Stingray 2EQ vs 3EQ - why the big price difference?
Hutton replied to BassYerbouti's topic in Bass Guitars
This. If you try and like the 2EQ, buy it and save yourself a few £. If one day you feel you could do with a more mid-heavy sound, I'd do one of these: 1) carefully rewire the pickup with the coils in series rather than in parallel. It's a mighty sound. I personally prefer this for the 2EQ. 2) get a John East 3-band, which gives you essentially a 2EQ plus a midsweep module... Then you really have a lot of control over the mids. I have a 2003 MM SUB 2EQ (option 1 above) and a 2002 MM Stingray 2EQ with a John East preamp. The SUB is my favourite of the two. Which brings me to... the old USA MM SUB basses... They were only made between 2003-2006, and they may not be the prettiest... but they're amazing basses for little money (£3-400). My SUB is my #1 bass, that's all I'll say.
Agree entirely with this. I've had a couple of 2EQ Rays and a 2004 USA SUB. The SUB is with me for good. The other Rays have long since gone. The only Ray that would interest me now is a pre-eb but they're just too expensive! -

What is it with these prima donnas. I can't stand band members that don't pull their weight. Just because they are up front singing their wee hearts out doesn't give them any right to ignore the work. It's not until you become Tony Bennet that you can stroll on, sing, and stroll off. Who does this singer think he is. You're better off leaving this band and finding a proper bunch of musos who appreciate each other. All the best!

do you ever air bass when you hear a track..

I am a devotee of air bass. In fact, I think I'm more proficient on air bass than on real bass! -
I've had a couple of 70s Fenders that have been rubbish. My MIM 50s RI Precision batters them all on all counts, and at a fraction of the cost.
Well there you are. You see the problem is that we all come to this from our different experiences. I played a MIM 50s RI Precision and thought that it played horrible and sounded not a patch on my other precisions.

The bass is described as all-original with its original tweed case. If it is in first-class condition then £1500 is not unreasonable IMO.. These early 80s basses are very good instruments. I would certainly pay £1500 for this before I spent the same amount on a late 70s precision.

Welcome to the forum bobglaub01. You'll probably have gathered by now that photographs of your bass are eseential for a sale. This is all the more important as you are new to the forum and haven't yet built up the necessary confidence for people to buy from you. Your bass is also worth a lot of money which means people want to have a look before they buy. Also, as this is predeminantly a UK based forum it is unlikely that a buyer will travel to Holland to see the bass in person. You must also appreciate that there have been situations where people have tried to sell non-existent basses on here. These people are usually new to the forum. For all these reasons it is hugely unlikely that you will sell your bass here without posting up pictures and giving as much information as possible about the instrument. There are real experts on this forum who can spot problems with basses, and so to build confidence it is best to be entirely honest about the bass you are selling. Having said all that, and assuming that this is a genuine attempt to sell what I am sure is a marvellous bass, all the best with the sale.

Here's pics of my 83 (bottom pic) and 84 (top pic)headstocks. Confusion has arisen as 83 was a transition period with parts being used up. However, 83-85 Standrad Jazzes and Precisions didn't have bullet truss rods adjusters. This was the time when the bi-flex truss rod was introduced hence the change in adjusters.
AV allright, but standard 1983 P basses had bullets on the headstock.
No bullets on my 83 or 84 Precision. I'm afraid your information is wrong my friend.

I've got both on p basses. I don't notice the difference. All three of my p basses are a bit different from each other. The two rosewood boards are different from each other. I don't think it makes a difference to be honest.

I don't believe one of my heroes is on basschat. What a nice guy he is as well as a great player.

Sold a rather nice Rickenbaker 4001 to Rob (Fazziebear). Rob doesn't have many posts on here but the transaction was pleasant, friendly and just the way it should be. Basschatters can have complete confidence in all dealings with Rob.
Sorry for the diversion. In all honesty the date (and location) of manufacture of a particular bass is neither here nor there. If it feels and sounds good to you, then it IS good and if you like it enough then you should buy it. It doesn't matter one jot what "round the campfire" talk exists about certain periods of production. I highly doubt that anyone here has sufficient overview of the entire output of Fender from a certain era and location in order to make overall judgements applicable to the entirety of it.
This is one of the best things I've read in a long time. This just doesn't apply to fender basses but to the whole lot of them!
