1. The ESP's do it for me. Lovely.
2. I would have preferred the four buttons to be a simple on/off for each coil.
3. I need to see a 4 string in a different colour but I think I like it!
4. I like some. I don't like others. Controversial eh?
5. I think image is extremely important. In fact I think you would be hard pressed to find a bass player who plays a bass that they hate the look of. No matter how good it plays. Maybe a "Do you think your bass is ugly?" poll is required?
6. I think the most obvious thing we learn from these threads is that the relic fans are quite laid back and easy going while the shiny fans insist on telling us we are wrong and uncool. We are all entitled to our opinions, the difference is that I have not called any of the shiny fans uncool, dishonest, lazy or accused them of trying too hard. Just relax guys. They are just basses. And if some people like them to look battered...so what?
7. A perfect end to the perfect thread.
8. I'm quite clearly going to hell. A hell where I will have to practice for minutes on end while continually polishing my maple cap.
9.
Quite true and a very well put point - I suppose the difference in a lot of ways is that I do take music very seriously, as it's my living Thanks for the very well reasoned explanation, btw.
I have no major desire to make music my main source of income so I guess I have the luxury of having a more relaxed attitude. But I know and have known plenty of people who have made this malarkey their living. And there are a number of Bravewood owning, belt sander wielding, fun having, not taking it too seriously types included in that bunch. But also remember, it's your talent that is making you a living. Not how shiny your gear is.
10. It's all good OTPJ. The reasoning is...it looks cool. End of. It's only a bass. It's only music. It isn't a reflection on my warped and crooked personality. It doesn't make me a bad person. I don't like to take all this too seriously. Or I might start making serious sounding music, and that would never do!
11. But that's because you are dishonest, lazy and live in a fantasy world.
12.
So it's all about image for you then, Paul? Not honesty, hard work or reality?
After getting half way through a huge reply I decided to not even bother. Just chillax! You don't catch us relicing fans giving you lot a hard time do you???
13. I respect your collective rights to prefer new and shiny. I don't like new and shiny. I also don't think having a cool story makes the slightest bit of difference how the thing looks hanging around your neck. Which, as we all know, is the single most important thing.
14.
Come on people see sense!
No. Old, battered stuff looks cool.
15. Go for it. Then you won't go through the agony of buffing out the wee scratches only to scratch it again almost immediately! Quick devil's advocate question. Those of you against relicing, can you afford the real thing? I am never going to be able to afford vintage coolness so if I want to fake it I will!
16. They are all tiny and they are in his pocket.
17. Well I have only had a trem for a week so I thought I better have a go at using it! And I have just realised that you spotted it was a Beckalike! I know the name of the track helped but I am still chuffed you recognised the influence.
18. Pretty much as long as you don't push it too far. I'm quite into Jeff Beck at the moment. Never really listened to him before but I am really enjoying his "relaxed" approach to pitch! Of course he has scored massive brownie points with me by doing Lilac Wine on his latest album!
19.
Nice playing. I think it might benefit from some nice new pups, though, but then what cheaper squier wouldn't? Not a bad shout for £60.
Thanks. I think I would probably go for a couple of wiring mods first to see what happens, but new pickups would definitely be an improvement.
20. I just did this... With some of this that I got from Homebase! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rust-Oleum-AE01600...557&sr=1-21 Went on well and the gloss finish looks quite cool. I didn't spend any real time on it, with regards to preparation or painting but as an experiment I think it's ok.
21. Do you want to hear my £60 Squier Strat? Just a quick noodle....don't judge me!
22. Possibly the longest wait between bumps? The tele and the 12 string are still here, so I thought I would try to shift'em again! £40 each. Collection preferred. I have got a couple of boxes available so I could post, but as always I prefer the buyer to have a noodle first. Neither of these guitars are perfect but that's reflected in the price. If you are after something to have fun with, and don't mind tapping down the odd high fret then you could do a lot worse! Hemel Hempstead for collection. Cheers. Paul.
23. Eko unless I am mistaken. I had one of these many years ago which I bought from Brandoni. I was never 100% sure of the manufacturer but I am sure someone will be here soon to help!
24. That's good enough for me! I'm off down Halfords!
25. Coincidentally, I just bought a Squier Strat off that seller and after I googled the serial number, I can tell you he got both in an auction at Tennants for £60. My Strat was missing the trem arm and the seller managed to find one and threw it in for nowt. So perfectly happy there. Downside is that the guitar smells like fags...so this bass might too.
