1. Go for gold!!! Get the biggest, meanest rig you can - as long as transport isn't an issue. I have a few big full stack set ups. 8x10's are great - really love my Mesa. The Ampeg 610hlf is a great compromise - does the job, looks the part and easier to shift about. For sheer hair metal, fake codpiece ego inflation, nothing beats the Marshall VBA 400 atop two matching VBC 4x12's (even better when it all arrives at the venue in flight cases!) sheer overkill!!! But there is no better way to move air and make all the ladies love the low end!!!😝
  2. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:152749] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:152750] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:152748] I had similar thoughts (and taste) but didn't go as far... My Butterscotch 51 RI Precision was nice but i wanted to make it feel a bit more 'lived in' Stripped paint, added slight contour, and refinished with a white blonde finish with a final clear coat over that (beautiful woodgrain showing through). Also relic'd the finish a wee bit around the edges. Added proper vintage wiring harness, new input jack and full cavity shielding (second japanese bass I've had with poor cavity shielding). I thought about replacing the stock pickup with something else, but have decided to leave that for now - really digging the sound. Also added appropriate bridge and pickup covers I also sanded back the finish on the neck. Now it feels amazingly good to play Chucked on some LaBella flats and she's now an old school tone-machine!!! Just waiting on a chrome tug bar to arrive from overseas and the rebirth is complete
  3.
basshead56, very nice crop pf basses, and that blue P is a beauty!
Thanks mate Yeah, I've not really been able to avoid GAS like I thought I might- by travelling to the other side of the world I believe that I have proved, beyond reasonable doubt, that one simply cannot run away from the cursed GAS Just waiting for my container load of gear to arrive from back home and I will have one very large collection indeed!!! Needless to say, Mrs Basshead56 is not looking forward to said arrival! But yeah, the 77 blue P is a true thing of beauty. No matter how many more I've gotten since, I keep coming back to her. Just such a unique sounding and feeling Precision. I am looking forward to A/B'ing it with my Siennaburst and Sunburst 70's P's when they get here, just to see how different the necks, weights and tones are.
  4. Not brilliant pics, but here's my one true love. Meet Heidi... 77 Precision. Refin in LPB with gold flake, SPB-3 pup, mirror pg and a set of nicely dulled DR Neons. Refin and pup mod was done before I got her. I bought it the week before I came to NZ - it was waiting for me here when I landed Simply the best Precision I own/have owned. Excellent tone, not too heavy, well balanced, beautiful neck. A true gem and an awesome way to start my NZ collection If there was a fire, this is what I'd save
  5.
If anything, they went TOO far with their customer service. This is amazing. Hats, shoes, and underpants off to them
+1 That shows serious commitment to customers! Good on'em!
  6.
I have two of those cabs - ironically you can't use two of them with the Micro VR head as it makes it produce nasty popping/cracking noises so I use them with an Orange Terror Bass instead!
Never noticed that with my Micro VR and 2 cabs. Is this a common problem then?
  7. Hi Guys, Recently seen one of these: http://www.decibel11.com/Hot-Stone-Deluxe-Power-Supply.html Looks like I could use a current doubler on 12v side of the 1st and 2nd outputs to gain enough current to support the 550ma or so that is required by the awkward and thirsty MB Super Synth that plagues my otherwise Utopian board! Also, this would power supply unit would give me the 1 extral 9V outlet that I am short to add my new compressor Anyone know if this would be a safe option?
  8. Second hand 2008 - present American Standard Jazz gets my vote!!! Simply the best in my experience so far. Build quality is superb, flawless finishes and man, can they sing! And the 2012 - current models have Custom Shop pups in them! Had a few Jazz basses over the years and then moved almost completely to Precisions only. Got lucky last year in a trade and ended up with a 2011 Am Std Jazz and overall, I swear it is the best bass I've ever owned. It is stunning to look at, hold and play. It's light, the neck feels perfect and it has so much growl! I imagine if it had the word Sadowsky on the headstock it would easily command three times the price and that seems to be the only difference that I can find find between the two (based on the handful of Sadowsky models I've been lucky enough to try). Who knew Fender could make 'super-Jazz' basses themselves?! I read on another forum recently: "The Jazz is like a sexy young mistress, but you always go back to your loyal wife, the Precision!" don't know what to make of that really. Can't we all just get along... Try some Japanese Jazzes too - there are some great ones out there. Haven't had too much experience with any of the new Squier CV/ZVM Jazz models but i hear they are excellent! Try the marketplace section on this site, won't cost you four zeros...

Anyone A/B'd the older cow paint one v the newer white one? Is there a difference?
