1.
I'm wanting to brush up my technique, have someone assess my left and right hand positions, and generally make me a better player all round! A lot of teachers near me are guitar players who also teach bass. I'm not suggesting I won't learn anything off them, but for fear of being taught theory by someone who seldom picks up a bass I'd like an actual bass player, one with experience I can draw from, who can push my playing on a bit. Any ideas?
Afraid it's a difficult one. I live in n.devon and am encountering similar problems. My wife works in a school and asked one of the visiting music tutors if he knew of anyone in our area who taught bass. He taught bass himself but is a multi instrumentalist and fully booked. So no further forward unfortunately.
 2.
Thanks for all the advice people. I am totally happy with what I can, and do play. I am not interested in bass for bass sake. To me it's always just been a rather cool and subversive way of adding something to music. Trying to learn something new at this late stage would actually kill it completely for me! I think a break would be good. Does that mean I will get banned from BC?
It might if you ask for a guitar forum on BC. Ask velvetkevorkian what response he got from Ped when he suggested it. (it's in site issues) I'm still laughing just thinking about it.
 3. Must be the same Adrian Ashton whose book I bought, I didn't realise he was a director at Mansons. Saying that I haven't been into their premises at McCoy's Arcade, I tend to try and avoid the place on the rare occasions I am in Exeter. Nothing more embarrassing than drooling in a shop.
 4. Welcome. Nice gear. As for the tab and stuff, afraid I'm clueless . However, there is oodles of info on 'ere, so enjoy.
 5.
Get out
A very appropriate response. What a nerve, really!
 6.
Bless you Marvin. Is it time for your little lie down yet?
The doctor said if I take 3 of the green tablets and 2 of the yellow ones it may at least stop me dribbling.
 7.
Bass nerd? What should that mean then, eh?
I do apologise, my post wasn't directed at yourself, but I used your post as a possible 'answer' to the OP. In that if you want to wean yourself of BC take less interest in string gauges and the like, ie stop being so nerdy about the technical aspects of a bass, like what I am.
 8.
Will I get a permanent loan of £130 in return then?
Ah, you spotted the flaw in my request
I have started to pick up my tele a lot more though
I can't pick up my tele, it weighs a tonne. Anyway put it down someone might be watching it.
 9.
I do start some periodically, but it's not the point. I'm talking about, what people are 'used to' discuss. Discussions about jazz bass finishes, string gauges, and amp wattages - for me, these just are technical tools for making music, nonessential stuff, but they're not music itself, if that makes sense.. If it's good for you and others, mate, it's brilliant, but for me, it doesn't do the trick ,that's what I wanted to say. That's it, take care
The answer to the question then is stop being a bass nerd.
 10.
I have to admit that my interest in rock/metal has been minimal since 1978, so only the first half of that was of real interest to me. Also on the evidence shown a P bass only seems good for being anonymous both sonically and visually. The bassists who sounded interesting to me were Jack Bruce and Lemmy, neither of whom were sporting Fenders.
Surely that's somewhat of an exaggeration. I've never personally wanted a Fender but I wouldn't go as far to say they were anonymous either in looks or sound, especially considering so many manufacturers try to emulate them. EDIT: in actual fact sonically it doesn't matter because core tone is all b0ll0cks
 11.
As per title. Can't really be bothered anymore. Message ends.
Oh well cheerio! You won't want to be leaving that EB0, you just bought, gathering dust will you so pop it down anytime. Indefinite loan sort of thing just in case you change your mind
 12.
Can't say - Ped's watching
It's alright he's gone.
 13.
Why don't you people just boff everyone involved in heavy rock/metal and have done with it?
What's boff mean? Sorry I've led a sheltered life.
 14.
Gig wednesday, the bass used to belong to someone else on these boards. You can hear some recordings of the band here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=76422
You could have given the guy on the box a proper instrument to play, that's just bl00dy cruel. Weren't there any tambourines or triangles available?
 15.
I have no shame! Actually, Bruce Dickinson is looking rather hot these days :brow:
Isn't he though, what a dish he is with that short hair.
 16.
Is it terribly wrong to confess that I so would have 'done' a young Ozzy?
I think that was probably best kept to yourself. It's not too late there aren't many on the forum you could delete the post and no one would be the wiser. EDIT: Too late.
 17.
+1 Liked it, but was distracted by guitarist's boots.
Weren't they great Not a big fan of the era, but excellent programmes, I was glued to the screen (not literally of course that would be painful and impractical).
 18.
No wonder, you've been gone for almost 20 hours Marvin:
As an aside I've just noticed that I'm on the top 20 posters for the day. That's not good
 19. I was too young and too skint.
 20. Practice or jam with a drummer, it should cure it completely. He'll drown you out and you won't hear a fecking thing.
 21.
Ah now you've done it RhysP, we've never gonna see Marvin again.... Or alternatively in about 5 mins.
Cripes I think I've damaged my hand. It hasn't hurt like this since I tried practising stretching over 5 frets.
 22. Welcome
 23. Best of, belatedly because you're probably in the midst. Just to add, Mercy is a piece of you know. If I can play it so can a dog with mittens on Hope it all goes well
 24.
I love a glossed maple neck, but rosewood always seems to help with a fuller and richer, more balanced sound.
That'll be your core tone then will it?
 25.
You may not be aware of this, but there is a wealth of hardcore pornography on the internet that can serve as an interesting alternative to Basschat.
Good heavens above will these wonders of modern technology never cease to amaze me. So let me get this right, there are pictures of....... no surely not.
