1.
Only problems is that with the coloured strings the coating tends to flake a tad...
What do you mean by that? Coating goes of quickly? If so, I've got to add, I don't use pick at all, only tight figerstyle (a lot), and some slap, but coating was the main thing I wanted to try DR's, but when Happy Jack mentioned, that they're rougher than Rotos (rounds??? I won't buy them in my life anymore - hated their roughness!), I think, I'll forget it about DR's, and will ask for a set of Elixirs in a shop..
2. Ok, signature is signature, but, I think, when a company/luther is making an instrument for an artist(endorser, whatever..), it's the artist, who chooses, what his instrument should be like(shape, number of strings, whatever..), but not the company, that chooses a body shape for an artist, right?
3. Sorry, but (I've just realised it.. ) I simply don't get Steve - as he's playing sooo much in high register of bass, at the end of the neck, of course, i mean, the Dusty End, he even has to bring his fretting hand thumb 'in the front' (for reaching notes, I believe..), so the question is: Why the f*ck he is using that goddamn Jazz shape??? Is it (shape)incorporated in his 'vision of the bass', or is it just me? I just don't get it...
4. Not bad, but I prefer this video, when it comes to Mr. David Haynes - real drums, I like 'em so much more!
5. BTW, for me, HK's look very similar to this..
6. Well, I actually like it tight, but, compared to my other bass, I know, that the tension on my SR could be a bit lighter/lower.. Interesting thing - Paul_C advised me just opposite - lighter strings.. And, you kno', at the moment I'm using 50-135, and you could hardly get even thicker strings, well, at least, I couldn't..
7. Yeah, mate, I'm also waiting for your review, as I'm thinking about not-that-expensive 6-string, fretless, actually..
8. Well, dunno, if it'd be the best variant, as, aside from pop stuff (where I need that sound from Bridge pup, sadly..), I'm playing in a rock band, even in A tuning sometimes (instead of low B, i mean), so, the heavier - the better, but.. Thinking of trying DR Black Beauties 45-125, as Ernie Balls go dead quite fast, so, maybe DR's will help in terms of tension also..
9. I thought, I'd pop here in, as I have a problem with my Ibby.. It's about string tension and MR-IV bridge on my SR1005 Prestige.. Well, I've started playing on bridge pup a la Jaco style (heavy diggin' in), and I feel that string tension by the bridge pup is just too high/heavy - it's not comfortable at all, if you try to 'dig in'... So, I was curious, if there's any way to lower the string tension? My Ibby has MR-IV bridge (if it does make sense)..

11. Thanks for your input, guys Well, at the end, I wasn't preparing to buy it, as I have no serious interest in MM's at all, actually, but, simply, it looked a bit pity to me for him, as he was trying to sell his MM for about half-year now, probably.. Shame, that here our musos are more interested in cheapish stuff, rather than something serious..
12. Sorry for interfering, but I didn't want to make a new thread about MM's, as it's quite a short question.. A chap in local area is selling his Musicman Piezo 5 (Stingray, I believe??), and he now asks for about 730 pounds. At the beginning the price was about twice as much - ~1400 pounds.. So, what about this - is this a bargain now, or his hopes are just too high? Cheers, Faith..
13. If remember correctly, at the beginning of each video a key is given (written).. Just take a look at the vid, mate Cheers, Faith.
14. ARGH, Baltic States? So, maybe you're coming into Lithuania then.. If so, (and, not to forget, you're a rockband, right?), you've been probably offered a gig in "Muse" music club, in capital Vilnius? It'd be a pleasure to hear and see a fellow Basschater..
15. Mmmmm, very Lakland'elesque...
16. Ah, spotted this on Talkbass a while ago. I'm not very much into Incubus (though, got nothing against them..), so, it was first time, I saw their ex-bassist, but, gotta say, I was quite impressed with Dirk's playin'. BTW, that tune, which Dirk is recordin' on, is just legendary.. Lyrics - "Sing, like you're dangerous".. Epic.
17. Oh, about that EBS thing.. I've tried it yesterday in a shop - have to say, it's sounds pretty decently, though, his flat tone isn't as mellow sounding as my old Trace, maybe, but, there's nothing you can't do with a bit of EQ, right? The only thing that I disliked, was that handle under the amp - I thought it would lift amp's front quite a bit higher, but, that's ok anyway..
