  1. I practice maybe an hour or two per week, outside of weekly band rehearsal. I'm a perfectionist so I could always play better but I'm competent enough to hold a band together and help make it sound good when it matters. 6 hours a day everyday, I'm sure I could be technically brilliant etc but I would likely start hating the thing that brings the most happiness in my life..
  2. I have a Rock n Roller R2RT, I've been using it for a few years, very sturdy, handles a lot of weight for its size and folds down quite small. They gone up in price recently but as others have said buy cheap, buy twice, get what you pay for etc. https://rocknrollercarts.co.uk/products/rocknroller®-multi-cart®-r2rt-micro
  3. Percy Jones (Brand X, Brian Eno, Tunnels) John Giblin Jeroen Paul Thesseling Glen Hughes Geezer Jack Bruce John Entwistle Phil Lynott Colin Moulding (XTC) Herbie Flowers (how could I forget him?) Norman WR Gotten into John Pattitucci recently..
  4. I put a long scale set of these on a fretless P, its a cool sound, I was worried about the feel of them, if they were going to be too floppy, but work fine for me. Not gigged yet but I'll report back if I do!
  5. I hardly play my Corvette Standard now but I remember the part the rested on my leg (played sat down a lot) took on a blue colour from my jeans, kinda liked it and made it mine, each to their own as they say.
  6. More likely TI's then, unless they are old rotos.
  7. Look like Roto 77's to me, just to throw something different out there. Are they coloured ball ends or brass?
  8. Fortunately my band mates are always happy to help me, having had a hernia fixed this year, 3 lumbar spine discs with issues, plus a neurological disability that affects my balance and mobility, saying I have to take it easy nowadays is an understatement. As a young man (early 30's) invariably describribed as "Hench" or "A Unit", this is frustrating but necessary to continue doing what I love..
  9. Down in the Tube Station at Midnight - The Jam, mainly the speed.
  10. Same for me with Aerodyne, I have a Yamaha BB PJ, never use the J pickup, just because I'm me and how my brain does or doesn't work, I might de solder it take it out and just leave the cover in place so it looks presentable. Oh and de solder the tone pot while I'm there..
  11. Oh yes, whenever needed sir! I shall happily oblidge!
  12. I've never gotten on with Jazz Basses either, sound, shape, neck width, eurgh!
  13. Yep, that suits my purposes My next build will have a the pickup wired direct to the output jack.
  14. Don't like active basses, humbuckers/soapbars or a hi fi sound. Any bass that is overly complicated, for reference I have disconnected the tone pot on my P bass because I don't use it.
  15. So originally I wanted to play guitar, left handed, but for a couple of reasons (large hands, neurological disability causing issues with my right hand), I ended up playing bass, right handed. This was down to my Dad and he has supported me with my music ever since. Obviously once I got hold of the bass and managed to get a sound out of it, my earliest influences, were my Uncle's cover band playing classic rock, Jack Bruce and John Entwistle being the bass players that first inspired me.
  16. I don't know of any in the UK but my guess would be custom order from Kalium Strings or Garry Goodman in the US.
  17. Had great success with GHS and La Bella playing Classic Rock on a P bass, all down to how you EQ them in my experience.
  18. I've tried a few different brands (Roto, Dunlop, Bass Centre, Status, GHS, La Bella) settled on GHS and La Bella, both I find really versatile depending how you EQ them (on a P bass) I use standard gauge GHS and really enjoy the La Bella medium gauge which is 109-49. I play all styles using them and love the feel of medium gauge La Bella.
  19. I've debated wearing colourful blazers/jackets in my new covers band a la Entwistle but I'm yet to take the plunge..
  20. I've had one of these for a few years, great amp, very simple, only time it has given me any trouble is when it got quite hot in a pub (could also have been operator error clumsiness). Other than that flawless.
  21. Dunlop Pick Holders, spring loaded, about £3.50. I stick them to the back of the headstock, takes about 3-5 depending on the gauge you use.
  22. Started with Roto RS66 on my first bass, chewed up the frets and didn't really get on with the feel of them. My first proper bass was a Warwick and my Dad insisted it had to have Warwick black label strings. I used NPS rounds for a long time, whilst still not really enjoying the sound on a fretted bass, I tried RS77's and Chromes but didn't get on with them. One day I got hold of a cheap 90's Squier P bass put some Status flats on it and loved it, since then I've not used rounds on a fretted bass, I now use La Bella or GHS flats on fretted and NPS rounds on fretless.
  23. A case of just because you can, doesn't mean you should?
