1. So I am the only potential customer for such an enterprise? I imagine that would be expensive then!
2. I often find myself planning my dream bass with no real intention, or funding, to make it happen. It always leaves me wondering why I don't know of any notable parts builders/assemblers in the Valenti vain over here. For example all I would really want is a passive p/j with the j in the 70's position and a zero fret. It seems overkill to go for full custom for such a basic spec. Is it a prohibitive cost thing? I know Shuker stock can be had for a bargain so maybe it's not really that viable. Who knows? Do you?
3. Ahhh, but you do have something in Stourbridge in September. I'm from West Bromwich originally and even lived on the Stourbridge Road for a while. So possible multiple birds with single stone scenario!
4. Even though I have no money I actually do want this. Watching it and planning a bid.
5. After today...for god's sake delete it!
6. That is severely gas inducing. I have loved every zero fret bass I have tried, including a pm4. Yummy.
7. My wife wants to take me to Ronnie Scott's for my 40th this year. I think I might be submitting a Dressed to Kill gig as an alternative.
8. Tony Franklin fretted. WoT had the fretless version for a very brief time I believe.
9. You're lucky. last time my wife asked about "a box with knobs on"....it was the cooker.
10. I had a Kingston with one humbucker, so possibly the same model. The single most playable bass I have ever played. I just didn't get on with the tone and sold it when I needed some cash. I got mine for around £180 off ebay but that was a good 5 or 6 years ago.
11. You should be able to get an Epiphone EB-0 for around that or maybe a tenner more. They are short scale meaning they are closer in size to a guitar but it's a good place to start. If you are into the Stranglers some kind Fender Precision copy would be suitable. There are plenty to be had for not a lot of money on Ebay but be aware that they may not be the most playable instruments to learn on. Best if you know someone who can do a set up of some kind to make things easier.
12. Terrible. With or without them!
13. Oh crap. That is making it just too hard to resist temptation!
14. I would recommend trying these... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELECTRIC-BASS-GUITAR...#ht_4642wt_1058 I have used the roundwounds and they are great strings for the money. I haven't actually used the flats but they are a cheap way to experiment.
15. Very smooth on the fingers Fudge, not for everybody. Not sure I would go for them with your kind of playing/set list.
16. I think they look great, especially the p/j. Personally I would love to see a Precision styled p/j as these seem to be in relatively short supply.
17. Good to hear that these can be versatile too then. These are rapidly climbing my Gas list!
18. Steve Clayton 1mm Acetal rounded triangle for me! I like to play fingerstyle, slap and with a pick just to keep things varied.
19. Oh yes! Welcome to the darkside!!!!
20. I fancy a P/J with the J in the 70's position but I have don't think they exist.
21. They must be good, I lasted over two minutes!
22.
One of the other ideas I toyed with, and probably the best one, was the no screws look. Seen here in a mock up. If this was as easy as getting a clear pickguard I may have gone this way.
That looks rather sexy. Any thoughts on how to achieve this? Maybe grub screws and magnets. Mmmm. I am going to steal this idea, come up with a cost effective way of achieving it and make a fortune! Muuuhhahhahhahaha.
23. I'm starting to get p-bass gas again. Maybe there is hope for me after all!
24. No, I don't think it will go that far. I think there will always be call for shiny new things. The point is that the whole relic issue is not really a big deal, although some people do seem to get a bit heated about it. And it's not exclusive to basses and guitars either. I like beaten up jeans and if I was in the minority then the shops wouldn't be full of them. Of course the same issues apply to all...if it's done well it looks good, if not, not! I just think if that somebody is giving us relic fans a hard time while wearing a pair of distressed jeans, they need to think twice!
25. Jeans!!! I keep meaning to ask the shiny fans, what kind of jeans do you all wear? I assume you wear plain, dark denim ones. Or do you wear faded or distressed ones?
