well...im running 4 x 10 and 1 x 15 with the PF-500 portaflex and im not too happy with the results. Plenty loud bot not much punch in the band mix, guitarist using mesa rectifier and drummer mic'd up to his own PA. I struggle to cut through but i think the problem is low quality cabs ( ashdown and bullfrog(?)) Anyhow i think the answer is to look at Bareface cabs, specifically the super twin 12. Ive read some pretty amazing reviews of their stuff, so it might be worth investigating?

well i use the VT2 eq with an ampeg PF -500 into a 1 x 15 & 4 x 10 and it makes a hell of a difference to the sound IMO. Much more valvey warmth than straight into the ampeg, plus a great option to dig in to the overdrive with the "red" channel. I would never sell mine (unless i got an ampeg VR of course!)

I ended up forming a band myself to play the style i wanted and found the people I liked rather than the other way round. Dont whatever you do just stay in a band cos you're worried about not being in one - you'll just stay unhappy! Something is always waiting round the corner

i think the SJB's come with some instructions and a wiring diagram? I got the Seymour duncan P bass Quarter pounder pups and they came with fitting instructions and a simple wiring diagram that was easy to follow. I soldered em in 5 minutes, still working!

markbass compressore is awesome, but might be too "transparent" for your needs!

Eeeeek! Having drunk too much wine with my Debit card within too easy reach, Ive just splashed out £60 squid on some SPB-3 P bass Pups for my 83 JV P Bass. Ive always thought the stock fenders sounded pis*y and harsh to my (one) ear and didnt cut it in the mix with the band. Anyone tried these suckers out? Lots of good reviews out there of course but nice to hear it from gigging musos rather than bedroom twiddlers...

thanks guys, lots of great advice! I see the memory boys at £75 new in the states and aboiut £94 here so thats a start. The akai looks awesome and there some on ebay now. theres a line 6 echo park on there for £70, so thats in budget....lots to think about!

Anyone got one/heard of one/recommend one? Love delay but want to "tap tempo" in with the drummer rather than set some arbitary dely time with the Knobs! Budget IS a consideration... £70 ish? thanks guys
