Same for me with Aerodyne, I have a Yamaha BB PJ, never use the J pickup, just because I'm me and how my brain does or doesn't work, I might de solder it take it out and just leave the cover in place so it looks presentable. Oh and de solder the tone pot while I'm there..
-
Oh yes, whenever needed sir! I shall happily oblidge!

I've never gotten on with Jazz Basses either, sound, shape, neck width, eurgh!
-
Yep, that suits my purposes My next build will have a the pickup wired direct to the output jack.

Don't like active basses, humbuckers/soapbars or a hi fi sound. Any bass that is overly complicated, for reference I have disconnected the tone pot on my P bass because I don't use it.

Who/What started you on your journey and why?
Rodders replied to snorkie635's topic in General Discussion
So originally I wanted to play guitar, left handed, but for a couple of reasons (large hands, neurological disability causing issues with my right hand), I ended up playing bass, right handed. This was down to my Dad and he has supported me with my music ever since. Obviously once I got hold of the bass and managed to get a sound out of it, my earliest influences, were my Uncle's cover band playing classic rock, Jack Bruce and John Entwistle being the bass players that first inspired me. -
I don't know of any in the UK but my guess would be custom order from Kalium Strings or Garry Goodman in the US.
-
Had great success with GHS and La Bella playing Classic Rock on a P bass, all down to how you EQ them in my experience.
-
I've tried a few different brands (Roto, Dunlop, Bass Centre, Status, GHS, La Bella) settled on GHS and La Bella, both I find really versatile depending how you EQ them (on a P bass) I use standard gauge GHS and really enjoy the La Bella medium gauge which is 109-49. I play all styles using them and love the feel of medium gauge La Bella.

I've debated wearing colourful blazers/jackets in my new covers band a la Entwistle but I'm yet to take the plunge..

I've had one of these for a few years, great amp, very simple, only time it has given me any trouble is when it got quite hot in a pub (could also have been operator error clumsiness). Other than that flawless.

Dunlop Pick Holders, spring loaded, about £3.50. I stick them to the back of the headstock, takes about 3-5 depending on the gauge you use.

Started with Roto RS66 on my first bass, chewed up the frets and didn't really get on with the feel of them. My first proper bass was a Warwick and my Dad insisted it had to have Warwick black label strings. I used NPS rounds for a long time, whilst still not really enjoying the sound on a fretted bass, I tried RS77's and Chromes but didn't get on with them. One day I got hold of a cheap 90's Squier P bass put some Status flats on it and loved it, since then I've not used rounds on a fretted bass, I now use La Bella or GHS flats on fretted and NPS rounds on fretless.

A case of just because you can, doesn't mean you should?

Thanks very much gents for your replies, the Platinum Pro EQ is a big chunk of money to spend but it looks as if it does everything I need and more, I could possibly dispense with my pedalboard.. Do the knobs/dials press in so that they don't move once set? Couldn't be sure from the photos but its really cool if that is the case.

Bought a HB fretless violin bass, thought it would be cool and get me a DB ish sound, apart from picking up round the house and playing a couple of Buble songs, never really used it and it just sits there covered in dust, doesn't really improve the sound when plugged in, maybe a set of Pyramid Golds would improve things..

I use a Thumpinator, have done for a couple of years but looking at an adjustable one as I'm still having to roll off the bass on the amp (4 string P Bass with flats), to be clear in a mix. Hoping the Fishman Platinum Stage Pro will solve that and also give me some better EQ adjustment.
-
Anyone used this? I'm looking for an all in one solution that isn't too complex (for me anyway). It has an adjustable HPF that appeals to me and I can also DI out of it and select and boost the mid frequencies that I want. So seems to fit the bill. I've no need for drive or built in compressor. Keen to hear any experience of using this live, in pubs/clubs/at festivals etc. Thanks All.

Thanks Paul, I've pinged Andertons a message to ask if they can source an EWS BMC2 as the original seems to be discontinued.
-
Thanks Martin, could be just the ticket, got my eye on one of their adjustable HPF's too!

Does anyone use the JHS Haunting Mids on their board? Looking at possibly using this for fretless and in general to help in the mix. Any thoughts, experience and alternatives welcome. Cheers!

The only thing I would add to this (apologies if it has already been mentioned) is find a way of raising whatever combo or head and cab you go for off of the floor/point it at your ears whether that be with a stand, leaning it back somehow, a milk crate whatever. It may help keep the wattage, overall volume and cost down.

I have a 760FM set on my main bass, not noticed any issues, they were lightly used when I got them from a fellow forum member here but I've noticed any issues with this set or sets I've used in the past.