  10. At least it wasn't the Southland version of Kiwi (the only real unique kiwi accent) - everything with an R gets four extra R's - eg "You Durrty Flurrt in yourr Purrple worrk shurrt" - it's brilliant! It's like a load of Irish and Scots on valium, so no different from home then... Every day down here is another adventure
  11. Sorted. Current Doubler (Green TRex cable -7quid) sorted the issue. Downside, I now have no space on the FuelTank Jnr for any new 9v pedals I add. Will get a daisy chain. haha
  12.
Invercargill? That's Burt Munro country, isn't it?
The very same! I've given up the Roses of Tralee for the sounds of hoons on their motorbikes on windswept Oreti Beach! haha Chur bro, as the kiwis do often say
  13.
The MIJ jaguar has the 70s spacing, the MIA version I think is 70s but I haven't seen one in the flesh. The squier versions range, since they come in short scald too. Hope that helps. FWIW, I loved my Japanese one, excellent build quality, preamp is a bit crap though.
Love my jJapanese one too. Noticed on the Fender site the Deluxe (CIJ) series Jags have diappeared. Perhaps now they are part of the American Standard series they no loner produce them in Japan
  14. I like the Rascal. I would not say no at this stage. It's got kind of a Jag/Dano vibe about it, which was a mod I had considered making to my Jag. Now I can keep both my Jag and Dano DC intact AND have crazt hybrid styles. Now, to find one in New Zealand and play it... GAS levels rising...
  15. I've got a DC. Took me about 6 years to find one that didnt cost stupid money and it appeared in the local music shop in my adopted home in rural NZ! Typical! If there was a fire, it's what id save first!!! Also keeping my eye out for another - Commie Red would be nice!
  16.
If this is the only pedal you have with more current requirement than your power supply, and you can spare two isolated outputs for it, maybe try a current doubler?
thanks, I will try that this evening (if I have the green doubler cable lying around)
  17. Hi guys, Just took delivery of one of these bad boys. It came with a boss adapter. I have a FuelTank Jnr under my Pedaltrain I was hoping to connect this pedal to. However, before I do, I want to be totally sure this is ok to do. Some limited info on TB suggests that the pedal runs more than the 120Ma offered by each ouplet on the FT Jnr Does anyone own a Qballs or similar sized pedal they run using a multi PSU like Trex or Voodoo labs etc? Cheers Colin
  18. Hi all, A while back I happened across a rather nice 51 RI Precision on Ishibashi. It needed a bit of work but looked quite tidy. It also came with a rather fetching brown leather (or leather looking) Fender gig bag which I've never seen before and am having trouble finding on Google! Anyway, I didn't get the bass in the end. BUT a few months back I found a 51 locally with some lovely mods and snapped it up. Thing is, I'd love to track down the gig bag I saw on the Ishibashi site to go with it. Does anyone have a pic or info or even better, one for sale? Cheers Colin
  19.
There was a Deluxe model with 5 knobs iirc, but I think it had a humbucker at the bridge.
+1
Lives in Japan but only posts to the US? Seems legit...
Also +1 The Deluxe version had a humbucker in the bridge and 5 knobs. I never saw a Deluxe that wasn't that boring dark wood finish (not saying they don't exist, just never seen one) I seem to recall seeing somewhere (a long time ago, when I had my Lyte) that there may have been a very short-lived Lyte Deluxe just badged as Lyte with a jazz pickup and 5 knobs but whether that is true or not... The input jack may well have been changed as almost all of the factory ones were cheap and poorly soldered - I know about 4 or 5 Lyte owners (one of whom has several and plays them exclusively) and all bar one have had them replaced.
  20.
I think the OP is implying that the seller of this T-bird is asking a silly high price, and the only possible justification for doing so would be that he is labouring under the misconception that the bass is somehow a "vintage" - and therefore worth more than it really is... Or that's my interpretation, anyway...
That was my main point really.
  21. Is that a new pg as well? Have you totally removed the tone pot with everything all the way up? It looks mean!
  22.
Good evening, Col... I'm not sure of the utility of comparing London prices with those practised locally in New Zealand. I have regular contacts with collectors in Australia, and the prices we see are very different from those elsewhere. Not sure this helps much, either...
Bonsoir! Good equipment and gear is harder to find down here, but it shouldn't be THAT expensive. Most of the collection I've built since arriving here has been reasonably well priced and stacks up with the prices on offer at home... I think there are chancers and bludgers everywhere! haha
  23.
Hi Col, Personally I'd ask the bloke what he's smoking! £2K for a 90s TBird is HUGE money! Not even 70s Ps are going for that much in good condition! I'd steer well clear personally. It's not mint, it's not the colour you prefer and it's up for huge money!
I'm definitely thinking he's on something...
