For transparency, I work for Novation. You might find that a polyphonic keyboard synth with over 2 octaves is a bit of a stretch (for something quality) for £200. FWIW, I've never felt restricted by 2 octaves for key-bass parts, if anything it focuses what you're doing. You're essentially losing 1 octave compared to a 22 fret bass, ask yourself how often you genuinely play in that third octave. Bear in mind that all synths will have buttons that allow you up and down octaves, actually making their range a great deal more than a bass. My buddy Shawn doesn't seem to feel restricted: Polyphony will almost certainly up your budget, a used Ultranova would be great, but whilst it's awesome, bear in mind that it's probably not going to teach you a great deal about synthesis by just using the presets on the hardware, you need to use it in conjunction with the Ultranova editor on your computer. As opposed to the BSII where each feature has a hardware control on the actual unit, much more hands on. They both can also be used as midi controllers though, so for your production work, if you don't want to use the sounds on the synth, just use the hardware to control sounds on your computer. Anyway, just some food for thought, other brands and products are obviously available Most important thing is to have fun! Si

Do Bandlab have any technical support? Tried calling them? Si

Incase Fender are watching, yes, fail on that Mustang Jazz Pickup. Either don’t use one at all with the classic split cool shape (the newer P/J’s are fine), or do something cool like the lipstick p’up arrangement on the last page. This new layout looks lazy! Si

Quite, Thunderbolt 2 = one adapter, Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) = two adapters. I would argue that there’s a fair number of Thunderbolt options, but as you say, it tends to be middle to high end interfaces, purely because it’s usually more experienced producers, working on more processor hungry sessions, that require that latency headroom. For the vast majority of us, USB 2.0 is more than sufficient for recording. Si

Anything by Richard Bona Anything by Justin Chancellor Anything by James Jamerson Si

I should point out that Firewire will work over Thunderbolt with the appropriate connector (although not vice-versa), when I say 'Firewire is dead' I simply mean no-one is developing it anymore, including Apple. Si

FireWire is dead. Everything is either USB or Thunderbolt, and even then it’s moving to USB-C (which has ability to carry USB & Thunderbolt 3 protocols) Si

A quick Google suggests that the following would be a good place to start: https://www.rncm.ac.uk/study-here/what-you-can-study/undergraduate/bachelor-of-music-popular-music/ https://www.bimm.co.uk/manchester/ Si

Rudy's is fun for a look around, but it's a bit like looking for a bargain in Vintage & Rare......never going to happen (not that you're in the market). I went into the Guitar Centre in Brooklyn, decent stock, but largely boring. If interested in Fodera and/or Sadowsky then definitely email them first and explain your situation. When I was over, I had a workshop tour at Fodera (although I did have an order in with them at the time), they were more than happy to accommodate if it was on a particular day. Not sure how Sadowsky works, but I imagine you also increase your chances by pre-arranging it. Leave a good 1-2 hours to find each place via the Metro and walking, Fodera is a fair old trip down to mid-Brooklyn. Si -
Pete bought my Sub n Up, super fast payment after initial message. Cheers and enjoy! Si

Put them in 20 or 30mins before you play, acclimatise to the volume drop! Louder things being ‘better’ is obviously just psychoacoustics. Si

As long as you’re happy 😃 Si

I got some good string/woodwind/brass collections from Plugin Boutique for 91% off or something stupid, £4 each. Also bought some Nike running shoes today for 50% off, direct from Nike. Doing well lol. Not spotted anything of interest bass wise, but I’m pretty much sorted! Si

Hi all, Poultone Trooper Boost (B Stock) Found the last of my Trooper Boost PCB's so built it up. Some scuffing on the bottom of the enclosure (photo available if required). Clean boost that goes from a smidge above unity to all out danger-loud lol. Use it to drive your tube amp, or perhaps even in front of your favourite drive pedal to send it further into saturation. Clean and well built inside with quality components. £35 inc postage. TC Sub N Up Mini - SOLD Cheers Si

My feeling, and this is very personal, is that at the point where I'm struggling to hear anything with the Pro17s.....I wouldn't wear plugs, as long as I'm not sat right next to a cymbal. Si

My experience is that if you're not being put through the PA (ie relying on backline to fill the room), you will always be a bit louder on stage than perhaps sounds correct in order to sound balanced out front. If the band complain, have them stand out front during soundcheck to listen. The amount of times that it sounds nice and mixed onstage, then the singer has gone out front and subsequently told me to turn up (no PA support) is innumerable. That stage mix then settles in over a couple of tunes. Si

Yeah I will say, if it’s your first time with ‘proper’ plugs, persevere! Si

I’ve got Pro17s and they’re perfect (for me). Maybe you just play much quieter gigs/rehearsals?! Or your hearing is already knackered. Si
