Ah, now I dig it, it was encore songs, so, no big surprise there.. I'll get my coat, if you don't mind.
-
I was just watching live version of Belief via Youtube, and couldn't still find the difference in bassparts.. I must be missing something there.. Until now I couldn't even imagine, the song was performed by two bassists. At last, the hell for?
-
Two bass players performed on a song???
-
Yeah, you are, indeed... I meant, when 'taking' some basspart by ear, especially when bass lacks definition, method, that helps and works for me is to put the track octave or two higher - it's waaay easier to hear the bass, and such things as vocals or guitars doesn't interrupt that much then, also.. Am I clear now, mate?
-
But, as I suppose, ya don't feel any octaver there, ye, mate?
-
As far as I know, the last time,he used octaver was long time ago - when he played with Paul Young, and banged on his fretless MusicMan..

Is Pino using some sort of octaver on 'Where The Light Is' DVD? I'm digging into Mayer's Belief, live version, and I'm a bit confused, because sometimes it sounds like octaver, and it baffles me, cuz, for e.g., it sounds like he drops from high E to octave lower D just from nowhere.. Or is it just me? Cheers, Faith.

At the moment I'm digging into Mayer's - Belief (that's the pre-last song on Where The Light is DVD).. Question - is Pino using some sort of octaver there? Cuz I'm a bit confused - it sounds like he's playing octaves sometimes and, at the end, dropping in the main function octave lower, just from nowhere.. Or my ears are simply tired enough. But I doubt it. So, guys? Cheers, Faith.

Benzies, I've got SR1005, if it does the trick... B string is quite good sounding (erm, at least for my ear), neck feels like going-thru-butter, huge variety of tones (oh, just adjust the Mid Frequency knob a bit - plenty of different basses you got there, mate.. ). I can't tell, if it sounds too middy (as people sometimes mention, they do), it just sounds punchy to my ear. Neck thru, rosewood fingerboard, heavy strings (you add 'em yourself, of course..) - it all gives warmth, sustain, punch. The only thing that dissappointed me was knobs - Treble/Bass knobs broke down after a few months (my Ibby was brand new then), and you can't properly adjust them without pre-amp turning on and off.. But it's not very bad at the end. In my opinion, it's more like 'team-work' instrument, rather than 'solo, steping-out' thingy. You know, what I mean.. Hope this helps cheers Faith

Some models look very Ibanez'zy But, 7-string one weighs 5,5kg's. Is this normal?

Ok, so, at the moment I'm digging at the Latino music, especially Salsa via my Bass Bible by Paul Westwood. What players would you recommend me to look at and nail out their parts, I mean trancribe their songs(by ear, of course)? I don't need any hard stuff for the beginning. Suggestions welcome. BTW, I'm looking for some free-soft programme with some Latino and Funk style beats (drum patterns) - anyone could recommend decent one?

For me, it depends on music, actually. When I started playing, I used to do that 'rockNroll' thing, when it comes to straps. But, then again, I was playing in Metallica coverband, so, I simply had to rockNroll. Tallica stuff wasn't that problematic - I've took a manner from mr. Trujillo - hard parts/playing in the middle, or high-up the neck are played with my leg on monitor (or such), and bass on my knee - perfect, gotta say! But, when I've joined my new band (covers and original program, mainly rock/metal related), and, when I couldn't decently play Bon Jovi stuff a la rockNroll style (left hand pain was also the problem..), then I put my bass high. gotta admit, putting it high wasn't only because of comfort and playability reasons (though, that's the main thing) - other players' influence, I'm interested in at the moment, did his job here too.. Though, if you still want to rockNroll, watch some Mr. Trujillo - he knows how to play and act good at the same time Orion Watch it from 3:35, you'll get my mind..

