1. Very Jamerson'esque, Bubinga, thanks! P.S. have you checked Philadelphia Experiment?
 2.
Most of my playing and listening life has revolved around funk. That's not to say I don't like other genres, but I just began to realise at an early age that the bass seemed to be the most important element in that type of music. I rarely care about lyrics. To me the song's groove is what draws me. Because of this I tend to automatically syncopate everything, even a rock groove. To me, you are what you listen to (mainly). I just wouldn't sound right in a rock situation.
When discussing with my tutor, we've came to the conclusion that a lot of jazz music is actually funk based. I mean, take Jaco, for example, and listen carefully to his lines. Yes, harmony, used there is jazzy, but, what about the way, they are played. Yes, it is funk. Or, other example, walking bass - for me, there always was some funk-feel between notes, when walking. I just can't describe it otherwise.. So, all in allyou couldn't properly do those lines (for eg. Jaco's), if you wouldn't know, what the funk is, right..? Jazzy-funk, eh? What I want to say, is, that, to my ears, funk (or, in other words, rhythmic importance) is one of main elements for a bassist. In this case, I'm not taking funk as a music genre, actually, it's more about the mood or approach to music.
 3. Am I missing somethin', or your gig was 'declined', Dave?
 4. Does Ken Smith get a little bit more respect for not making 4-stringers..? *Fellow ERB fan hides* Btw, Molan, was it very expensive?
 5. I somehow think, you'll start regreting it after about a month or so.. Last time I've 'left' my bass (holidays and stuff..), I gave thingsup and came back 'to it' after about 5 or 7 days, can't remember properly now. It was a real nightmare. But, then again, there wasn't enough time (2 proper years of playin') for me to become tired of that bass.. In the end, wishing you all the best! Faith.
 6.
James Jamerson's style, technique and creativity might might have come from his brain and his fingers but his tone was all '62 Precision with sky high action, never changed flatwounds and Ampeg Portabass. Great idea for a thread. I hope it doesn't get derailed in the usual BC fashion.
You meant, Ampeg B15, mate? But, when talking about Jamerson, I don't get one thing - some of his lines are really difficult to play, especially those 16-note chromatic passages, and so on, so, how the hell could he managed to play that stuff with one finger and sky-high action, you tell me..? I mean, is this really true, that his bass action was that high, and he played just with one finger? (didn't he, for e.g. use some sort of double-pick tech for fast stuff, a la Doug Wimbish?)
 7. And, I'm curious, what would it be then, Steve?
 8. Is there a real need to quote such a long post just for one sentence, Steve? No offense intended, just a little 'thinkabout'..
 9.
I am not worried about being replaced, its just that I feel that a band should stand or fall together with the emphasis on together I spend countless hours practising, rehearsing, sorting out gigs, travelling to/from gigs etc for this band and I don't like to be made to feel dispensable - I guess it all comes down to whether you view the band as a unit or as a collective
Why the hell you don't just tell them that?
 10.
Well, the dep lives in Birmingham and we are a London band, so its definitely not a back door way to getting a mate into the band. Thats a saving grace at least PS, note childish edit to my signature
I don't get it - if you said, you're 'integral part of the band', why the hell would you worry about it now?
 11. First, I'm glad that there happen to be at least a few people who managed to dig a bit for my point and insisted to discuss all this thing a bit more with me, let it be privately. Now, what was a bit suprising for me, they said, that, at first, it looked (in my 1st post) like I was trying to put down Zoe. For clarity's sake, NO, I wasn't trying to put you down, Zoe! If it looked so for you, I do sincerely apologize. All I wanted was to also 'push' you forward, as others wanted the same (as I assume), but I've done it from, let's say, a bit different way, ok.. Once again, I am really sorry, if my thoughts looked negative, hope, it is all clear now. As for others, if you have any thoughts/questions about all this, feel free to PM me - I'll try to answer as clear, as I can, honestly! That's it for now, as I'm now going to studio (watch it, Silldx !!!) to practice for about another 6 hours.. Cheers everyone! Faithless.
 12.
No "maybe" about it.
Glad, you feel better now, after this.
 13.
I've just come back from three hours of playing. Does that make me half as good as you, or twice as good as you? What is good? What is time? What is playing? What does it all mean? Can we hear your band?
I don't know. It was not about the time, actually. I meant, I'm tired, and I'm maybe talking nonsenses. That's it. Take it easy.
 14.
