1. I've had this kind of thing happen to me. Not with the whole having to go abroad to meet them. But i've had someone contact me and tell me they wanted me in their band because their friend had "seen" a vision of his band playing an American tour, and i was in it. So crazy as it sounds to some of us, there are definitely people who 100% believe in these things.
2. Does seem odd. But yeh, why not play along? As soon as they ask for any bank details or passport details, thats when to walk away. Or you could ask to be paid through paypal, see what they say to that! haha
3. Lovely bass, but a bit out of my price range. Have a bump on me though!
4.
Oh man, somebody buy this before i spend all ive saved on it.
Spend it, spend it, spend it
5. Nirvava - Nevermind. The first album that ever got me into music and playing music myself. Before this, i hadn't even considered picking up an instrument Blink 182 - Carousel - At the time, i thought the bass intro was the greatest bass line ever written, and once i'd conquered it, i will have made it Jamiroquai - Travelling without moving - Blew my mind. Loved everything about the album. Still do. I'd always been so against everything "pop" up until this point. Really opened my mind to what a dick i'd been Tony Rich Project - Nobody Knows - No idea why, but i absolutely love this song! Listened to it over and over and over. Jaco - Teen Town - This was the first Jaco song i heard. Not really my thing, but it changed the way i thought about what was possible on a bass
6. Cracking job Andy Turned out superb!!
7. I love the streamers. Loooks great!
8.
Here's the pic from the other thread again, TC 210 on a Stagg GAS-4.2 amp stand:
Thanks Bill. Yup that's the one I saw Ras haha. Cheers everyone
9.
Do a quick search on BC for 'boundary reinforcement'.
Pretty much exactly what i asked isnt it? Sorrrrryyyyyy
10.
Generally it's a bad idea.
Fair enough. Thanks Alex
11. I am guessing having the sound closer to ear level is a good thing, but having it off the floor, does that effect its perceived sound? Do i lose anything by doing this? There was a thread a little while back where someone posted a picture of their cab which was perched on what looked like a keyboard stand (cant remember exact thread sorry). That's what got me thinking..... I have a 2X10 setup now, and wondered if this kind of thing would benefit or hinder me?
12. Not disrespect in the way Blue is on about but having drunk people falling into you as you are playing is pretty annoying. I mean, if it happens once, no problem. Accidents happen. But last gig a lady full on stacked it into me mid song, i zero'd my volume and picled her up, then came back in. Instead of moving back a little, or somewhere else all togeher, she kept on dancing right infront of me. I had to move the position if my bass so i was playing it like a Cello she was so close. She proceeded to bump and knock me for the rest of the set. Super annoying. Not the firsty time it happened either! When there is a whole dancefloor to choose from, why stand that close?!?! Might set myself up an electric fence from now on.
13. We got lucky and found a good one, who also plays the sax! Winner. The way we went about it was to ring around al the local piano teachers. One of the teachers was nifty on the keyboard and fancied it, so maybe give that a try? Worked for us! If the teachers themselves aren't keen, surely they'll know some people who may be? Good luck. Having a good keys player makes a huge difference to our sound, although i do appreciate what some have said about them needing to be good
14. Thats cool. Its different. In a good way! Nice one
15. A lesson in perseverance! Amazing work Andy
16.
I suspect the above list of 'difficulties' reflects that fact that most of the things we have 'difficulties' with are not bass playing but party tricks.
Definitely
17.
It's weird, I can play latin and jazz all night, but not reggae.
I was the same when i first started playing reggae. I'm by no means an expert at it now, but i found its the space in the basslines that made it tricky. For me at least. I love it now though. It's a nice break after playing some of the motown stuff The technique i've never been able to grasp is playing with 3 or 4 fingers on the playing hand. I mean, i can do it, but the notes aren't even and it's just a shambles! I don't even try anymore, because i don't feel i need that technique with the stuff i play, but there was a time i just wanted to be able to play it and practiced it a lot. Still though, didn't ever really get close
18.
Wow... good stuff Can't complain about a free cab
I can't, and don't intend to
19. I'll get some pictures of it when we have practice next. I don't think there's any floor space in our house at the minute
20. Cheers everyone. Yeh, brilliant prize, which is exactly why I didn't want to seem unappreciative.
21. So it turns out I was the winner of the Retro Two10 competition. Outstanding bit of luck!! Couldn't believe it when I was told! Alex was a delight to deal with, as always, and the cab arrived when it was supposed to. As I'm in the middle of a house move (boxes everywhere), and our last weekends gig was cancelled, I haven't had a chance to have a go at it yet. But I can't wait!! It's the 4ohm version and I really think it could be the one cab solution I've wanted. This isn't meant to be a 'look at what I've got' thread, but at the same time, I feel very lucky to have won, and don't want the generosity shown by Alex to be unnoticed! So, thanks Alex! Look forward to giving it a blast and sharing my thoughts on it soon
