I guess it would depend on the current exchange rate. It is a shame about the headstock because there are some great models on Rondo right now. I haven't seen many turn up on ebay, but it's always worth a look.

A problem with new ones is the redesigned fugly headstock.

:Sigh: I now want WoT's rig. Bloody gas.

Lovely looking object. M'eh looking bass.

At last weeks rehearsal I noticed a significantly lower output from my D and G strings. I tweaked the pickup heights which helped a bit but I am planning on getting over it with a bucketful of compression. I use light strings and I am sure that a heavier gauge might help. Anyone care to share their experiences?

I have seen the Fusions for £450 on eBay. They look pretty good to me.
Is it, though? If you create a piece of music, spend weeks honing the ideas and communicating them to your bandmates, have a clear idea of how you'd like it performed and what enhancements you want the other musicians to bring, practice & refine it until it's right, and finally end up with some thing you love - then it's going to mean a little bit more to you than cranking out Brown Sugar for the 200th time down at the Stoat & Spigot. Most bassists in originals bands don't have a huge creative input (been in plenty of "other people's" bands!) and even less so in a covers situation. I have played covers but only alongside an originals band, and while I enjoyed it (mostly) and certainly got paid & laid far more than in any originals band, on reflection it was an empty experience that from my perspective had a negative impact on the "proper" band. If it was a choice between that & not playing at all, I really don't know. It just made me aware that I'm a creative musician, not a pub entertainer. J.
I can only speak for myself but I play bass, guitar, I program, I compose in all sorts of genres and when I am in an original band I have a HUGE creative input because that, for me, is the point. And I bet I'm not the only one either. Show of hands?
One of the main things I like about this forum is the diversity of those on it. There are all ages from teens to retirees, several different sexes, many musical tastes: jazz, punk, metal, indie, classical, gospel and many others. We have people who never play outside their bedroom, and those who play to large, packed houses, and everything in between. And we have those who play in tribute bands, covers bands, those who play mostly originals, those who play solo, and those who play in orchestras. Those who make a living from it, and those who would happily play for nothing. Lets celebrate the diversity of this happy crowd rather than trying to criticise or question peoples choices.
No.

I play bass because I am not good enough to play guitar.
...Maybe they've been playing covers for so long that they've forgotten what it's like to play music for fun instead of for money. They could do to join an originals band and be reminded of why they started playing instruments in the first place.
Playing covers is fun. Playing originals is fun. I haven't forgotten why I started playing music. It's just that now I am old and married I do it for a different reason.
Yeah we do that one in our cover band. It's by the Kings of Leon. People love it. :-D
I know that song! Therefore I reject it.
The answer is pretty apparent, even in this thread: Because it pays.
Because it pays and playing live is fun and seeing audiences dance is cool and because not all songs are crap, even if they are by other people and because I'm 40 and I don't want to be famous any more.

Everything I play is unique because I am so awesome.
....I know too that if it stopped tomorrow nothing would make me want to take my bass and play covers in pubs, nothing!....
Yeah, that's what I used to say. I am learning all sorts of crap covers for my new band. Stuff that I would never normally listen to but I am interested in two things... 1. Making a bit of cash 2. The audience having a good time.
The vast majority of people would rather have numbingly familiar than stimulating and new.
I keep trying to reply to this but I don't know where to start. I am quite familiar with any number of songs. Some of them I would even qualify as "favourites". Is that wrong? Should I only listen to new songs. Then what happens after I am familiar with those? I'm confused. Sounds like the sort of thing I would have said after an empty originals gig.

That's fairly close but if you want more detail... Imagine Bassworld as Cronus, the leader of the titans. Cronus/Bassworld, afraid of being usurped by his children did the only sensible thing and ate them. Unfortunately for him he missed one. The child named BassChat. And bugger me sideways if old Cronus/Bassworld wasn't right all along. BassChat bloody well usurped the hell out of Cronus/Bassworld. Then something happened between BassChat and his brothers. Probably drawing straws or some mystical chess game. Or possibly rock, paper scissors. Anyhoo, the result was that Hades was selected to reign over Hell/Finnbass. I think that clears it up once and for all.

It appears to be open to the public now. Think I will have a nose around.

This is going to be sooo cool when it's done. I can't wait and it's not even my bass! Will it be making it to a bass bash?

I quite fancy this but it's way too far in the future for me to be able to commit. -
Who was it who was going to buy me a present?
paul h replied to Mr. Foxen's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful

I am now trying to talk my lot into doing Deeper Underground.
