1. I enjoyed that album but I think their first one was way, way more interesting. With practically every track of HDWGSD I thought "I've already heard this" unfortunately. Good band though. For me, best of 2017 is probably a list... Sorry, can't help it. Thundercat - Drunk QOTSA - Villains Rico & Sticks - IZM (Dutch hiphop) Death From Above 1979 - Outrage! Is Now Steven Wilson - To The Bone And I really enjoyed the new Morbid Angel album, Kingdoms Disdained.
2. I have this at home to review for a Dutch bass magazine. Has some flaws in the details (finish etc) but otherwise a pretty decent bass...
3. It'll be a pleasure meeting you again Steve
4. I really like seeing "novice" players at the show. I think it's actually pretty annoying to see and hear fast showy players all day. I don't wanna hear a gazillion notes on a fancy bass all day. I want to hear how a bass sounds if you play bass on it.
5. That's gorgeous! Original? I'd say...late 66?
6. Early bird tickets on sale, and the first artist has been announced: Guy Pratt!
7. I remember news about artists and stuff being earlier last time, but alright, I'm looking forward to it. Missed it this year but I booked my Eurostar ticket vor next March today. Gonna be there with Eich again, together with Marleaux. I think De Gier is also gonna be there again, probably with his new Lowlander model. I'm still hoping for Thomas Stenback to be there...
8.
This one moved from Hoxton Street to my place just yesterday
Quoted for new page. That is absolutely gorgeous. Amazing. I once played a '55 so I can imagine how it sounds. Fantastic.

10. There is a great video by Keith Carlock about playing shuffle, and he has a pretty decent Purdie shuffle as well as a Porcaro shuffle... https://www.youtube....h?v=ex2YG_-3Ov0 Don't know how to embed this
11. I don't bring my vintage bass to sketchy shows. But I do bring my vintage P. Don't know why.
12. Ok I have two stories: -I once switched basses with Jamiroquai's Paul Turner for a brief moment: he was doing a promo gig for Stenback Basses at Paul's Bass Matters in Nijmegen and I knew he has a white '66 Jazz (and so do I), so I brought it along. I was having a chat with Paul and the subject of that '66 Jazz came up. So he asked: "Did you bring yours?" I said "yes, did you bring yours?", which he had. So we played each other's bass and talked about the typical characteristics of that year. Later I found out his bass and mine are from the same month. It's the only story I have proof of. To the left is my bass, right is Paul's: -Marcus Miller played my Blade bass. He gave a masterclass at the conservatory where I was studying at the time. Paul Sips of Bass Matters (this is pure coincidence) came running up to me, asking "do you have your bass with you and is it a Jazz Bass?" Marcus' bass didn't make it through customs in time so he had to borrow one. I gave mine and eventually he didn't use it on stage because someone else had a Fender and he didn't know Blade so chose the Fender. I walked up to him afterwards asking about it, and if he still wanted to play it. He gave an interview to a Dutch bass magazine after the masterclass and used my bass to play all examples. And he signed it. And then I put epoxy over it very badly. But the signature is still there.
13. I got this gorgeous 2005 CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz a while back and I LOVE the playability, the neck and so on. But I think the sound could use a little more growl. It feels a bit like my old Celinder so I'm looking for a bit more punch/output/and so forth. So I might be getting a pair of Aguilar 70's pickups, or Aero, or something like that for it. But when I tried to check out the wiring (which was odd anway) I found that the pickups seem to have an extra wire attached to them. I'm used to Jazz pickups with two wires (white and black) but these have an extra one which is soldered to a copper plate in the control cavity. Do I have to find pickups that have that extra wire? 14.
I'm at 4, currently.
Still at 4 but a little bit different.
15. So I guess this is the "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" for Stax fans? Cool. I want it. EDIT: Alright. I just ordered it.

Jazz
Very handsome
I know, right? The neck is amazing and the sound is great. The neck feels exactly like the Celinder Skarbee Bass I once owned.

Just added Jazz number four:
18. Soooo I have this amazing Blade: And I replaced the pickups with Nordstrand NJ4's and the preamp with an Aguilar OBP-1 preamp (with boost only) and it sounds great, has this really nice Marcus Miller kinda vibe (partly because of the 70's pickup placing). The only thing is: this bass has so. much. treble. I haven't touched the treble pot because everything I add is waaaaay too much. It might be because of the particularly light ash body but this is the brightest bass I've ever played. I want to replace the pickups to tame the brightness a bit, but don't know which to choose. I want to match well with the preamp and have a considerable amount of *oomph* but less bright than the NJ4's. Not that they're bright, but still I want 'em less.
19. Next week at a death metal festival here in Holland: Carcass (was supposed to be Morbid Angel but they cancelled due to passport problems), Macabre, Krisiun, Marduk, Godflesh... Aaaaaand then in November: Fink, Bonobo, Queens of the Stone Age, and I got a ticket for Steven Wilson in March.
20. Looks like an amazingly versatile set of basses! You might wanna look into the new Justin Meldal-Johnsen signature Mustang...
21. I've seen Bona many times, first time in 2002, around the time of his first solo album. I love his playing and composing, but the last few years I've skipped some of his concerts and haven't even kept up with his most recent albums. TBH, I think he's repeating himself a bit too much lately... His solos have become predictive and especially when he plays with his own band his shows tend to get a bit theatrical and uninspired. The best show I've seen him do was at North Sea Jazz a few years ago, when he did an impro set with Bobby McFerrin and Cyro Baptista. He did some of his well-known licks (he always plays a bit of Dina Lam and Mike Stern's Still There) but it was amazing to see those three guys just having fun improvising. Haven't seen his Cuban project yet, it's supposed to be very good.
