1. in theory yes... but actually doing it and getting the break is another thing.
2. We have a date then... Windmill on the 30th for Steve's band... I guess he is buying if we ram the place and Neil loves it jokin'
3. If the band is good, I can just get along with it all... I wouldn't do metal, but apart from that, I've done it all... I can give Reggae and Ska a miss..if the band is heavily themed on that. I've been playing slap since Stanley and some people don't realise I do it so I find pidgeon holes of music are more the problem of other people, myself.
4. If you run subs from the aux channel, you'll waste an out signal...but if that isn't an issue, you have a degree of control. You could see if the subs you buy have an out to the tops which will x-over the signal to the tops.. If you aren't loud you may just get away with one Sub...
5.
I got turned on to this show recently. I love it. Until, that is, I listened to the link above. Does anyone agree with me that Cee Lo really isn't much of a singer? He mumbles his way through most of the song, awful delivery. The band are on it as to be expected but he's a major let down IMHO.
[ No, don't agree that Cee-Lo isn't much of a singer... This isn't a track for him but that isn't so much the nature of the show.
6. What tops you using...? They may well have a sub connect We run ours from a controller.
7. [sub]Will deffo be at the Windmill on the 30th.[/sub] [sub]They are having good crowds there... and I am sure Michele could fill it almost with her 'mates' anyway..[/sub] [sub]Can't call them MILFS ..well, I can, but I think she would not like...!! [/sub]
8. Steve, I hear the Spitfire is a good venue... we have done the Festival there so looking forward to this. They only do 1 gig a month atm.. so maybe I can introduce you to Kay who handles the bands there.
9. Has been a decent show... If you want a different take of a popular tune... this isn't a bad place to start. Missing T-Bone, but Daryl Hall never quite got the recognistion he deserved..??? Best Live show I can recall.. Hall and Oates at the Town and Country.
10. Should be able to make the 30th.... we are the Spitfire on the 23rd,
11. I wouldn't be a guinea pig... I'd get someone who has made all the design moves already. A custom bass is a lottery at the best of times as you never know exactly how it will sound until you plug it in.. so you don't want to add to that if the wood cominations and joints are not a well-trodden route fo the builder.
12. It seems to me that he wants to get 'exclusive' but he is a bit too fly. I'd tell the venues you are quite happy to book direct but this agent does nothing you or the venue can't do..so he is the one you can afford to ditch. I'm guessing the agent will not last too long as he is an overhead no one realy needs. I wouldn't fall out with anyone, I just wouldn't take the gigs. If he was a passport to better gigs then I may tolerate him more, but if he isn't... I'd cut him out. Generally agents can't get us money in pubs that makes it wothwhile doing them or paying them. Our pub price to an agent has to be £300 and 10%... and unless they are must-plays, then cut them/him..IMO.
13. lets make a night of it at the Windmill.... quite a music pub these days..

2x12's??????

Bugger... I was thinking about a 212 for my stage rig...
15. Interesting question Chris... as generally I find that 2x112 are not equal to, say, 2x210 Or rather I could tell you which models I think are not...IME.
16. That would be a problem from my POV as well. I use 2x210 on the bigger gigs and the 2x112 for smaller ones... so having the 2x112 option taking up the same sort of footprint will not really work.. I may as well just take out the 2x210's as I prefer them. Storage and car isn't an issue tho..
17. But the track will likely be hard work if you approach it like this. You have no idea who is going to play what and how... as you found out. Far better to have a few notes and wing it. and be able to quickly transpose it If you get the gig, then you can worry about how close the band is capable of getting and how close you want to get
18.
Gah! I've just measured the door of the cupboard I keep my gear in - literally the ONLY place in the house safe from rampaging children - and the ML112s are 1/2" too wide to fit through. That's me out of the running
wider than the Bergs..?
19. We have a right 'sort' of song and after that we pretty much only dump it if we don't like the way we do it. And some of those songs are songs that all of us really wanted to do...
20.
I refuse to play songs all of the time. If I know it is going to be a train wreck.....
Banned lists should be applauded.... and extend that to banned bands...
21.
I (and I assume others who have participated in this thread) was asked yesterday evening by a mod not to participate any further in this thread...............................
Really.....???? why would that be..???
