1. Think it was done on 'Arrys request, and the bass was delayed as getting the licence from West Ham took a very long time, as those license are hard to get, and expensive and slow to deal with as Footie clubs are pretty bad for that stuff. The logo is painted on and finished over, not a sticker, I "believe"? (Someone clarify? Could be wrong on that!)
 2.
There are plenty of things I deem overpriced. Products that don't offer good bang for the buck$. Where I can buy a better quality, cheaper alternative if I choose to. Kettle Chips are a prime contender. I bang on to my mates about Kettle Chips all the time. On and on. And you know what? Not once have they said: "Thanks Skol. Thanks for your insight. I'm now going to change my choice of crisps based on your opinion." Not once. They keep on buying those Kettle Chips. It's as though they value their own opinions more highly than mine. The fools. And so it will always be. Ad infinitum. PS: any unwanted rice pudding? Send it my way. One man's bowl of milky maggots is another's homely pudding.
OT, but what's an alternative? Keen as I love Kettle Chips haha!
 3.
It's here! 1st impression is how the hell do they make something like this for the money! it even came with a cheap gig bag, 3 picks, strap, lead and an extra set of (4 ) strings. Fit and finish are great, as stated above I'm not really a fan of sunburst but it's done well and the wood appears to be one piece rather then the usual 2 or 3 bits, I'll double check that though. Weight is just over 10lbs which is a bit on the weighty side for me but not terribly heavy for a 5er. Quickly measured the neck pocket and it's 70mm thereabouts I think MM/OLP is 68mm? so neck swapping and Status necks should work but possibly with a tiny gap, I'll check this properly when I get time. Obviously the body and scratchplate would need modifying the take the pin wheel truss rod adjuster on a MM/OLP neck. Talking of necks the 505 one plays very well, intonation is out at the moment but the action is set nice and low and the frets seem well finished with no sharp edges. I don't like the idea of the t-bar string retainer and the way the string are routed to the tuners, it all looks a bit awkward. So to sound, tuned it up plugged it in and E-G sound nice and bright with some punch but the B string is so dead I actually thought there was something wrong with the pup but tapping the pole pieces confirms the pup is working fine it must just be a rubbish B string, I'll change the strings if I can find a five string set in the 'bass bits box' under the bed and see if that helps. Stock electronics are a tad odd as it seems to have two tone controls and one volume?? my passive OLP has two volumes (one for each coil) and a single tone which makes far more sense to me. Feel free to ask questions and I'll try to answer them as best as I can.
Ooh! Shiny This is making me seriously consider taking a punt on a 4 string fretless one. I'd love a fretless to mess with, and as much as I'd like one of the Squier P's, this seems like a nice find! How's the general construction, fit, and finish? Hardwear seem decent enough?
 4.
Oops, my finger slipped... Delivery some time next week. I should probably buy a mute, as well. Any recommendations?
The Dennis Wick ones are great, well designed and not too expensive. My main B-trom mute has been all around the world and never had a problem!
 5. Found this while browsing, thought it may be off interest? http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Ashdown-VS-212-200-Bass-Amp-Cabinet-Nearly-New/PV3
 6.
I'm seriously considering a Jake, but the amount of custom options is threatening to make my head explode. Mind, I love Adrian's voice. It's so soothing.
You're tempting me so damn hard...
 7. Saw them twice in Glasgow, hugely enjoyed it and got to have a very quick 2 minute chat with Scott Gorham. I asked him about the whole BSR/TS thing, and he said that it didn't feel right using the name, and that it was a way of paying homage without besmirching the name. Incredibly nice guy, and made comment about my rock faces in the front row with my friend for both shows haha! The TL songs felt like the most authentic covers ever, but still like covers non the less, if that makes sense. Great band and show though, I will say the new album does sound like Jailbreak... On another note, The Amorettes are an awesome Scots band and Europe were F*****g awesome!
 8.
yup. heard a few people who went to get pickups changed and they've replaced the likes of £100 pickups with £40 ones etc. I use this guy : https://m.facebook.com/wjsguitars
No experience with Jimmy Moon, but Billy "Wunjo" did some pretty major (albeit nothing bass destroying, not quite!) emergency repair work on my 6 string ( body damage and splits all along the grain) and repaired it in 4 days and kept me in the loop the whole time. Also only charge me £50 when I was quoted £150 at two other places in Glasgow. Nice guy, and his work shop is 10-15 minutes of me so he's my go to. Not seem much of his non acrylic luthier work though.
 9. Maybe an appreciation thread would be a better alternative, in the "Gear Porn" section. Been looking at these basses for a couple weeks and the 6 string "frog" models really have me interested. Would love to try one. If they do custom orders than colour me intrigued.
 10. I've got one I use for travelling. The mouthpiece is lame, so I use my regular Rath one, but they are actually not bad at all! A bit of a pain to maintain, but do it right and you barely need to look after them. Really lightweight for younger ones. The Alto ones make great learner horns. I've an Alto one as well as a tenor as it's by far the cheapest way for me to delve into the Alto trombone world. That said I'd say anything is light compared to my normal horn which is a double valve Bass trombone hah!
 11.
It was as much about proving the concept as experimenting with sound
Was just throwing out more wicked combinations you may wish to try! It gets very addictive, and expensive fast haha!