18. I've just spotted this on Talkbass.. There's a bit of advertising at the beginning, but, it dissappears after a while, so, let it be.. Groove is just worth to see.. As I've mentioned, it's John Powell on bass, and David Haynes on drums (Prince). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xahowfre4gg...re=channel_page
19. Thanks for your thoughts, EBS_Freak But, guys, is it all?.. I've got a pile of gigs waitin' a few weeks later, so, would like to sort this EBS question as fast as possible.. Keep it comin'! Cheers, Faith..
20. So, the thing is, that I've started to play actively in one pop project, and other one is [probably] incoming very soon, so, for 'pop' stuff I am using my Trace Elliot Commando 15, due to 1x15 speaker, giving a lotta warmth and bottom end, which pop stuff simply needs.. It has 1x15 speaker, 150w, simple 3-band EQ, and I enjoyed it's tone pretty mutch - in gigs, we've been mic'ing it, bass and amp EQ's were flat, and producer was simply obsessed with my tone, buuuut... Trace weighs 27kg, and, as I quite oftenly have to cope with lugging/carrying it here and there, and, to add more, there's only one handle at the top of the amp, so, in the end, it becomes not comfortable to do all that lugging/carrying stuff.. So, I'm thinking of buying a warm-sounding, able to cut-through in 4-5 piece-band situation, not-that heavy, comfortable (handle issues..), probably 1x15, or 1x12 speaker-in amplifier.. And, as chance would have it, I've spotted new EBS ClassicLine 1x12 amp in my local music shop.. (omg, is it called GAS???) It weighs 18kg, has handles from both sides, simple EQ with a few knobs, 150w, built-in Comp/Limiter and all other stuff.. I haven't tried it so far, but I'll do it tomorrow, probably will bring my old Tracie to compare, and, we'll see how it goes. In the end, I have a few questies for you, chaps.. 1. EBS Drome Classic 1x12 - has anyone had any experience with it, so that could comment a bit about their tone and stuff?.. 2. What about the real wattage of these two amps - EBS and Trace Elliott - they both have 150w 'on paper', but what about that RMS thing - I don't get it at all?.. It's not the problem to me about 'cutting through', as my Ibby is an active beast, but, I just want to know, if there would be a big difference.. 3. This EBS Drome CL, I'm after, in shop oficially costs about 460 pounds (well, it would be a bit lesser for me, but anyway..) - is this an appropriate price for that amp? 4. Don't think, that I'm just dying for that EBS - no no no, I may be looking at other amps also (something not heavy, one speaker, not more that 150-200watts), but I don't know any other variants yet.. I've spotted some Gallien-Krueger stuff in shop also, but I can't tell exact models yet. Anyway, any suggestions are welcome! That's it for now, I'll give my impressions for you to know, when I'll try that EBS, Waitin' for your opinions, chaps! Faith...
21. You should be playin' it, not sellin', mate... )
22. Go for a 5, no worries here, mate..
23. I've tried to get that '5-string'thing- through Steve Bailey's school, but, in long time I realised that his school is good only for technique (first few chapters, to familiarise with B string, first section, large intervals and such..), there are good exercises about coping with jumping a lotta strings, playing clarity and such, but, in a band context it won't give you much benefit.. It feels, like it's kinda more related to solo-bassy-stuff - solo related chords and so on.. As mentioned here before, I've bought 'Berklee Practice Method" bass book, as it's more about the music, but it doesn't actually concentrates on 5 string bass.. So, the biggest problem for me (and it lasts for looong time) is to find a versalite 5-string player, whereof I could learn about accompanying in pop-band context, 5-string using, and such... Just dunno where to look at
24. Yeah, simple stuff, but, at last, that guy (J.Brown) is enjoying it, isn't he... Oh, I'm not saying, that Dave is not!
25. I've just bought 'Berklee Method Electric Bass Studies' book. It attracted me, cuz (it looks) it is more about music, not technique, or other, not actually music-related stuff.. Anyone's into it, maybe graduated it?
