think I've seen Level 42. Can't be sure.
17. I got one too.
18. Hollow bodied minty goodness! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hutchins-Memphis-Min...#ht_3321wt_1139
19.
I would say probably somewhere around the £3290 of taxpayers money as a guess
Fixed.

SX Basses

Rondo and SX just offer the best range at that price range bar none. It's even truer of the guitars. Where else can you get maple fretboarded Les Pauls?

Which is a shame because of this beauty...and that headstock. http://www.rondomusic.com/URSA2MNHUM3TS.HTML
22. It's easy. Took me about ten minutes. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=98784

SX Basses
The starter pack SX's are not the same as the JD's.The last SX starter pack bass that i saw looked like it was made out of ply, while it was nicely finished,it just looked a lot cheaper made than the others that i have seen. JD has/had a website but i can't find it at the moment. The JD's that i have seen all had the vintage tint laquer on the neck too, while the starter pack SX's looked like something that was made for IKEA.
In that case I now have Jim Deacon gas!

SX Basses

They are made in he same factory but are available as a smaller range, as hb said. In my experience the best Sx's are the "Ltd" ones which I think Rondo are now calling "Pro". I don't believe Jim Deacon do those. Also be aware that the basses in the SX starter packs are not held in the same regard. There is always a chance that the Jim Deacon ones are the same as those. I couldn't tell you for sure though. EDIT: I defer to hb with regard to JD.