 12. Never heard one used on bass, but for guitar they can actually sound pretty good if you really play with the software. The Amp sims are pretty good actually too, but the cab sims are mediocre. Check out the first couple Cloudkicker albums, all the stuff was done through a V-Amp. Sounds awesome! Worth it at £69!
 13. Love it! I do this all the time. Though usually have grit on the "clean" signal as then the two tones meld together better. Also find a thicker/higher gain tone (some crunchy fuzzes work for this. EQ's Muff or a Mastotron I found sound the best!) for the octave tone to stop it sounding to "precise". I've experimented with, and like having clean signal and an octave up and one tone for some really huge roaring tone haha!
 14. Lovely! Would love some more info on the signal chains. How much gain does the TB12 have on tap? I'm a big ribbon mic fan, and generally like pushing gain on mics for a tiny bit more response anyway.
 15.
£600 and it's just sporting USB connectivity? Why no firewire (or Thunderbolt)?
More universal for a single connector. USB 3and USB C are making a good move onto the market. I'm a huge, huge Thunderbolt fan (makes the video work I do so, so, so much easier!) Apple don't ship any Firewire products anymore. They're moving entirely to Thunderbolt (and maybe USB 3? They pushed USB 2 so it's not impossible.) I quite like the B-social, I think the "social" part of the name is a bit... forced, but I like it. It's not a unique concept and I think it's not for everyone, but for someone who wants what it does, nothing else really satisfies those needs. This is very similar in concept (but done in a Bass orientated and Ashdown-ified way) to the New Line 6 Amplifi (the TT comes to mind, but the line as a whole) and the Yamaha THR units, which for £150-£250 (5/10, model etc) are fantastic amps. I'm actually recording all my Guitar tracks for a demo album with a two THR units and, using one as a DI for bass to re-amp/software model. If these sell at closer to £400, I can see these selling for the right people just fine. It's still a solid amount of money though, and it's role/need isn't great enough for me to lay down 600, when that's a new bass or amp or cab, or a months rent... I like it, but the price means I know I won't be getting one as even if it does do what it does better than anything else out there. I can make do with rattling headphones to practise in my apartment... (He says now. Can see myself caving and buying the B-social in 18 month haha!) That or my THR actually does kick out a solid amount of low end. Wouldn't ever be able to jam with someone unless they were an acoustic player. That's something I'd really like to try, could be very, very cool! Edit: Also, with all amp tones, horses for courses. I always seem drawn to Ashdown but never found an Ashdown tone/rig I'm 100% happy with. Been doing a lot of gigs with a friends ABM ring and it does down the meaning of grunt and thunder though! With a good grindy distortion been pretty chuffed with the tones The Evo IV ABMs are something I really want to try. I do wish the drive knobs went a couple notches higher though. But I'm a drive fiend, so what do I know?!
 16. Looks like Yamaha are discontinuing all the RBX basses, seems odd and a shame as for me, I've always held them up as the best value starter basses out there. Hope they're just updating the line...
 17. Love it! You're also far too talented a bass player. Stop it. You're making me look bad haha! Glad you're happy with her!
 18.
I must say, I absolutely hated the Ashdown J-Lo and EBS Billy Sheehan pedals. Each to their own!
Clearly not a Pearce fan haha! May want to skip the new Suncoast bass preamp then I have a love hate relation ship with both. That said My J-Lo is dying after 200+ odd gigs. Wish I had a chance to borrow an EBS Sheehan for longer so I could use my J-Lo together with it. I'm nit a fan of how it just distortions one range. I want more drive! Best Drive tones on bass I've had have just been through a Marshall JCM haha!
 19.
It definitely would look better with a tinted fretboard and no West Ham logo. I wonder if there's any difference between the Seymour Duncan SPB-1 and the Steve Harris pickup...
SPB-1 is more "classic" voice but hotter with a firmer mid range, rounded off/tighter bass and more clank. Also I think notably hotter to compensate for his light attack. Never got why everyone went straight to the SPB-3 for Harris tones, the SPB-1 is more 'Arry!
 20.
I'd be interested to try one, I have a Chapman guitar and it's the worst guitar I've ever owned but quite a long shot.
Not to de-rail (feel free to answer by PM) but been debating getting one, so what makes you say that? Just curious! Not trying to start anything. I like the idea behind the MLB but the radius and controls put me right off. Chapman seem very busy behind the scenes which seems to be affecting the way things are run a little. On paper I like the "community design" idea, but in practise it feels like I've missed out on the chance to get what I want due to other people haha!
 21. Or you could go lower, and have it in Drop C/C standard with a Low G on the bottom, (like Strapping Young Lad ) I use that tuning in Drop C/ C standard stuff a lot for some extra thunder!
 22.
but if I told you about it we’d have to convert you all to trombonists. We did get some nice previews we can share though.
What about those of us who already are Trombonists? Sounds like a great trip, very good read, thanks for this!
 23. The Behringher BSY-600 is a SYB clone with better tracking (IME. Do some "Organic Wobble" research and you'll see it's pretty highly reccomended, especially for the price!), and in many circles is considered better. Just the construction is pretty weak. If you're interested in them they are pretty good and worth looking into since they don't cost a whole lot (£30-40 new). I combo one with the Digitech BSW, got both for less than £70 incl delivery which is neat! Will never be a proper synth though, but it's own cool sound!
