1. I'd keep my Shuker cos it's the best bass in the world for me, and I'd invest the money in some more lessons so I can do it justice.
2.
Arn't they devil worshipers tho? Apart from the dyslexic one that sold his soul to Santa.
Brilliant
3. Soundslive are brilliant IME and that's where I go first. I've always had great service from Electromusic in Doncaster and PMT in Brum are good too. The worst I've experienced was Sound Control - Oxford Road Manchester, they tried to pass off a truly battered LMII as brand new - I think it's still up his ar5e.
4. Not fully mixed yet but I'm pleased with it...
5. I'm completely GAS free since I got my Aguilar AG500 (2 channel), 2 GS112s and a Tonehammer - it does everything from squeaky clean to down and dirty filth, it's relatively light, modular and looks the bollocks. Like you Gareth, I had to go through a lot of gear to get there but it was fun
6. Ooh I dunno - there's a support act first so I guess about 9pm ish.

Silver Dogs

First gig with my new band The Silver Dogs is at the Playhouse 2 in Shaw (nr Oldham) on 23rd January. There's still some tickets left (£7.50) if you've nowt better to do. Hard to describe the music but they call it Ambient Folk Rock.
8. Just finished recording with the band using an Aguilar Tone Hammer straight into the desk - I'm really pleased with the sound and got some nice compliments off the sound engineer.
9. +1.9 for Andy at Wizard Pickups - wouldn't buy anything else.
10. Amongst may other fine gifts, my lovely missus bought me a copy of a Steely Dan DVD I must admit I didn't know existed. It's called Two Against Nature and it's absolutely brilliant - a must have for any Steely Dan nut. I thought I'd just post a heads up in case there are others who are thick and ignorant like me.
11. Too busy learning songs to learn how to slap.
12.
To be honest, despite what's been said here (and I consider myself to be pretty experienced), I'll always raise an eyebrow when people say they can tell how a cab will perform at a gig just from hearing it solo'd in an empty room or in the shop. I always file any reviews of that nature - be it of a cab, amp or bass - under 'Take with a pinch of salt'.
This is precisely why I've gone through shedloads of gear to arrive where I am today. You can't tell IME - some of the sweetest sounding stuff in the showroom has turned out to be a steaming pile of bat poo when gigged. I don't think one gig's enough either to form an opinion - you need to try gear in different rooms / on hollow stages etc.
13. Yep - PMT in Brum always have a good selection in.
14. You won't be disappointed - this is a superb bass
15. Well - been and gone and done it. It was a really nice venue right on the canal in city centre Manchester and the function was a law firm's Christmas party. I wasn't looking forward to this one at all and arrived in an appaulingly bad mood - the drive into Manchester was tortuous thanks to Madness being on at the MEN Arena and Christmas shoppers and there was nowhere to park at the venue. Also, the harp player rang to say he was running very late cos he'd lost his keys and couldn't get to his gear so there would be no time for a soundcheck . We were asked to go on a bit earlier than anticipated so there was no set list prepared so the harp player made a few notes on a beer mat (no kidding). We started the first number - while they were still eating, and it took me at least 3 bars to figure out what key we were playing in. Despite all the embarrassing moments and lack of professionalism, we went down well in the first set Second set went well too but by now, approximately half the people had left or gone into another room so we were kind of playing for ourselves. Then, with about 3 songs to go, a load of people suddenly appeared from nowhere and started dancing and surprise surprise, a party had broken out. We finished to rapturous applause and left the stage only to be dragged back in to do a couple more songs as an encore and they were loving it. We finished the encore and were powering down when, out of the corner of my eye I saw the organiser walking towards us with money in his hand and thought "here we go, he's paying us off" but no, it was another £150 to keep going. So, I was wrong - we didn't go down like whaleshit. It ended up being a good night and we were paid a fairly obscene amount of money for a down and dirty blues band.
16. So that's what all the traffic was coming through Salford - I would've loved to have seen them myself Russ. Much more enjoyable than what I was doing - playing to a load of solicitors.
17.
which specs were wound the wizards ( coils , poles/blade etc) ? I''m always curious to try different pickups and those are emg size-soapbars i see .
TBH - I have no idea. I literally just told him I'd like single coils with as little hum as possible and sounding like a Jazz with bollocks. I think you'll find they're a bit longer than EMGs which I considered at the time but they wouldn't have filled the existing rout completely.
Homer - do you practice every sunday?? I have already payed up for a GS112 and it should be here pretty soon, but I'd definitely be interested in checking out how your setup sounds
Hi Veils, we do practice every Sunday but we're recording again this weekend (overdubs / mixing etc). After Christmas, we'll be rehearsing a lot ready for our first gig at the Playhouse 2 in Shaw towards the end of January. I'm actually gigging in Manchester tonight but it's a private function which is a pity but you can come up any evening or Saturday and you can try it at gig volume.
18. Hi Jamie - I've just done some recording with an Aguilar Tone Hammer, it's a superb piece of kit and I'd recommend one highly.
19. I took the Dual Coils out of my Shuker and replaced them with some custom Wizards for half the price. They dropped straight in and the improvement in tone was breathtaking. I think largo has done the same and I know he's has happy as me with the Wizards. Just something to consider.
20. Update; I've just spent two days in the studio recording with the Shuker and it sounded absolutely amazing - even the sound engineer commented how much he loved the sound. I used an Aguilar Tone Hammer and that's it - I'm chuffed and can't wait to hear the finished article.
21. Buy a Boschma - piss all over Gator and SKB IMHO and cheaper too. Flightcase Warehouse sell 'em.
22. I've had 4 Spectors - I love 'em to bits. Best value for money out there IMO. I'm not fond of the Tone Pump preamp and swapped the last one for an ACG02 which was a big improvement but too fiddly to use live. GreeneKing's water cured redwood Spector is the best bass I've ever played bar none. I pray every day that he's getting sick of it cos I would find the money for that one
23. Thanks for that
24. Thanks Eude - can't wait for the next gathering of the clans and us sassanachs up there. It'd be nice to have one in the Spring / early Summer methinks.
25. My new to me Fender Reggie Hamilton - I changed the strings and the batteries and did a set up on it last night. I went to bed very late after some very happy twanging along to my band's cd.
