1. I have used that tuning with Billy Sheehan sig strings, fairly well. The 110 E keeps decent tension down to D, and the 43 G tunes up well. I know Alexander Hacke (of Einstürzende Neubauten) uses DADA on his Thunderbird. He looks like he uses a medium gauge set of Rotosounds...
 2.
after being in a death metal band, i've moved onto hardcore pop/rock bands and now im playing jazz and big band songs after all this, i've decided to form my own band, where i have 2 bass players, me doing high end riffs while the other bassist is holding the foundations. i've got poppy elements with jazzy chords and hard rock riffs Great combination of stuff and really enjoying it! one of our songs is available on facebook, but its a poor quality as im not great at mixing http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Nazca...149906245040894 like us!
A sort of poppier jazzier Ned's Atomic Dustbin!
 3.
Pure Post-Rock with a string section, 2 guitars, bass and a ton of reverb and delay pedals. Songs would all be 12 minutes long minimum and most would just have one crescendo that is built up to for the first two thirds of the track. LOADS of tremolo guitar playing (reverb essential).
Sounds like a band I'd join! I'm trying to get a few mates off their arses and form a grindcore/ drone/ noise/ post rock band; Drums, drum machines, synths, bass, guitars, noise stuff etc. No one member is stuck playing one instrument for a gig, semi structured songs that allow improvisation. A sort of God Is An Astronaut / Godflesh / Red Sparowes / Merzbow mix.
 4.
The trick that worked for me was playing lots. That gave me nice hard tips and I haven't had any problems for the last umpteen years.
My dad used to suggest soaking finger tips in surgical spirit, but I found playing bass a lot worked best as well.
 5.
flat rounds round wounds, is this to a personal preference?
For years I hardly used my Squire P, I just couldn't get on with it. Tried loads of different stings and set ups but nothing really worked. Then I realised all the strings had been rounds, so I gave flats a try. Didn't know which brand to try, but as I'm a big Steve Harris fan I thought I'd give his sig Rotos a try. The bass came alive once I'd set the action, I enjoyed playing it so much I ordered a Fender P within a couple of weeks. I still use round wounds on my other 4 strings (except the fretless, of course) and my 5 string. But for my P basses I doubt I'll use rounds again.
 6.
I've often wondered the same. If they are the same string as the Jazz 77, then he must have huge hand strength!
I've just emailed Rotosound, lets see if they reply with anything.
 7.
ps, doesn't Steve Harris use EMG pickups on his?
Seymour Duncan SPB-1s I think... That's what's on the Sig bass anyway
 8. Yeah, I'd rather not have lessons from him...
 9.
Unfortunately trying is no longer applicable, ISIS called it a day in june. I'd have given a kidney to be at their final show. They did support tool on one tour as I recall.
Yeah, I'd forgotten about them splitting
always liked Neurosis though (@bartelby) -still have their first l.p. pain of mind on vinyl..desert island disc.
I really like Neurosis and their alterego Tribes of Neurot.
 10. The Steve Harris Rotos are fantastic strings, I use them on my 80s Squire P and, of course, on my Steve Harris Sig. P. They're really easy to play, even close to the bridge. I've perviously asked about the difference between the SH77s and the Jazz 77 and no-one has ever answered (or I haven't noticed they've answered). I have a feeling it's just the silk winding colour.
 11.
that is one awesomely hypnotic and disturbing video. like it.
They seem to be trying to be a darker more twisted version of TOOL both musically and visually. I really like it.
 12.
Clutch: Robot Hive/Exodus.
Their last great album! I'm currently listening to/watching
 13.
that type of thing is exactly why punk was invented, god is there anything more boring than a bass or drum solo
Matt Freeman is good at what he does, but I do agree with you.
 14. Speedo (ex Rocket From The Crypt) told my old band we were one of the most entertaining support bands he'd witnessed in a long time after we'd supported Hot Snakes. A few weeks later Lars Frederiksen totally failed to even acknowledge our existence when we opened for Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards...
 15.
i made a bass for my a-level,
I wanted to make a bass but my teachers wouldn't allow me to do it, They said it was way too common and more gcse level! It really f'ed me off as 1/2 the class were making chairs or tables! I then switched to designing a bass amp with some built in effects, but I ended up basically dropping the class as I had absolutely no support from the teachers. I think both ideas were way beyond their knowledge. It still winds me 20 years later...

 17. I've got a few different makes on different basses: P basses - Steve Harris Sig Rotos Fretless - Overwater flats 5 String - D' Addarios other 4 string basses - Billy Sheehan sig Rotos. Whilst I'm here, does anyone know what's different between the Steve Harris Rotos and the Jazz Bass 77s? Both are flatwound and both are 45 - 75 - 95 - 110 guages, is it just the silk winding colours?
 18.
this is still killer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yioVmqlt2Fk&NR=1
I do like slap bass but I got bored after 45 seconds...
 19.
Assume it's ok to have a music stand, just for reminders?
I have a terrible memory so I have a book with all the chords for the songs written in it. I then write the chords next to the songs on the set list. I had a 3 year break from gigging and I'm so glad to be back doing it. Hope it all goes well and you enjoy yourself, which is the important bit.
 20. His other items are pretty nice too, especially the analog synths...

 22. If I had the money (and the room) I'd have this. I've always wanted one of these cabs
 23.
count me out - I've always despised that band , horrible songs, horrible image , horrible tone , horrible .........everything
That pretty much sums up my feelings too...
 24. I got 6 cheapish ones from hong kong off ebay. About £15 for the lot inc shipping. They've been up about a year and none of my basses have fallen off the wall... yet.