22. Auditions NO, referrals, YES. Then you phone them and convince them you are worth looking at. These guys wotrk or have worked and they pretty much know there and then if they have space for a new venture. If they say No at this point, you mostly haven't sold the idea very well They will be lookin at you as the right sort of stature and you already know they can play..so it becomes more about can you live with the personal nuances/playing style and general character..and what they bring to the party. If they can't take the band to an interesting musical place..through energy or playing skills etc etc ..then it is not going to work anyway.
23.
As an interested bystander, with no desire to buy any more bass cabinets for quite a while, I feel that some contributors to this thread have come out of it with enhanced reputations (in my eyes) and others have done the opposite. .......
I consider myself a bystander as well to all intents and purposes... and I agree.
24.
Because the measurements are wrong, and along with them any and all opinions based upon them.
Ok...forget that you don't like the measurements.... if the buyer then decided he didn't like the sound, that would trump all technical data, to my mind anyway. And the the opposite would apply as well. IMO.
25.
Review of the Baer ML112 Well, not really a review as such, but I thought I’d flesh out my earlier remarks for those of you planning to audition the Baer cabs. Here are a few pointers gleaned from the measurements from the Bass Gear test that may be of help. I’ll try to keep it salient. The first thing you notice on the Bass Gear frequency response plot is the first thing you will hear when you listen to the product. There is a large (6dB or so) peak at around 1600Hz which is the main breakup mode of the bass driver. This peak comprises distortion and delayed resonances (‘ringing’) and is fairly typical of some Eminence LF drivers. Normal practice is to neutralize such peaks by putting them well out of the passband. These are resonances, not unlike cabinet resonances, and are normally undesirable. One of the benefits of using a midrange driver is that you get to take these “nasty" breakup frequencies out of the equation and replace them with a nice smooth, clean, uncoloured midrange. There are several other benefits of this arrangement, including directional consistency up to a much higher frequency than the bass driver can manage on its own. However, because the crossover frequency of the ML112 is at a very high 1500 – 1700 Hz (where you would expect to cross to a 1” compression driver like in Duke’s AudioKinesis system) this speaker gains few of the benefits of a bass/mid design where the transition normally takes place much lower (at around 600Hz). It’s almost as if the midrange driver in this system were being used as tweeter. The sharp cancellations in the off axis responses show that the crossover design is flawed (the off-axis curves should be smooth). This is also likely to have a negative effect on sound quality in this area. Finally, also as a result of the crossover design, the impedance curve of this 8-ohm-rated cab drops below nominal at around 1500Hz and drops further to around 4 ohms at 3kHz. This is quite a serious design fault and means that the product does not meet one of its most important specs. Whether you will damage your amplifier by using two of them is anyone's guess but if I were considering laying out money for one of these cabs, I would be happier if I knew the manufacturer had the technical expertise to avoid this kind of problem in the first place. There’s more, but I think that gives you a few pointers. The main thing I would listen for when auditioning these would be whether I could live with the large resonant peak built into the cab, because it will dominate anything you play through it (and because it’s a resonance, it will be there to some extent even if you try to dial it out). Anyway, I’m sure you’ll all make your own mind up and the final arbiter is your ears. If you like it, get your credit card out and buy one. It’s your money.
Well, I followed it well enough to understand that the measurements need to be squared with hearing the cab.. and as I read it, the reviewer measured and as well as listened. I am no sure why Stevie is the bad guy in this... he has pointed out a few perceived abnomalies from a tecnhical POV... and IF that is again bourne out by a hearing test, which everyone will do before buying, I hope...then the buyer can decide if it is applicable or not to their goals. It doesn't seem a lot different from 5st string spacings...for example... to some it is a big problem, to others it isn't at all The way I see the interpretation of the measurements is that there is potential for a hole in the sound bewteen one driver and another compounded by x-overs levels... Now if this offends your ears, then the cab isn't going to work for you..if it doesn't, you'll probably buy a very good cab. I don't see why an opinion should almost be shouted down. I don't say Stevie is right or wrong as I'd like to hear the cab for myself to know WHAT I THINK... but I think his opinion and posts in this instance have validity on the basis of how he has quantified them... not to everyones tastes OR measurements, it seems, but hey ho..!!
