1.
Those amps are kinda expensive.. And those SX Ursa guitars look cool. I've been looking at these ProBass things aswell. Paul H bought one and it sounded good as far as I could tell. Any thoughts on their Geddy Lee model? http://www.probass.co.uk/VMGEDDY.html
Yup, proud owner of an Aero2 which so far I am very happy with. The intonation seems slightly out above the 15th/16th frets. I never go that high up anyway but I will mention it to the ProBass guy. Other than that the build quality is good. The only thing I have noticed is a couple of scratchplate screws in at a funny angle. I have set the action up very low and a bit buzzy as I like it and I have to say it's possibly one of the most playable basses I have ever owned. I will do some proper sound samples at some point. I imagine the Geddy is very SX like and looks like a bargain to me. EDIT: Tried the intonation again and got it pretty spot on.
2. Soundclips!! I am recovering from man-flu and I couldn't find/be bothered to look for enough leads to monitor the recording. So apologies for sloppiness, length, content and rubbishness.
3. Got it! Ordered Sunday afternoon arrived this morning at 8.35am. First impressions are very good. Looks great and although I haven't taken a magnifying glass to it yet, build quality is certainly up there with my Aerodyne. In fact, it is a bit of an Aerodyne killer. The action is certainly lower, to my eyes it looks better due to the block inlays and it feels a little bit lighter too. However I sold the Aerodyne a few years ago so I can't do a direct comparison. As you would expect I feel it might be the electronics that let it down. It sounds a teeney weeney bit lifeless to me but that is just as likely to be the factory strings as anything else. I won't know for sure until I record some soundclips. Again, these are first impressions. Opinions are prone to change!
4. I am now expecting the box to contain an all original, 1959, mint condition anticlimax.
5. Good customer service so far from David who sent me a nice email thanking me for the order. Hopefully he will get over to this thread at some point. All going well it should be with me tomorrow. Rather annoyingly I am having it delivered to an alternative address because I thought I would be working tomorrow but it turns out I'm not! Watch this space.
6. It sounds like you just want a more traditional p tone. It shouldn't be too hard to pick up a US Fender pickup. I have found the Bass Parts Resource to be pretty good in the past http://www.basspartsresource.com/bass_pickupsfenderpbass.htm I am sure you could get something on ebay too. Just make sure whatever you get is Alnico and not ceramic.
7. Is it a long wait? Or a suspense generating machine?
8. Not yet but I will soon! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=88114
9. Just pulled the trigger on a white Aero. And now the waiting begins....
10. I think I am going to order one from the website today.
11. Just emailed the guy a link to this thread.
12. They might well be made in the same factory but they are not the same as SX. In fact I just found this thread over TB... http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...light=retrovibe The man behind the basses makes an appearance and it seems as though he has just gone for his personal preferences spec wise, which on the Aero2 is uncannily close to what I would choose. They are certainly not the cheapest option but I can't think of anyone else offering the spec of the Aero2 at this price point, if at all.
13. So no real reason to not get one then?
14. http://probass.co.uk/Home.html These look rather tasty, has anybody have any experience of them? I am sorely tempted by the white Aero2. Although the Vintage Modified with the S1 switching seems a complete bargain. Not sure about set necks though.
15. I would imagine a good Squier beats a bad Fender. But that can probably be said of any bass by any manufacturer. If I can slightly tangentalise* the thread... Does the the current Squier love only apply to the current range? I recently bought a 96 Affinity Strat for £76 and it is fairly awesome. It's got the strat tone in buckets. I am now tempted by a 01 Affinity P. I know the Affinity is down towards the bottom of the range but after my experience with the Strat I have no real concern about it being good value for money. In terms of logo love, I think the Squier label is more than respectable. To me it says "I like Fender, but I am streetwise enough to buy Squier!" *I made a word up!
16. Your sofa is disgusting. Your bass playing is awesome. You are fast becoming one of my favourite youtube bass players.
17. I like it in there! I haven't got much to contribute basswise, I have only been playing about 26 or 27 years. The problem with the rest of the forum when you're out of work and skint is that it feels like it's full of rich people buying and selling basses that I can only dream of. I think I need to go and find someone with less money than me and laugh at them. That will cheer me up!
18. I'm glad you used quotes around debates. 40 pages of "You're wrong, idiot." "No, you're wrong..." doesn't qualify as a debate. It only barely qualifies as a conversation. I too will try to rely on will power Clarky, and by putting the usual suspects on ignore. Again.
19. I saw them years and years ago at the old Robin in Brierly Hill and absolutely loved it! I see the potential for getting someone else to drive and being able to sleep it off at my folks place. I will begin texting arrangements immediately!
20. Dare I say it but this is one in favour of a relic job!
21. Inevitable Disappointment.
22. I just keep thinking of the fiesta red Squier.
23.
One of the nicest Sadowsky's Ive seen!
+1 That one and the PJ4 in a 57 stylee that has been passed around the forum have been my favourite Sadowsky's. Nice one.
24. He's top of my list Si but I am concerned he will be too far ensconced in the weird shortscale world to do a parts bass! My plan would be a jap p bass (mmmm, where to get that???) and get Paul to do the mods. Got to get one of those pesky job things first! But of course that is part of what got me thinking about Valenti alternatives. I am sure there would be a market for it. Mind you, I am usually wrong about these things.
