  1. Define need? 99% of us don’t need the gear we buy/trade. To me, what you’ve laid out is simply a concession ready to be bent/flaunted Si
  2. The point is that you’re still dealing in gear, the excercise is to get away from it. I would argue that if you’re selling something, simply say ‘cash only’, it’s for the buyer to then shift their gear/come up with the bunce, rather than you take a part-ex. You do you obviously, i’m just outlining what I’m going to be adhering to. Si
  3. If you need any advice on the Novation stuff, just let me know Si // Novation
  4. Thread here. Si
  5. There is no 'better', there is only what you like. If you fell utterly in love with a Stenback, you would pay the price to get one. As it happens, you fell in love with a Sei and it was cheaper.......there's nothing more to it than that. Si
  6. Regarding trades, it’s still seeking and acquiring new gear, it’s not necessarily about the money :). Trades remain illegal Si
  7. Yup, fine to sell Si
  8. Ok, edited the first post with the following, let me know if I missed anything: Off the back of this becoming more popular than I had anticipated....here are the RULES: Tier 1 Challenge During the calendar year of 2019 (01/01/19 - 31/12/19): - No bass gear purchases/trades whatsoever, be that amps, pedals, basses, accessories. Tier 2 challenge (should you play other instruments, engage in music production etc) - As above, but extended to your other musical gear Allowances in both tiers: - Strings (sticks, skins, reeds etc) - Maintenance/setups that only involve work on existing aspects of your bass (ie no purchasing a preamp to add to it) - If something breaks through no unusual intervention of your own, and is unable to be repaired, you may replace it. - Educational purchases, ie tutorial books, lessons, anything that furthers your playing is permitted. - If you have purchased something in 2018, you are able to take delivery of it within 2019. - If you have put down a deposit on something before committing to this, which then requires a final payment within 2019, that single payment permitted. However you may wish to explore whether you can pay the balance early (if you're a little OCD like me). I think that about covers it, please also treat this thread as a bit of a 'support group', any funny stories about near misses, discoveries about your current gear that you might not have focused on before, things learned by spending money on learning over gear etc etc etc. Finally, I would like to say that THIS IS JUST FOR FUN, if someone falls off the wagon, no-one cares. This initially just started out to see whether I can achieve it.....a rather extreme exercise in really appreciating the amazing gear I already have.
  9. Any setup/maintenance work comes under strings as an allowance I would say. But yes, preamp would be a stretch.....but that’s paid for so..... And with regards to having put down a deposit before committing to this, just whistle and look the other way when handing over the balance ......that doesn’t work for those who are aware/committed to this though lol. Si
  10. Everyone has exactly 2 weeks from today to get their 2019 purchases paid for in full Si
  11. The guy is just wired very differently to most people, with his wife being complicit, there’s even some telling characteristics of psychopathy in there. He’ll never have a meaningful music career.....maybe a ‘viral entertainment’ career, but not much more. Si
  12. Very cool! Si
  13. D’Addario Chromes or Ernie Ball Cobalts? Si
  14. You mention Thumb'S' and so if you have more than one, just string one of them BEAD until 2020 Si
  15. If you’ve made that commitment before joining this ‘initiative’, then you’re fine......think of it as booking a holiday before starting a new job 😁 Si
  16. The rules are: - During 2019, no ordering and/or no paying for anything bass related. You’re allowed to receive something if you pay for it in 2018. - String purchases are allowed. - You’re allowed to replace something that breaks if it can’t be repaired. Si
  17. My Lakland 44-64 and Noble Pre will be coming in 2019 (doubt the Lakkie will make it from US before Xmas now), but both are fully paid for. Other than that, totally ready (apart from Mustang gigbag) for the 2019 challenge Si
  18. It is one of their titles, and so whoever told you that is mistaken (they may not have been aware of every title that was part of the merger). Call them again and talk to someone higher if necessary. I can’t imagine there will be any issue with getting a refund now it’s a duplicate publication (which was always the case when they announced it, no-one has been cheated). Si
  19. I’m still on course for my gear hiatus :). The Noble will be ordered this weekend and collected at NAMM, then I’m done for a year apart from a Mustang gigbag (which is part of my allowance lol). I am vaguely planning a 5 string P from Lakland in 2020, but let’s get through 2019 first. Si
  20. This. It genuinely looks awful, how that got through the product design process is beyond me. Stick to the other full size P/J model, then reissue this with the standard Mustang split on it's own....it's that easy. Si
  21. Maybe Spring 2019 and March 2020? Walk it back in order to swap with LBGS Si
  22. The trouble with that setup is that many who offer both will likely prefer to be part of the guitar show, usually because they're seen as a guitar brand who offer bass products, not vice-versa. I'd like to see brand stands split over both shows/floors, allowing those who cover both to offer dedicated offerings for each show. Logistically not ideal for the exhibitor, but the best experience for the punter in my opinion. Discounted space would clearly make sense for those looking to split stands, and it would hopefully mean we'd see the return of some big names to the bass show as a result of their attendance at the guitar show. I can see manufacturers not wanting to do that though unfortunately. But I'm no events coordinator though so we'll see what they've come up with. I'm sure it will be nothing but the best for each show, but retaining the character of the bass show is a must for it to survive I think. Si
  23. Fantastic, think it actually works really well! That's basically Prog for that era haha Si
  24. Anything by Kate Rusby. Anything by Nickel Creek Si
  25. Daysleeper is still one of my favourite songs ever. Fixed it for you. Si
