A lot of people here don't like MarkBass cabs as much as their heads but personally I think they can work very well. Especially when paired with an MB head. The little Traveller 2x10 can sound great if properly used and you can find them for £300. I've also used one with an MB 1x15 and the two together are a great full range combination
I don't usually speak up for Markbass but I'd look at their 210 range for your gig. I'd add Epifani UL 10's as well..and possibly EBS.10's. Aguilar do not make lightweight 10's so would discount them if weight is key...otherwise the DB210 is a great cab A Berg AE210 would also be on the list. I would start with a 210... with a view to adding another should you need to. You are on the right lines..IMO..in going for tone rather than volume. You can always ramp up to with your amp for volume if you have tone..but if you don't have it with a cab..you'll never get it
I buy British stuff because it makes me feel good about myself. With Matamp I know I'm getting a quality product built with care and attention. If it goes wrong, they are always at the end of the phone and I don't think you'd get that elsewhere. For this, I'm prepared to pay a bit more. I own something very individual with a bit of heritage and pedigree. That's about it.
Good move. I tend to extend this thinking to most western economies...not out of a sense of real alliegence, and certainly not the E.U, but because the west needs to keep making stuff.
Ok, but so far the only argument I can think of to buy something "manufactured" in the UK is that the wages go to UK workers. Any other benefits?
That is enough. To keep British trades employed. I am not sure all the componenst can be garaunteed but you would think if someone put a premium on the build process by going hand-wired, for example, then they may keep that committment going by using better made components. If they can be sourced locally, then great. As for cabs...not sure where the speakers are made..???
This will be our first time playing at a wedding but were not crap
Not sure it sounds like you know what the whole deal is... if you want the gig/date, go for £400, if you aren't fussed, £600. You can trim or add depending on the time you will actually have to commit on the gig.. as some peole want the band set up by x..but the music doesn't/can't start until Y..so 3 hours or so sitting around possibly. You may need a dress code..and you may need to provide background music etc etc . If it were me, I'd quote for a set amount of hours on site and 2 x1hrs of music...

Horn Section required for Soul, Motown, R'n'B and Funk covers band
JTUK replied to TheButler's topic in Other Musicians
Can be expensive..we were quoted £350 per gig minimum for a two man section on a saturday. -
Depends on who is building it, of course But you stand a chance of it wiping the floor with your current quiver so you'll need to get rid of them anyway. Get this one in and accustomed to and you'll be on the lookout for another of the same ilk.
Just admit it guys, if we get right to the bottom of it, it's simply down to lack of imagination. Amirite?! Huh?!
..or to turn it around... quite a few original bands I know can't play anything but what they make up...so even if the imagination is good, the technical facilty ma\y not upto it... but...... who would know..???

Wondered where we were going with this until I saw Sheehan's and Harris's styles mentioned. To my mind 3 fingered technique is thumb, 1 and 2... as there is far more variation in it than what Harris does which gets pretty samey pretty quickly with those raging triplet patterns. Billy Sheeham has a whole lot more other stuff going on, and it is a far stronger sound. The problem with the thrid/ring finger is that it can sound weak and awkward, IMO, and even if it doesn't ( ala Sheehan, ) it has nowhere esle to go. But to do it just to mix up your regime, then fine.. but pretty naff for the most part, IMO.

Italia Modulo Tipo 3 - Have you ever seen a more beautiful bass?!
JTUK replied to Samashton12's topic in General Discussion
Don't reckon it has much chance of sounding much better than it looks.. IMO. Too tacky looking............. So, a NO from me... -
I always thought the Fender 3 bolt was prone to this... If it is just the bolts need tightening, then ok..but otherwise, just not good enough, IMO. for a decent priced instrument.
-
I am one for buying British first, if poss. My basses are made in England, but all 3 amps are made in the U.S. Shame, but they are all great amps.

Just put the donation on the price per sale...
Never got Entwistle or his, IMO, terrible terrible tone.
Have to agree...... pretty much unlistenable on most levels.. but...the Who worked as a unit, somehow -
And they have proper handles....
Nothing else currently in the schedule but they often play Bucks Uni short term gigs
Ok...I could probably pop up for one of those... I'll keep my eyes posted. -
If you wanted to put on a show and sell from 150-350 tickets, each town has a venue... most have more than the one option, for sure. The cost of these venues to hire is from about £170 to £2000 plus. and they are in towns who has 3-4 pubs acts per night over the weekend... which is typically fri-sat. At least 2 of those towns have music on a sunday from 1pm-10.30pm...and you wcould rack up seeing 4 bands/acts in that time...should you want to, from a choice of about 7-8

I'd be going, Barrie, if I hadn't had a gig on this date in my diary for ages. I still hope to get to see Paul and Dan if they announce a date closer to Dan's home town. I'll even lend him a bass rig :lol -
Loads and loads of pub gigs round here...too many, in fact, I'd say. All that does is keep the money down and thin the audiences out. If you were ok to drive 30mins, either way from my town... you have your pick of 20-30 gigs. ( I couldn't count them all ) .and that would only be the mainstream ones that were advertised.

Behringer is crap! - is it? do we give labels too much weight?
JTUK replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
The thing is that things get a name for a reason... not everyone will have used the kit, but they might have heard about them. They may have snobby attitudes but that does not make the kit in itself bad.. BMW cars are top of the class so often for a reason.. you only have to drive the opposition to reaffirm their status. Same with Swiss watches....even Rolex... Some things are well made and you see or value the premium you'll pay...others less so. Fender have always been capable of making a pile of sh*te.. for example.. so I would not call these a trusted maker, myself Ditto Gibson But only the buyer can really be sure what the kit is worth with the money they part with.. I know enough about certain makes...not to bother. from my perspective... -

Friend of mine brought a brand new hard-wired AC30...sounded great, but lasted 6 weeks. Never went back to it....hand wired with what, would be my question.. I've run an SWR400 for over 20 years at silly temps and it only missed a beat when it was knocked off stage under power. The tech said it was made with very good components to be able to do that... I think most amps will perform up to a point... but there is a stage where the quality kicks in and becomes apparent...and that is where you need to recognise the value....and reconcile the price you are willing to pay. -

If you can't see or hear where the corners have been cut..or are unconcerned, then fair enough. Ask any tradesman what tools he uses and avoids like the plague and for what reasons and you might be getting somewhere.. All kit will break or fail but you hope the extra premium will show dividends over the period that you use it....but if you don't expect much from it or you don't flog it hard, then maybe you can't or don't see the need to pay the extra. Your call... Behringer amps can be repaired as well....so it is not all bad. I've used their P.A stuff at times but I wouldn't buy it myself....and that wasn't down to build quality, which seems to be quite a gripe... it was the sound, first and foremost. No worse that PV LD and the like... and they seem to share some common components..
