1. Again, not the wife, but the sister in law got me the following books:
  2.
anyone else treating themselves this christmas?
Yes, to an NS Design NXT4 EUB. I pick it up on Tuesday! I'm getting excited about it!
  3.
Seriously, though, does anyone find this a good bass sound? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K57w9pdJPnY
Not played like that. But I still want one...
  4. I sold mine on here for £350, seems like a bargain now!
  5. I haven't used them for a few years but aren't Ernie Ball strings unwrapped.
  6.
It's on our future development list. I'd really like to do it in the original P style with the big black pickguard and sharper edges.
That would be perfect!!
  7. Makes you wonder how many 16-26 year olds would pass the credit check. Or maybe that's the point.
  8.
Dan The scheme is being changed - as of April/May 2011 the scheme will only be available for 16 - 26 year olds. So you old gits need to get a shake on if you want to use it! Mark
Bugger!
  9.
All Hail The TAKE IT HOME deal
Yeah, used that to buy an NS Design EUB. Have a feeling in 10 months I'll be using it again. If it still exists
  10. Cheers for the recommendations BassBus. Any recommendation for DB strings?
  11. I had a pleasant enough conversation with Mark on the phone yesterday. I did get the impression he's a little stressed by the situation with sending out orders at the moment. Probably the busiest time of the year compounded by the weather delaying stuff. Good luck with all that Mark! Have a good christmas. Hopefully I'll see you next week!
  12.
Nothing to be nervous about, get stuck in and enjoy
Actually, I think I'm more worried the weather will be crap and I won't be able to pick it up. Looking at long range forecasts I should be ok!
I was planning to do exact same thing... only waiting to get rid of my Jack Casady, hope they got more than one in stock...
I think Mark is out of the 4 string ones for now. He had a black one and the amber one listed, but when I emailed he said the amber was the only one left.
I changed the strings for a DB set which sound a bit better and feel much better, but I don't think this is necessary. Be careful though, my next move was to proper double bass and this is deep into the Bermuda Triangle with dodgy GPS. Nigel
I've been looking at other strings, but I think they can wait for a while. At least until I'm used to playing an upright. I would have preferred a double bass but the sheer size of them is what made me go for an EUB. I'd need to move to a bigger house in order to have a DB.
  13.
I think some signature strings like Billy Sheehan's have a heavier guage E because he uses a D tuner.
Yep, they have a 110 gauge E (as opposed to a 105).
  14. I've been wanting a EUB for a long time now. So I decided to take advantage of the Take It Away scheme and ordered an amber burst NXT4 from Bass Direct. Weather permitting I pick it up from the shop on the 28th December! I can't wait, but I'm also a little nervous. I've only ever played electric bass before.
  15.
Seeing the top on your bass almost made me go for an ebony top for my 7 string. The simple look of the wood is very elegant.
I'm planning to get a custom bass in a year or two, one of my ideas was black with a maple fretboard. But seeing that ebony with sycamore has given me other ideas! Great looking bass obbm!
  16.
If you really want to have a go yourself try this book Repair & Setup of Double Bass. It's rather more money now than when I bought mine but you could probably ask your local library to get hold of it.
You might be able to get it for 1/2 that price here

    frets

Of course, if the fretboard is a bit battered anyway then go for it. Like I did to a Warwick.
  18.
And here was me thinking this would be about the Public Image Ltd classic!
You're not the only one!
  19. I got it for free when it first came out. It's handy having a back up for the pedal... EDIT: I like the blue/yellow colour set!
  20.
And the tone!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!?!! Just the tone of his bass on it's own gets my head spinning.
IIRC he uses Marshall guitar amp heads. doesn't he? 0+2=1 is one of my favourite albums.
