String/Mod Options for Down Tuning a 4 String (Drop A)
Sibob replied to progben's topic in Accessories and Misc
Just talk to Newtone Strings and let them know what you're trying to achieve. String tension isn't about gauge, it's about core size. So you could probably opt for a BEAD set, but quite a light gauge, but have a thicker core. Mean's you'd have minimal work to get the nut to play ball, and wouldn't have a massive B string flapping around where a 125 might do the job! Si -
Very kind of you, cheers Si

Internal based soundcards tend to be fairly old-hat now, with most being incorporated into motherboards. PCI is very old technology, and PCI-e is usually reserved for fairly advanced audio systems (Pro Tools HD, AoIP etc), so I'm not surprised M-Audio no longer support your old card. A PCI to PCI-e adapter will obviously only ever run at PCI speed, so you're spending money to get old tech working. The closest to PCI-e you'll get (with regards to speed), is an external sound card/interface that uses the Thunderbolt protocol. With regards to ASIO4ALL, worth remembering that it's just a WDM (Windows Driver Model) audio driver dressed up as an ASIO driver so that it's recognised by DAWs, as such, I don't believe you'll be able to use any more than the first two inputs and outputs (assuming it has more than that). So it may get you out of a fix, but don't expect any performance miracles . Si // Focusrite Media Relations

Then you’re missing out on an incredible amount of fantastic info and insight. Oh well Si

The only preamp/DI I have (if you don’t count my recording interface (which is both)), is my 3Leaf Enabler. Love it, always sounds great on gigs, although for recording I always go straight into the interface as it sounds great? and do the work in the DAW. Si

I had one on loan from Boss for a few weeks. My personal opinion is that it sounds excellent, but I would encourage you to try before you buy just to ensure the work-flow is for you, patch creation etc. Si

I don’t personally as I have changed roles at Focusrite since I posted this. However Tech Support may still be interested. Either way I would recommend contacting Tech Support as soon as you can, they’ll get a new clip out to you ASAP! https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new Si // Focusrite Media Relations

The Precision pickup cover just gets in the way for me, looks good in photos though. I have the bridge cover on though, I play a lot of palm muted thumb style, so just to protect the saddles getting knocked about. So purely functional. Si

Any techs can repair my KRK active monitor?
Sibob replied to Twigman's topic in Repairs and Technical
You’re certainly able to ask any tech to take a look, all i’m saying though is that they won’t be able to get hold of any schematics if needed. Spares can be purchased from Focusrite I believe. Si -
70’s - Arena tours and professional shows put together by labels etc. Maybe a few shows putnon by local promoters and pubs. Now - Massive arena tours, professional shows out together by labels, kids touring their garage band for months with a DIY ethos, medium-sized artists taking control and touring from kick-starter campaigns etc. 40 years from now - yes it might be different in some way, but you can’t say that gigs will be doubtful, it’s not based on any evidence or trend. The whole ‘when I was a kid’ thing doesn’t stand up here. Si

Oh sorry haha, just that you mentioned a car bodyshop quoting for a full spray, wrong end of the stick Si
-
Lol, why is it doubtful? Si
-
A full car body refin for £200? I don’t think so?! A bass refin will be between £250-500 I’d say, very much depending what you want (natural, solid, metallic etc). You could patch the wear instead probably, instead of a full body refin, but doubt it would get back to ‘as new’. Si

If you want to send them to me (either PM here or email is fine), feel free to PM me and i’ll pop them up Si

10 months today still waiting for Musicman to ship my Stingray....
Sibob replied to Max Normal's topic in General Discussion
I had a US Lakland built to my spec (ie not something you find as a ‘standard’ US model on their website), 3 months My ACG is currently estimated at 10months. I imagine with Musicman, it’s not the build that takes time, it’s the queue you’re in for something non-standard. Si -

Have you asked them? Did they advise a build time? Si -
Yes the Saffire range is now discontinued (on account of Apple depreciating FW as you mention). Typically we’ll support any discontinued product with driver/software updates for two years past discontinuation, however this of course depends on Apples support of that protocol. As such, whilst there is certainly refurbished Saffires to be had on the estore (possibly a minor repair, more likely a demo unit), I’d probably recommend either a Scarlett 18i20 (USB, same preamps as Saffire), or Clarett 8Pre (Thunderbolt or USB, better preamps/audio spec). Cheers Si // Focusrite Media Relations

There isn’t really any official recommendations here. Fundamentally it’s not rack-mountable and we wouldn’t recommend tampering with any fixings. As such, the ‘best’ solution would be to purchase a rack-mountable interface (Saffire Pro40, Scarlett 18i20, Clarett 8Pre etc). Other than that, it’s finding a solution such as you’re already discussing. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. Si // Focusrite Media Relations

The service centre is in Acton if that helps: http://synthservice.com If you need a spare part, you would need to purchase it from them anyway (or possibly directly from Focusrite (UK distributor) if the service centre don't sell outside of a repair). But whoever fixes it would possibly need the schematics, which wouldn't be released by KRK or the service centre. Si -
This is on their site now: "Important Notice! Please note that we have ongoing technical issues with our main inbound telephone line, so we advise contacting us via our second landline for the moment on 01271 344581." Not sure if it was there when you guys contacted? Thought it worth mentioning. Si
