1. I am pretty sure that the stock pickups are ceramic so my suggestion is to swap them out for a matched set of alnico pickups. Or in terms of output it might be as simple as lowering the p pickup and raising the j.
2. If only it were that simple! Damn you Youtube!
3. I can't hear it but you and the bass look immensely cool which let's face it, it is half the battle!
4. I prefer Chris MIM Fender.
5. So happy that it turned out so well! There is a now a white bass porn thread ready and waiting for you!
6. My mate already played guitar.
7. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=109054 This would be my choice.
8. Foolproof.
9. He's bypassed his awesome control and wired straight into the jack for ultimate awesomness.
10. The Dood doesn't do 50%.

12. Bit late to he party and the site as been down every time clicked the link. However that won't stop me congratulating you on your awesomeness!
13. It's the red PJ for me too. I would love to see it with mint scratchplate. Mmmm.
14. I didn't mind the first EC song. I watched the show on iplayer and pretty much fast forwarded through it all. Performances that stand out for me on Later.... Richard Bona doing a solo bass piece. Went and bought a Bona CD only to find it full of songs with very little bass content. Duffy singing Rockferry. Seasick Steve.
15. So beautiful. I am literally moved to tears. Not really but that is simply stunning.
16. I came up with an analogy the last time this subject came. Shortly after OTPJ gave me a complete roasting only to go out and by a RW! Jeans. Do you wear faded, pre-distressed jeans? Are all your jeans dark, flawless and pressed with a nice crease? IMHO it's the same thing. It looks cool and it's fashionable. Nothing more to it. It's not immoral, dishonest, ridiculous, stupid or any other term that is going to be used in this thread. It's a matter of taste, totally subjective and fairly trivial. And FYI, I'm all for it. A good relic job looks cool, removes the first dink nerves, feels good to play and gives the vibe of a vintage instrument without the cost.
17. Actually, get a tobacco burst, light relic PM4.
18. Just buy it.
19. Looking good. I just threw all the wife's clothes into the street so I can get started on mine.
20. Closest I ever came to needing a back up was when the bass player from a "rival" band decided to detune my bass just as I went on stage. Luckily he detuned the back up! I actually think that is the only gig I have ever taken a back up to, so it worked as a decoy, but that's about it. Other than that, never taken one, never needed one.
21. I use a 150mm steel rule. I also have a 600mm one for checking overall level, a fret rocker and a fret levelling/dressing kit. All off ebay and all dirt cheap and perfectly fine.
22. What was the Lakland P Fugde? Was it a Duck Dunn or Bob Glaub. I quite fancy a Glaub myself.
23. Get Carter. Roy Budd ftw. 28 Days Later was cool too.
24. I think there is a world of difference between a regular, tight gigging band learning a new song and a new band finding their feet. If I am in a band that is out there playing and with some experienced members then I would pretty much agree with what has been said. Learn at home, polish at rehearsal, play at next gig. However my new band has various degrees of experience and as of yet we haven't played a gig together. Therefore we are taking slightly longer to get the songs to a good standard. It's not really about the songs but more about the band gelling together. Once you get to a point where you can play off each other and start spotting those little cues that are so necessary things will be easier and quicker. Try picking one song and just work on it over and over again during a rehearsal. It might get a bit monotonous but it should get you to nail at least one song a week and get you playing together better. EDIT: As a side note, we have free rehearsal space so it's more forgiveable for us to learn things together. Besides, it worked a treat for Let's Groove Tonight last time!
25.
She sounds like a proper ray of sunshine.
In fact that bit has just made me explain to the wife that if she ever asks me to stop playing bass, or gigging (once I've started again!) then that's us finished. She in fact agreed. I am not advocating that for you, or indeed judging you and your situation. I would be perfectly happy selling the Ritter, buying a CV P bass and pocketing the rest of the cash. There are a few basses that I regret selling but I have also sold many "bass for life" ones too, only for them to be equalled or surpassed by the next one.
