1. Must be one hell of a studio you're building! And after all that searching for it!....well.....good luck . Si
2.
Would an email to Fender customer support (or custom shop) help define the providence of this bass?
I was just about to say!.... Easily the best way to sort it, send them an email and start a thread over on the Fender Forums! Si
3.
Oh none obviously, as Henry Ford would have attested 43 years previously!
Repectfully, I think you'll find that there were more people involved in Ford and Fender's early efforts than machines Si
4. I like his beard! Si
5.
That's because way back when, before the corporations got involved, Gibsons were made by craftsmen, Fenders were made by machines for cheaper production & easy repair. It's a natural progression for Fenders to go over to China or Korea to be made by a cheap labour force on machines, while Gibsons craftsmen die out & top dollar is charged by the few that can be bothered to train up to the job. Those that don't knock out the run of the mill Gibsons with flaws, then buyers say they are over-priced. I don't much like Fenders, can you tell? Only because they're too common, too every-day. If they float your boat then fine, but I really don't get the "other" forums that show endless lists of near identical Fenders & they drool over them like they're some grail.
What a bizarre read! You're suggesting that all fenders pre '65 were made on massive factory production lines?.....what mass-manufacturing technology existed back then in your world? lol. Obviously whilst master craftsmen were holed up in tiny sheds with nowt but rudimentary tools for Gibson? I jest obviously See a good instrument isn't simply about craftsmanship (as whoever designed Gibson headstock joints is well aware ). The fact that you mention that Fenders are "easy to repair", regardless of how they're built, is going to appeal to working musicians!.....back then even more so than now!. Players back then didn't have 10 basses to choose from for a gig...they had one, and a backup if they had a major label deal lol. From a bass point of view, Fenders sounded good, were solid, versatile, looked the part! Gibson's were a bit niche, generally sounded muddy (mudbucker EB-0's anyone). Oh and the Les Paul basses were neck heavy! But hey, if they float your boat! Si
6. Malcolm....if you fancy selling your pre-eb Stingray....lemme know! Si

12.
Wot? You're Mike's Mrs??!!
To be fair......that's how I read it lol Si
13. I think Steve realises that this needs to be played though....old fender or not, it's an instrument that should be out at gigs doing what it was built for! Si
14. What was the sellers Returns policy listed in the advert? Si
15. He had Tal Wilkenfeld for a while, not sure when though....Has Roscoe Beck played for him? Wikipedia probably knows lol Si
16. Based on the submissions in the thread currently......I'm re-stating my opinion that NO-ONE cares about a covers band's name! Si
17. This is a beauty of a bass, I nearly had it but life got in the way . But yeah, stunner, and Steve is a great guy! Si
18. Ibanez.....BLEUUGGGHH that is all . How about the Ibanez ATK's? (think they're called something else now)....basically Ibanez' answer to MM's Si
19. I tried a Metro at the Bass Gallery in Camden and thought it was ace actually.....having said that it was only in a shop...at a gig is a whole other kettle of balls. I tried a US Sad at a gig and thought it was very very average! Si
20. That CAR Precision is a blinder, great price too! Si
21. Having not read Guy's book on the boards here I can safely stay on my high-horse....... I just hope Tony Levin doesn't find out I read a borrowed copy of Beyond The Bass-Clef I never got on with my stacker I have to say, If I'd kept it, I would have taken it back to Vol/Vol/Tone....but then I sold it! Si
22. Not to be extra cynical....but does anyway care about the name of a covers band? lol They're all awful....so pick anything and run with it Si (I can say all this because I'm in a very busy covers band with a very generic name....it makes no difference)
23. Excellent, cheers for that Matski Si
