Well, judging by the amount of hum they had, they're probably not hum canceling Or they were, and didn't do a very good job.

Bought a set of Fender CS60 pickups (I thought), installed them and played with those pickups for a long time, no prob at all. A year or two ago, one of the pickups gave out so I went to my fav bass shop to have it repaired (turned out to be a loose wire). and the guy asked me: "What pickups are those?" So I said: "Fender Custom Shop, why?" So he shook his head and said: "Well, these are not Custom Shops for sure. They're not even Fender pickups. Went to a luthier for a refret: he also had no idea. Thought they were cheap. Oh cool! I didn't know them. But what would be the difference between these and the somewhat cheaper ánd better available Antiquity pickups? I thought those were wound to the specs Seymour rewound Jaco's pickups...

However, I think the bass can do a lot better. There's too much hum when using only the bridge pickup and I miss depth and low end in my sound. Now as a Jaco fan (as one is supposed to be) I have that sound in my head, but with a little bit more low end. [/quote] This is only partly true. Especially the early Marley stuff (and when he was still "in" the Wailers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer) isn't like that. It's only from the solo albums (mostly from Natty Dread onwards) that a lot of "white" guys were hired to make the albums sound more rocky and fit for the American and European market. But check out the early versions of Stir it Up and One Love (which are actually more ska-oriented songs) and you'll here a lot of Skatalites in there. As a matter of fact, most of the old Wailers stuff is accompanied by the Skatalites.
