1. It's a bit crap in Newport these days. 4 or 5 years ago there were 7 or 8 venues that regularly had live band nights. Now there's 2 or 3, the others have closed down. Back when there were lots of venues they seemed to manage to not have nights of somilar music clashing, or some would have bands early in the evening and others later, so people would go to both places. Now you'll get all the bands trying to play Friday or Saturday night leading to each venue having about 30 people in. Not many, nonlocal, bands play here anymore so the chance of supporting bigger bands it pretty much nonexistent. Plus playing in an originals band pays bugger all, but there's no call for covers only bands.
 2. Ooh! That looks interesting...
 3.
I think as well it says somewhere instrument cases aren't covered if they are the outer packaging.
You're correct, it's the first thing on the list...
 4.
Well, after reading both threads in full I think the one who should be paying out is Parcelforce.
You won't get anything from them. Items we exclude from compensation 6th item under Fragile: "Musical instruments – no enhanced compensation is available" So you could get a max of £200 (if it was an express service), but they'd just say the packaging was insufficient.
 5. What size? 2mm white but the shape may be a problem 3 mm leds - loads of colours and cheap.
 6.
Thanks gents. I am just cutting a big hole in the scratchplate and have written Sue Ryder in permanent marker on the headstock. Should go in minutes
ok. Make it £60 too and I'll have it!
 7.
Stick a Sue Ryder neck on it (preferably maple). It will inevitably sell in minutes, then sell the buyer the original neck to fix the problems of the Ryder neck.
You say that but if it had a maple fretboard (not a Ryder neck though) I'd have it...

 10.
My lack of money is how i started look at warmoth haha! I'll keep looking around man! Your a Spanner -> The works! haha
I've got a quote from Shuker for a fairly basic PJ bass, I also costed up a Warmoth that was similar (spec wise). The Warmoth was around 1/2 the cost, "great!" I thought, but that was before vat/duties/shipping. Add all that in and the difference drops to a couple of hundred quid. I know where I'd spend the money.
 11. I like it like that!! Add a Badass II and a jazz pickup, remove ashtrays and that's what my next bass will be. Black/chrome/maple...
 12.
In the vid Billy says the Fender P is the greatest bass ever made. So no point buying his Yamaha then?
At least he's honest. Maybe he just means this Fender P
 13.
I would only ever do it if I could replicate the neck dimensions of something that already exists that I loved the feel of. The neck is the most important thing. The rest is pretty much easy to sort.
I totally agree with you. I costed up a Warmoth P/J and it came to 1/2 the cost of a Shuker (excl. shipping and duties), but it wouldn't have a neck that I want. So the question for me is; Is getting a custom bass that's EXACTLY what I want worth double the cost of something that's close? I shall spend the next few months deciding...
 14.
The angled bolts were quite interesting. Although I wonder why he doesn't just go neck thru if it's that big a deal to him.
Maybe it's to keep the cost down...
 15. I'm just weighing up the pros and cons of a custom bass at the moment. There is a chance that if you get a bass that's different to what you're used to playing you may not like it. I think I'm right in saying Dood's 6 string headless Shuker is a thru-neck. As to the woods, I have no idea really. I think harder woods produce brighter sounding basses, of course this could be way off. Personally I'm looking at getting a simple 4 string black P/J with a chrome scratchplate and a maple fretboard, with a neck profile the same as my Steve Harris Fender. The price Jon Shuker has given me is only a tiny amount more than a Fender Deluxe, so for me it's a bit of a no brainer.

 18. Have you considered Overwater strings? http://www.overwaterbasses.com/index.php/buy-strings-online But it's best to phone them...
 19. I was offered a choice at my gig on Saturday night. DI from the amp or the Sansamp or a mic'd cab. Due to a small stage I opted for DI'ing from the head. I didn't want to be knocking over a mic or have an extra cable trailing across the stage. The sound guy was happy for any of the options.
 20. I wish I had the money, I've been after one of these for years!