I'd be chuffed to bits if I thought I could even attempt this one. So credit where credit is due, BRILLIANT. I've listened to the other stuff on your page and as I said before your damn good. I'd ignore the stupid comments, they prob got their fingers trapped in a door or somthing. I think most of us would notice that you're skilled enough to know where you need to 'improve'. Although I didn't notice any errors. Keep on keeping on!
And that 'commentator' somehow noticed those few errors. So, that's what separates you two.. But, anyway, maybe that's, what makes it even more stupid, eh? nevermind< I'm after 6hours of playing, But some people are just so funny
 15.
But remember.. it has to be perfect.. or theres no point..apparently............. Z x
I think, I won't be going into arguing anymore here for now, as there's just a few folks to constructively discuss things to, maybe I'd just wish you best luck and to take 'other' opinions in a bit other way, rather than 'justificating' yourself by 'dear trying', dedication, or whatever that was sometimes.. That's it, Cheers, Faith.
 16. Don't be zany, WoT. Yes, I know, there'd be different reactions. But, it was not about the flames. Simply, there are people, who are just waiting for such situations. Sadly, it doesn't depend on me. Surprised? Take a look at the first line once again, please.
 17. Ok, now we can continue our discussion.. At the beginning, while I'm not going to bother to react to such retarded comments, suggesting crap, like 'leaving this place', calling me retard, imbecile just for expressing my opinion, or asking for 'clarification', if I could nail the song, when I haven't actually compared myself to anyone's, especially, Zoe's capabilities on particular songs or whatever, I'd like to clarify my thoughts a bit, as my thoughts were quite scattered, just because I was in a rush, but couldn't resist to post a bit, let's say, opposite look to the majority.. And, not to forget, my English knowledge wasn't the last subject to act in my first post.
You know, sometimes it just reminds me of those 12-year old kiddies playing Jamiroquai stuff... OK, they KNOW the notes maybe, but they aren't tight at the end (and, with a bit more practice, I think, they could..), but, when, especially, being a bassist, what's the point then?
First of all, when talking about 'kiddies playing Jamiroquai', I was mainly talking about those Youtube-one lads, who publically post half-done songs and then they get the 'best' comments on their playing. But have you ever thought, what could be the outcome of such 'blind stimulation'? No, you didn't. For f*cks sake, haven't you seen enough young musos yet, who, in influence of those 'well-wishers' start claiming themselves Jamersons, Claptons, D.Weckls or whatever, when they actually can't even play one bar in time on 'above-mentioned chaps' songs?.. Ok, maybe it isn't that bad in all situations, but, what I want to say, a lot youngsters (simply, young players, or however you want to call them, FFS..), 'elevated' by futile praisings, stop improving, when there's just the 'beginning of the road' for them(youngsters), I mean, they still have a lot places to cover. THAT IS MY POINT. Not to forget, I AM NOT DEDICATING this exactly to Zoe - I'm trying to look at this problem in general. Also, it is sad, that a lot of folks here can't understand a simple thing, that, maybe the next time you're 'praising' other young player, 'blind' compliments could do nothing more, than the 'shot in the eye' (hope, you got my mind..) Aaaand, when I was saying - 'what is the point of doing it, when it is not more or less perfect', I did not mean not learning/trying it at all, I was more about questioning it, why it is shown publically (Youtube or whatever..) I hope it is clear now. I am sorry, if I insulted anyone, including Clarky and a few other ones - I understand your position, but, I wasn't clear in my first post to the end.. But, as I am not going' to start apologizing to such geezers, like Steeevie, instead of it, we could talk a bit about constructive criticism. Doubly. Firstly, it is about evalution. Whether you're 'praising' it or 'bashing to bits', you are, in some point, criticising it, after all. Now, for about two pages in this thread there was NOT a single comment, where we could find at least a hint to Zoe's timing and phrasing issues. Only 'blind praising', once again. So, what can you, people, talk about such things like improvement, when you actually aren't constructively critising it yourself??? Secondly, critising 'opposite' opinion (mine, in this case), I think, is not calling a person retard, imbecile, dobber or whatever. It is more about plainly explaining, where you do not agree with me. But, then, at a push, some of you are not actually criticising, you are simply not staying your own ground in a discussion. Miserable, what can I more say. Now, at the end, question exactly to Zoe: Can you tell, what was the point recording a song in such tempo (where you can't properly play it at the moment, as we see..), when you could've done it a bit slower (10% or somethin' like that..) and make it with hardly any fluffs? Was it a simple rush or anything else? The interesting fact is, that you will never ever nail any tune properly, if you rush it with tempo. I quit for now, Faith.
