1.
It's the oldies ain't it? Whichever way we look, the best true rockstars at the moment are the old ones. I'd throw in Jagger, Richards, Springsteen, Sting, Daltrey, Townsend, McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi easily into that list of bona fide superstars. Just hope that in 10 years time we've got enough younger guys reaching that legendary status to be able headline the big festivals eh.
Yeh i think Rock isn't as much a phenomenon in the mainstream as it once was. I know some people may disagree, but this kind of proves it. I cant think of anyone under 30 who i would consider a rock star, to the level they once were at least. One name you've missed out from the "over 40s" is Steve Tyler. I'd probably put him right up there with them.
2. Thank you good sir
3. So this is the amp: I will take some better pictures of it when i finish work today at 2ish, but the amp is in mint condition. Barely a scratch on it. I actually don't think there is a single mark on it, but as i don't have it in front of me right now, i wont say that definitively. Great little lightweight amp. Seriously loud!! A lot of people consider this as close as you can get to valve sound with a SS amp. Heres the specs off their website: Power Output: 500 watts into 4 ohms, 250 watts into 8 ohms Preamp Section: Solid State Power Section: Class D Transformer: Switching mode power supply (SMPS) EQ Section: Bass: +/- 17 dB @ 40 Hz Mid Level: +/- 16 dB Mid Frequency: 180 Hz – 1 kHz Treble: +/- 14 dB @ 4 kHz Drive Control: Fully adjustable, featuring Aguilar’s proprietary AGS(adaptive gain shaping) circuit. Effects Loop: Series operation. Adds 6 dB of additional gain, making it useful for a broad range of effects units. Inputs: One 1/4" input jack, compatible with all active and passive basses Speaker Outputs: Two Neutrik Speakon speaker outputs Balanced Output: XLR balanced output with pre/post EQ and ground lift switch Tuner output Cooling: Two high quality whisper fans with thermal speed control Dimensions: 10.75”W X 8.5”D X 2.75”H I think i have the original box with the manual, but i will double check when i get in. Either way, i will definitely be able to ship this, and it will probably cost £10 (ish). The cheapest i can find these is £550. Like i said, this is mint so represents a good saving. You're more than welcome to come and try it out. Any questions or offers, go ahead Cheers
4. It depends what kind of tapping you want. If you plan on playing the tapping where your still playing the bass notes with one hand whilst tapping out the melody with the other then i would probably suggest your normal settings normally with a little boost in treble, especially if your tapping is partly percussion aswel. Compression wont hurt either, but i dont personally use it.... Billy sheehan style isnt really my thing either, but i would guess a bit of delay and reverb will help! Im sure there are all sorts of different opinions on this mind. It is as personal as "what makes a good tone" Have a mess around with it.
5. Good to know! Cheers
6. Lovely looking bass!
7. Yeh I just need the head..... Lining someone up for a home run there haha With the combos, are the heads easy enough to just detatch?
8. Thats a good review. Now, i just have to wait for one to come up!!!
9. I'd say both. But a way to test if it is in the fingers is by having a group of 5 or 6 bassists learn the same song, and then have a rig and bass set up that will remain the same for all of them whilst they play, and ask them to play the song. If it is ALL in the fingers, each of them should still sound different. Next bass bash maybe?
10. Looks good. I hadn't heard of that finish before this. Congrats on finding "the one"!
11. Looks great. Reaaaalllllyyyy great
12. Mmmmmmm There may be a tone hammer in the for sale section very soon
13. Cheers I don't think I'll be able to get the money before the auction ends. I will look into it!!
14. I've been scouting all the big name hitters in the "valve world", and I think if money was no object I like the look of the matamp stuff. Discreet, is it this the Burman you mean? : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Burman-SL100-slave-power-amplifier-and-MPA-PA-pre-amp-with-added-guitar-channel-/201351375464?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ee17a2a68 I'm in south Wales so I could potentially visit this gent and have a play I didn't know sadowsky did valve amps. Bet they're a bit rare!
15. Yeh I'm happy to buy second hand, I know I'll get more for my money that way. I hopefully will find something I can try out before buying, but that's not a necessity (?) Never even seen a Burman other than on here, but I'd take a look for sure! Yeh I did think about the Ashdowns. Any other Barefaced with valve users out there?
16. Playing through my retro 210 in a recording session with my Aguilar TH as normal. Sound is great. Really really happy with it. It's our friends studio and he hadn't heard a barefaced before and he loved it, but suggested I tried one of his amps, just to see how it sounded. It was a Trace Elliot valve amp of some kind. I think it was the hexavalve. The sound was something else. Incredible. Now I won't have enough to buy one of these. I think he said he paid £800 second hand. But what options are there for around £500? Are there any?? Anyone here play their barefaced with a valve amp?
17. If you aren't ever likely to be outside the house playing, I'm guessing the weight isn't an object for you? If thats the case you could get some older Trace Elliot kit. If I wanted a setup that I wasn't planning on moving much, that's what I'd do
18. Hot stuff was pretty tricky for me when we first started playing it. Ok with it now, but took a while to get up to speed with it
19. Ben just sold me his ACG Really easy transaction. Comms were great and the packaging of the bass was top class. Have no hesitation in making a deal with Ben. Cheers mate
20. Well i keep my basses in the garage loft. So i end up learning new songs on my 6 string acoustic guitar! Just because that is what is closest to hand. Ive been waiting for a cheapish acoustic bass to pop up too though. Ideal for the house
21. I think its more about offending the Musicman Forum for modding a Stingray... I may be wrong!
22. Dont fall for it. Its a trick!!!
23. Looks great!! Love the Purpleheart detailing
24. Such a good bass. I'll not be letting go of mine