That's what I was thinking about.. Anyway, I'll give this job to do for my gu1tard, he's a hell of technician.. Thanks for responses, guys, I'll give a shout about how it's going! Faith

Just changed battery with new Duracell. Farting didn't dissappear. I just don't know what to do now. It just p1sses me off. Anyway, why would I need to turn my vol from bass, if I have never had any problems with it? I'll try different cables, maybe, but I simply know, problem's not there..
-
Nice, but shouldn't this be in OffTopic section? (runs for cover)

Beautiful music. Though, I won't dig into those 'is he bassplayer or guitard or whatever' - there's no point in it.
Your best bet is runnig the PODxt Live's output into the Aphexs input, and then from the Aphex's output to the input of the amp.
Hey but, then, if so connected, is the signal, for example, compressed (comp by Lin6..) before it reaches Aphex Xciter, or after?
-
So, it's about sound issues.. Not that long ago my sound coloured with some unwanted drive, actually it's like - when battery drains out (my both Ibbies are active), it starts driving. That drive is noticeable only on E and B strings (B especially). Remind you once more, problem exists in both instruments. I thought it was my little practice amp's fault, but, then again, when I've plugged my basses into Line6 POD XT Live (through headphones), problem remained the same! I've brought my amp to the shop (to try it with different basses) - you couldn't tell there was sorta drive! The problem isn't with the batteries - both Ibbies are equipped with Duracell's, and I've re-equipped 'em just a few months ago. It's also doesn't have to do anything with cables. To add more, I'm using same basses with same cables and FX units in studio, and there's no problem with drive (using Ashdown rig in studio..).. Well, not that long ago I've re- equipped my basses with heavier strings 50-135, but I don't think, that's the problem - drive appeared before re-stringing basses (if my mind's OK..) I just don't have ideas, where that drive is coming from..

Why are those Thumbs so heavy? Sorry, but, hey that's me...
To me there are no rules, go with your gut feeling. However, personally I would always suggest a beginner to start on a 4 stringer. Get the bassics right on that ...
Oh yes, there are no rules, as there's no rule 'for a beginner to start with 4stringer'. There are decent pdf or video schools, like "Steve Bailey's 5 String Bass", and it also can be taken 'as orientated' to beginners. The reason, why I'm suggesting fiver, is that the approach to 4stringer and 5stringer is waaaay different, so, if'd start on 4, and, after some take, take 5er, you'll have to start it all over, if you want to take benefits, that 5stringer gives.

Good Enough Bass Player for Metallica?
Faithless replied to WHUFC BASS's topic in General Discussion
the best part of that dvd was when i finished. I never looked at metallica the same again. so cringe worthy! i guess when your a kid and your watching a film about your childhood heroes and find out they are just "real/normal" people that are making a bit of money, lets you down abit. love the guy though, great player. Infectious grooves win.
Were you 'a kid', when you watched SKOM, Agoulding? But, the thing, I don't get - what are they supposed to be then, rather than 'everyday normal' guys? For me, documentaries like this simply shows the real side of things, SKOM is not an exeption, and, though 'Tallica were always heroes for me, it didn't force me to abandon them. BTW, watch this, you'll get my mind about 'everyday normal' guy -

I know this vid (SKOM) to death, but there's one thing, that I don't get even till now.. Well, maybe that's the same track, that they've put on video, but, give a deeper listen during For Whom the Bell Tolls - probably all bassists except Trujillo seem out of tune, when playing that intro step-out, don't they?.. And, another thing - to answer the question, why Robert seemed so relaxed and unstrained compared to others - night before his take in audition, they've been drinking with Lars and whole crew, and he slept for only few hours. Then, in the morning - audition. Robert later pointed, that he was so buzzed and tired in the morning, that he didn't feel any 'tension', when playing with Metallica itself, that's why he got his first shot good and looked chilled (it is he, who said it). To add more, he knew only a few songs, from mind btw, those were Battery and Hit The Lights. -
Gorgeous vid. By the way, has Pino made any records with D. Miller?
