1. It is either good or bad music... Some cover bands are awful..and some originals are worst. If you can sell it.... whichever you do..then you are on the right track..if you can't...well you aren't giving up your day job.
2. The reason we did it was because we wanted to... so after we had the core guys interested and that was after we had a quick musical bash with no drums which confirmed that that unit had pretty good musical chemistry as far as we were concerned...we then put together a song list. We thought at the time we had a decent niche..plus we liked all the songs so that was it. We already had a catogue of originals and thought we would introduce them as and when. I really don't care what the LL's or venues think we do or don't do...we either justify our fee by people through the doors and drinks sold or we don't... and then we will be asked back or not. so, for all our bookings, we do the set we want to do and if people try and influence that we tell them to look elsewhere. P.S we were asked to do Song2 for a wedding so we will jam it on the night..as we didn't think it was too offensive to throw in. But we only dio weddings for 'friends' anyway..and it will be a referral. we don't take them as cold bookings...
3. I think she is a lesson in slides and vibrato... sounds great..
4. I'll come to you when I need a name next time..
5. Notes and intervals... if I have to go to something fast, I'll go to shapes and then revert to the start-off point which will be the the root note of the chord. When you are piecing together a track, you might want to play the song with chords at some point so you can get a feel of how the bass moves between the bars and chords. I favour this way as I then don't have to learn the bass line
6. Dull, dull and thrice DULL...

Come along and take the p** Looking forward to this new pub venue...for us.. as it generally had a decent rosta, I hear..
8. [sub]As long as you aren't talking about VR Micro which is a hideous whiney thing, IMO.[/sub]
9. It has to be a very special date for me not to think about the money. I don't say that I NEED the money but I expect the money to be right 99% of the time. If I get calls from band leaders, the first question I ask is what is the money, where is it and who is the band...as that pretty much determines everything else.
10.
It is 28 years since I played my first gig . I still play in an originals band who are gigging fairly regularly. The decline in the number of pubs is particularly well documented (20-30 per week). We are finding the waiting time to get a gig is become more and more extended as there are the same number of bands and less places to play. Market forces are such that prices are therefore falling. The positive side is that you have to have an increasingly quality set. Anyone else noticing the trend on price?
We do mainly covers but since we are known in the few pubs that we play, we wouldn't be concerned what the set was covers or originals ..and nor should the Landlord be.. I would expect him to complain about the numbers through the door regardless, so bands have always lived or died by their set, anyway. IMO. As regards the fees.... we have put them up for this year..altho we find some pubs bulk beyond £250... so there needs to be a very special reason why we play those..mainly, that they are old friends and we go way back in a musically sense. Personally, I think less venues/pubs is not always a bad thing as you would hope that the better bands would work them...but that also assumes you are happy getting into or being in that group. In this numbers games, is it better to have 5 venues struggling to get their share or 2 pubs getting very good crowds and the standard is high..and the LL does not mind paying good money if he is confident he will earn from it? There aren't the live music numbers there were...IMO... but there are some very well attended pubs on music nights. The best pub in my town can run 4 music nights... and two of those will not pay so well, but they are useful as feeder /demo nights.
11. If you do a gig for free, then you don't place much of a premium on your skills and services or even time. So why expect anyone else to? As Chris says, wise up, and learn from it. You've made the mistake twice... don't compound it again. But if a band can't get £200 for a pub gig then maybe it isn't the right sort of band
12. We gig to get paid. We have to enjoy it as well but we need to cover costs and gear and fuel isn't cheap. We will do a pub to tick over and keep things going on the basis that we will get a better paid gig out of it... but there is no way I'm playing for nothing. The £500 figure is borderline breakeven type figures for venues. Pubs will loose on those takings, if the band costs more than £200, to my thinking.. Clubs probably more so. The trick is to ALWAYS agree a fee... even when you are just starting out..
13. but.. mostly, they have what I want for the price I have in mind. It helps if you travel a couple of hrs and you find a great shop with loads more like-minded goodies..and then some. And then you stay waaaay longer than intended and have a desire to do it all again soon. I must go back there soon..........

15. He will do his best for me, but accepts he can't do a lot of what I would be after. In that sense, I make them aware of other products and makes... Our markets are oppsoed in a way, but I will ask them quote and see what he can do. Other than that, they are a source of what is on locally and make good cofffee
16. Mids are a difficult thing... and need to be managed carefully. You are just as capable of burying your sound like that as anythng else. You can punch through the band in terms of volume and cut down below but lose definition higher up so the sound is complete mush. It is more about seperation than forcing your way thru a wall
17. When you first join this forum, you think everyone is a working player.... and certainly if you go through the GAS, gear and classified threads... but it has all sorts. You'll probably find plenty of gear in the classifieds that has never been giigged... or even been fired up in anger... You make up your own mind
18. Nobody really knew what it meant until you started playing with graphics..and TE introduced them on their amps.. so you could see quite easily what the sound sounded like in relation to frequencies. The default pre-set, IIRC, on TE amps was akin to a smile..hence the smiley face reference.
19. Sounds like the valve stage is maxxed out...
20. Better to think in terms of YOUR best song rather then the best song that you think is most popular.
21. If they aren't paying, they will not expect much... start well, end strong and just don't fall apart in the middle. That is all they can expect to get so anything more that you can deliver is a bonus. Don't beat yourself up for zip... enjoy it and if that comes across, you have crossed the first hurdle
22. 2 Basses, 3 amps and 4 cabs which I could configued anyway I wanted if I was to run it at 2 ohms but I haven't be bothered to do that and probably never will. I would rather add a 212 or get an 610 in.. All gigged regularly
23. Has the OP cancelled yet..??
24. Anyone about on Sat 23rd Mar? My band is playing a new pub...for us.. at Kig's Hill, West Malling. The Spitfire. It is a agented gig but quite hard to get into as they only do Music nights once a month. The rosta is supposed to be quite good. Hoping to meet up with a few BC-ers that night and dis the band... If you aren't working and fancy popping by..we will play a songsters type set ranging from Weller, Pretenders/Hynde. Throw in a Who tune or two, Stones. maybe Killers 5 Piece line-up and we can rock out a few tunes ..should be a pretty decent night.
25.
AE2x12 in-coming but not NV unfortunately.
1st dibs on your DB's... or we can swap AE112's