 18. I'm about to get bashed for following, but whatever.. But, then again, they get sweetest applauses (Basschat is not an exeption, sorry..), just because of what? Just because they're young and they try to come over the stuff, that normally shouldn't be taken by a kid? You know, I could probably taken one of those Hadrien Feraud's solos, then get it down to the deepest f*ckin' bottom, but, rhythmically and musically (phrasing and stuff), I KNOW I couldn't make it, so, what's the point then? You'd praise me just for trying? Thanks, but I don't need that. Zoe, I'm not trying to offend you - I'm not actually 'dedicating' my rubbish thoughts to you, it's for those well-wishers to think about it a bit more.. I wish you all the best, but, in the end, you know it yourself, that your try needs a bit practice, and you'll nail it. But, not this time. I'm getting my coat, Faith.
 19. Should I take this as an offensive one, Arabassist?
 20. Well, on the other side, I can see, why he is so influential on young bassists - his fingerstyle grooves are, let's say, catchy and challenging enough 'at the beginning'.. Ok ok, maybe McBride's grooves with J.Redman are catchier than Flea's, but, then again, I was talking about the beginning, eh.. But then again, there's a great chance, a young bassist stays with that rock'n'roll Flea's style and we get one more 'musician' in the game, who can't even read a damn note.. Pros and cons there, as you see.. as always.
 21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYmf1LJg8V8...feature=related Here Keith goes!
 22.
And people ask why people think he's one of the worlds top bassists, there's an answer.
Are you serious, mate?
 23.
Hot God-damn! Well, them Eurotrash really screwed the pooch this time! I thought General Jack Pershing killed all these gun-waving Mexican Federales in 1915, but he must have missed a few of them God-damn curry-eating Frogs!! Doesn't this General Franco realise that, if it wasn't for the US, he'd be speaking Jap right now? This kind of brutal official, unofficial free-lance mugging of innocent American citizens innocently employing an innocent dodgy driver WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!! I demand that our Commander-In-Chief, President Obama, despatch the Sixth Fleet to bombard Copenhagen immediately. Send these pasta-eating Berliner sonsabitches to Gitmo!!!! See if they like the food in Africa, yeah? And now I'm hearing rumours that the Spaniards would like Victor back as they'd like to offer him some slapping lessons! WTF?
24.
I can't believe what I read on TB. The EU folks are dishing out facts, and some people (step forward, Jauquowowo XXXXVVVVMMCXX) are choosing to totally ignore it.
Yup, that folk is just gorgeous.. "He has just spoken to Vic", you see... Vic couldn't understand a damn thing about situation too, FFS...
 25. This one is from Talkbass.. Seems that SMV, when on tour, were stopped by Spanish border cops.. This goes from Vic's phone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMAs3VKtRLE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csj4-pD9prI...feature=related One of the most interesting comments I spotted: May I give you non-european guys some basic background info before anyone draws premature conclusions....and gettin all spiced up on the ****ing corrupt europeans or the basque separatist thing. First this incident had nothing to do with the border. Actually there are no borders within Europe between countries that signed the Schengen agreement. This is dated ca. 1985. So there is no such thing like a spanish-french-basque whatever border control! So obviously what happend was, that a regular police check was performed on the bus (checking papers and stuff...) incidentally near the border. Europeans have some strict regulations on commercial / freight traffic especially when it comes to speeding and driving hours of the driver. Each bus/truck is equipped with a tachograph (recording of driving speed and hour). When a bus/truck is pulled over the police requests the tachograph recordings of the last 28 days and can easily fine each violation. What happend is that the bus driver is charged with a working time violation he had past month and he was fined for it € 2,000.00! That´s it! (All this becomes quite clear from the german conversation of the bus driver) Because we europeans consider sleepy bus drivers as one of the highest risk factors for fatal crashes these things are strictly enforced and fined heftily. Actually € 2,000 is quite modest for a over-time violation, they can go up to 10-15k ! So why were they not allowed to continue their travel and go on? - Simply because the bus was under a foreign license (probable german). The spanish authorities will have a hard / next to impossible time to collect the fine once the bus is back in its home country. So it is a very standard procedure that the vehicle is "arrested" (sorry for lack of any better word) until the fine is paid in full. Actually there is no legal basis for foreign authorities to collect money across european borders. Thats why all my holiday tickets get dumped unpaid. The fact that they got an official written receipt makes me almost 100% positive that they just got a regular legit fine. If there is anything fishy about the whole thing then IMHO it can only be the bus driver who tries to rip off SMV crew to make them pay for his own (past) ****-up!
