1. My New Zealand stable of Precisions: L to R 1977, CIJ 51RI and 1973
2. Here she is, the Xmas pressie I bought myself. It's an early 2000's CIJ 51RI Precison. The previous owner stripped it back to the wood and refinished in Transparent Blonde. He also stripped the neck finish, added a slight contour, replaced the jack socket with a Strat-stryle one, added a bakelite pickguard and a nic set of LaBella flats - all of the mods I would have made myself anyway! It THUMPS!!! Totally smitten!!! Only thing I'd do is add a bridge cover, which I will do later this week if I can find one...
3. I love my Jag (Hot Rod Red w matching headstock). Bought it new last year (but it'd been hanging in a store unsold for about 4 years) Looks ace, Amazing slim Jazz neck and a really dark snappy tone. I rarely use mine in active mode, but when I do it's just for that little extra boost. It's like an aggressive Jazz bass tone in passive and the series parallel switch gives you the option to fatten/darken the tone. I had the Squier VM first and loved the PJ pups. I played that more than any other bass I've owned! Then got the Fender and A/B'd them. The Fender just had more bite and a lot more tonal variation. Heartbreakingly, I sold the Squier after a couple of weeks being 'Two Jags'. A couple of other posts have mentioned a noise issue - I am aware of a few people having this problem but can safely say mine is 100% perfect without any extra shielding. It's my main gigging bass at the moment and I always get heaps of questions about it at gigs. Haven't tried the Troy Sanders or the Modern Player Jags but I doubt they'll top the Deluxe series. Get one! Them's my two cents anyway.

5.
Is there anyone with a Thunderbird and an EB, who can compare the sound of both (EB in HB mode)?
+1 The more I see of the bullion gold model, the more I want one!!! If it can out-Thunderbird a Thunderbird I'm having one, with chips and a LARGE coke!!!
6. Surely with it's combination of round and crispy it's more similar to a Lion Bar? Would love a pair of those Fidelitrons for a project!
7. Own an Ampeg and love it it. Tried an Ashdown and didn't think it was brilliant. Tried a Mesa and also loved it. Hard call but would swing toward the Ampeg for a slightly more 'muscular' sound.
8. You definitely want Olympic White. I've got an Arctic white standard Jazz and it isn't as white as I would have like either. Also had a CIJ Precision in Olympic White andit would make the boffins at Daz or Persil cry it was so brilliantly white!
9. I was never that big a fan of Mesa back in the old country, but since I've come down here I've become a bit of a convert from the Ampeg stuff! (Mind you, I'm just waiting till I get my gear shipped, then I'll have it ALL MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Seriously though, I've got an MPulse 600 and PH 8x10 which I picked up for an insanely low price - well trade (I got very lucky!)!!! This is my main rig and it is glorious!!! Don't be fooled by its clean and sexy, modern lines and alluring finish - it's not made of aluminum, spiders webs and helium - It is in fact a horrible and merciless b*stard to shift! However, when in situ and going, it does in fact [s]move air[/s], nay - move mountains, part seas and generally produces a very pleasant bass sound that both flaps me trousers AND makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Since getting my grubby mitts on this weapon of mass seduction, I've had the matching 2x10 cab and also bought a Scout Radiator 15 and both of those cabs are ace too. I'm now keen on something Mesa AND a bit more full of magic glass bottles, but having tried the Prodigy and not falling in love at first sound, I fear I am doomed to roam the earth in a state of 'meh'. Wouldn't mind a Buster head or perhaps a D -180 (something with a bit of throat!) To answer the original question though: Not sure about the new prices but there are some great S/H deals to be had, especially round these here parts (BC Marketplace) Just my two pence - or $20 NZD or whatever the exchange rate is...

12. I believe this is what is now shipping with the American Standard series instruments from 2013 on-wards... http://www.fender.com/en-NZ/accessories/cases/abs-molded-precision-bassjazz-bass-case-black/ They still have SKB cases with the Deluxe series, for now.
13. I have a 1997 American Deluxe P and I haven't had any shielding issues. Plays brilliantly, no buzz or hiss. My only complaint is the weight - I want it to be heavier (where's the sense of value?!)
14.
I fecking love Dean Cabbies. P
Me too!!! Spent ages trying to get one back in Ireland and the UK and always missed out. Now they go for stupid money in the US they are getting harder to get hold of. Luckily this was sitting idle in a miner's spare room in unplayed condition out in Perth WA, and I got it shipped over for a very reasonable price. Getting ready to swap out the pups for TV Jones or Gretsch ones and she'll be even sweeter!

16. Hi guys, just wondering about the height steings should be off the fretboard for real slap style playing. The reason I ask is that yesrerday I found a Ramirez bass (baby)in an odds and ends music store. On first inspection it seemed really similar to my baby clone but with a different scroll. Also it had steel strings on it i asked to have a go and found that the strings were practically sitting on the fretboard. It played beautifully and i found my technique even altwred slightly; I played harder withoit any effort at all. Didnt have to dig in even remotely-by comparison, u could drive a train under my strings and I wonder if this is why I find my right hand tends ro stiffen up during or after a half hour or so of practice?. So I'm considering shimming the neck on my bass to get the same effect and hoping that my weedwhackers will sound even better. Any thoughts?
17. Played one yesterday afternoon here in Auckland. I liked it but it wasn't that great if I'm totally honest. Played it through a Fender Neo 610 and cranked it. Disn't find it broke up very well. Lots of clean headroom. Reminded me a bit of the Buster. I much preferred the Super Bassman and Ampeg V4B reissue. The Ampeg costs the same as the Mesa-about $2,900 (1500 pounds) and i loved the sounds I got from it. Still, wouldn't mind another go with the Prodigy with one of my own basses-just to be sure like!
18. Anyone have a favourite tubey grind or overdrive? Just got my Switch 3 and want to start playing with tones for my BH 250 What else do you use?
19. Its listed on Roxkshop here in New Zealand at $2999, so I guess it will be a touch under 1500 quid - there's hope yet...

22. Anything Sunburst P Basses: Started with nothing but Jazz basses because i thought the P Bass was 'flat and boring and too traditional'. Then i got a decent one and a love affair began. Shed all my jazz basses bar two and went almost Precision only. I thought the Jazz lacked any real depth by comparison. Weirdly though, since getting my hands on a sunburst 2011 Am Std. Jazz (seriously the best build quality and tone I have EVER experienced!!!) I am starting to think my heart is big enough for both. (Maybe not my music room though...) Aria basses (really want a black SB!!!) Anything Squier: Had a couple of horrible ones when I first started playing (borrowed), really put me off them. Loved every one of the VM series I have tried (that 51 reissue one is amazingly nice to play!. I sold my VM Jaguar last month with a genuine tear in my eye, she was simply stunning (I'd have another one in a heartbeat!) Lightweight/Class D amps and cabs (now loving the TC BH250!!!) Marmite
23.
That's a good solution!
+1 Might have to get one of those straps I reckon
