1. As for the influence, Mr. Truheeo was the factor I've started using 5-strings. And playing his solos in Metallica's coverband too
2. Last night annual biker-club's fest near capital Vilnius, at recreation complex with my rock/pop covers' band. Temperature was about -4C, and what we did not expect was to play in open-air.. :brow: Well, it wasn't that open-air, it was in sorta wooden tent with two huge warmers turned directly to stage, but during soundcheck and the start of the set it was f_ckin' cold - it was the very first time I've faced with such nightmare as cold bass strings - it's, I think, even worse than cold hands.. But, those punters were lively and soon everyone by the stage got stirred up (can you imagine solid bikers dancing in front of each other by Garry Moore? ) Sound onstage wasn't very good - too much guitar in monitors and probably no bass at all (except the drummer's monitor), even though I've asked enginner's to pump some more bass, but, no luck.. Anyway, crowd was good, gig also wasn't bad, got some decent money and had a good night with folks from band.
3.
is it just me or does it look like Anthony Jackson has tiny hands?
You're right with this, mate..
4. it's Foookin' messy situation, isn't it... From one point, I must call them, because I've gotta get clear about the situation - finally, are they interested in my candidacy anymore (ok, let's say, they were before, at least..) From another one, I can't simply lift such ignorance - it cannot be the way serious managment works, can it? It is they, who now have to call me, but I can't simply wait just like that. I think, I'll try my best tommorow, but I feel, I'm just starting getting sick of this. Sorry, I had to tell this. Faith
5. To be honest, I don't think it's possible.. anyway, I've checked through Google, if this thread could be reached by keywords - even with such key as "basschat" I could find simply nothing.
6. So, the story goes... I've e-mailed their managment with intention to audition for their band. Gave 'em my own web's adress and stuff, mentioned that my tutor (who, by the way, is helping them occasionally) could give some feedback about me. That was done three days before Christmas. No answer for two days. Then, one day till Christmas I've called their managment and mannerly asked if they got my e-mail. Mag said "oh yes, I've also re-sended it to all band membs, we now know about ya".. The conversation in general was quite nice, she promised to call me after New Year. OK. And now, nine days after New Year, no message from 'em. I've e-mailed 'em again, two days ago, mentioning what songs I've learned during holidays and asking if they would be OK for audition, also mannerly expressing wish to meet, when they are able. Guess what? Oh yes, no answer again. What's F_CKING sad, that I've: 1. Spent my holidays (New Year's night also..) trying to nail the songs in and out, despite my aching picking hand, and, all in all, situation is just LIKE THIS. 2. Not prepared my apply to abroad universities yet, just because of lack of time (nailing the songs) and hope, that'd stay in home for a while, playing with them. Well, ok, learning songs (despite aches and stuff..) and not applying for abroad studies was my choice and fault, but I think it's not fair to act like this for them. Or is it just me? I just dunno what to do now, and I'm starting to be very dissapointed about all this.. So, what, Call them again? Wait? Or tell 'em "f_ck you, I'm going out abroad to study"? If you're reading this at this point, you must have some suggestions to me.. BTW, I've called my tutor few days ago, in an intention to meet, and also asked, if they've called them to talk about me. You're right again, he didn't get any goddamn call.
7. Oh, f_ck, we're starting this one again... I'm off, sorry.
8. Anyway, it doesn't work with active basses... I had one with it a while ago(isn't it called Silencer?), now it's sold to guitard mate..
9. What's the point? Never got heard about basses sounding better/worse just because of number of strings issue...
10. Just re-sended all this stuff to my friend, hope, this helps Cheers everyone, Knew, I could rely on BC Faith. BTW, I think, it's quite frequent questie, and, hard-to-find- via search (for me it was, anyway..), so maybe we should make this sticky? All in all, it covers not only going from EADG to BEAD, but, tuning change in general, so that's the point, i think..
11. Sorry, if this has been asked before, I simply couldn't find it via search, so here's the thing... Bass is Cort C4, tuned standartly from E to G, but mate wants it tuned from B to D... He's planning to use Warwick Darklord strings (65-85-105-135). He doubts, if the standart nut is going to 'accept' such heavy strings.. He also doubted about tuners' and bridge's stability - what about that also? I've never had any bussiness with it, and couldn't comment about all this, so, I hope, you guys would help us.. Cheers, Faith.
12. About 5 minutes waiting (not bad internet, actually..), but nothing... Think, I'm gonna skip it this time..
13.
What is hip? - Tower of power Been messin about with the marcus miller version which is fun but i prefer the original
Few days ago I've ran through Francis Rocco Prestia's video school - despite his technique it made me to go back 'to the roots' - remember stuff about picking fingers articulation and 'diggin' in'.. I'll have to try What Is Hip? sometime - great 'excercise' for articulation, no doubt
14. Noirpunk, maybe a stupide questie, but are you allowed to change such stuff like pups on your 'endorsement' bass?
15. IN Ibanez GSR205BK Ashdown MAG rig (600 head n 410 cab) Line6 POD XT Live OUT Errr, nothing, i believe... Except, maybe, Laney RB8.. But, does Laney count anyway? Oh, and I've just started GAS'sing for 5-string fretless... Too bad here, in Lituano, that I'm 5-string lover and demander..
16. Oh, and my first bassline was by Skamp - Music (We love), the one I'm doing for audition... Seems pretty easy one, but the main groove, that goes during verses and choruses is quite tricky, believe me... Here's band's-made 10 year anniversary video with this song.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isNaGVzwdf8
17. Must add, that you've made a f_cking right decision about choosing Ibby, mate
18. Preparing for audition... I know 3 and 1/2 tunes so far... It's not much (but maybe, enough? I mean 4, it will be soon..), but heeey, I want to 'beat' them to death My hands hurt, damnit...
19. Praise you, friends! Thanks sooo much again, Faith.
20. Do you really think that I tread bass studies as a 'don't mind'? If so, this one's incorrect, mate
21. Playing tips on pg 8 was a kickass one
22. Thanks sooo much for opinions, chaps, I knew, I could rely on Basschat All the best, Faith. P.S. it doesn't mean it's decided and finished - keep it coming! Btw, I'll, no doubt, report about how the audition went!
23. Actually, they have been very successful a few years ago (err, actually five, or so), but, due to some band leaders' problems, they've went into 'underground' a bit, doing some others projects, buut, now, reunited, and introduced a new album a few weeks before. It's kinda hard to answer, cuz actually they have quite big fanbase, but, on the other hand, it's a bit of doubt if they'll ever be that popular as they were.. Because they're now denying any TV shows and stuff, though, gigging in other countries and stuff.. Lastly, if they're not 'potential enough', they however could be a bridge for me into more serious stuff, cuz people here know what is this band. Did I answer your questie, mate? Faith
24. In a week, or so, I'll be auditioning for one of most best (in musical way) lithuanian pop (pop/hip-hop/fusion stuff actually) bands... They're looking for permanent bassist, and, the problem is, that I'm maybe going away to some academy/uni in UK next September to study bass. What I fear is, if I would mention this (about going away) to them, they probably could decline my 'candidacy', as there are plenty other good bassists in capital, as I suppose.. (btw, I am from other city, about an hour road..) When their band member mentioned that they're searching for new bassplayer, I've contacted their management myself and asked to audition - it seemed to me, that I was the only one so far (that was just before Christmas). I'm really looking forward to the audition, cuz I like their music so much, and also would like to try myself in pop scene (if anyones here remembers, my last try failed, but that wasn't my fault anyway..), buuut, I dunno if I should mention the thing about my studies in the audition... Even worse, I am not actually sure at the moment, if I'd be able to study in UK, due to financial reasons, so it becomes even more messy.. Daaah What do ya think, guys, I should do - mention it Now, or later (for eg., in June - ooooh, you see I've got an offer from academy XXX...) Or shouldn't I even audition? Cheers, Faith.
25. I haven't posted a thing yet, as I'm a 'guest' there, but, what I like there especially (and, altogether, what I feel, Basschat is a bit lack of..), is 'Bassists' section. Of course, there's a lotta crap, but, also, there are many great threads about great musicians discussed, and their youtube video stuff. I couldn't find any other sections worth attention, well, to mention, maybe a few artists' sections, for e.g. Janek Gwizdala, and so on. For those, who don't know, in those sections you can post questions, discuss things with bassists like Janek, and so on..
