maybe there should be......................... fewer bands out there
-
30-40 basses a year and they physically can't make any more with a two man team who ship out the things like paintwork. The shaping might be very labour intensive so that is where the tiime goes. Pit that against a box and the core conponent is brought in as a finished product. If I ordered a cab from the States at the wrong time of the order cycle, I might have to wait 6 weeks or so.. anymore than that and I'd go elsewhere but as long as you are ok with any delivery times you are given...you either go for it or you don't... But you also need to be kept in the loop for any unforeseen delays

It is the internet and you can only take at face value the position the poster purports to have .. They may even be repeating an adoptive POV that they have read elsewhere and they haven't themselves managed to get beyond the bedroom I am sure you'll find that sort of thing here.... but generally those aren't hard to spot or suss.. How much it all matters..?????

I'd say that was a decent price for retail as they would normally be marked up for closer to £2000 plus. Not knocked-out by some of the set-ups for these type of basses, so go and play it and get an idea of how you can tweak it should you want to. I also agree, that I'd offer lower than that price...but then I would also be thinking why they would discount it as such... Deffo go and see it... you could end up with a bass that plays above what you paid for it.

When ordering from small companies, you will expect that they can't handle last minute hiccups very easily or effectively.. But I would expect a custom bass to take a year to make .... as that is the quoted finish time when ordering, but I couldn't accept half that time for a cab..... If someone said 6 months to deliver a cab, then the buyer needs to know that and reconcile whether they will wait that long. But if you put yourself in that position, you better not be needing that kit.

I'd say that is a nominal 8 ohm cab.

Ball park, 300/8, 500/4 is the area you should look at, IMO. But unless you mix the band properly, then you'll just put up a wall of sound. You want to be able to hear everything, not fight to be heard.

Venues booked up further and further in advance
JTUK replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
Depends... the bigger gigs are booked or the dates held over to confirmation..but pubs book in a few ..and if they have not got the bands that they want...they will hold over dates for that band. One or two pubs say they will do their diary for the year on a specific date and expect bands to call in on that date. I think that is more to do with the LL's ego than anything else... Plenty of last minuite stuff as well.. I think it depends if the venues know and want you... -
Best pubs round here see to work on a nucleus of 20-30 locals who turn out...plus bands are expected to do the same and then you have a good night. I now think one of those pubs has turned the corner and can afford any band they wanted round here... but I doubt they will do that every week. As for bands, does a full rig of lights and decent P.A get them more money than a 3 piece blues outfit who make the least effort....but then since it is such an easy gig for them, they can probably afford to go out for £150. Personally, I think the pub scene has moved on... but then we get into the too much work for the money syndrome..!!

hmmmm I would say it isn't obvious when the groove isn't there as people tend to carry on regardless... There isn't anyone who can tell you about the groove if they haven't got it themselves. Sounds more political than musical to me...
-
Ignore them until they start to make any sort of sense... Vox can easiliy get ideas above their station...and because they are a focal point they think all of a sudden, they can impart this sort of 'wisdom' File under 'idiot'

If people don't talk then how do they expect things to happen. I'd take your own kit and if they told you you couldn't use theirs, - they MUST be bringing their backline, then I would be breaking my stuff down off stage and into the car. If that means you have to leave the gig early, then so be it.... but at least you aren't dependant on anyone...

Odd one... for new gigs, people were always asking if we had a following but now we only pick the pubs we fancy and that way, we know what trade they have. But yes, nothing worse than a poor turnout but that is the thing with new bands, tbh..unless you slaughter your mates with invites which gives a false impression as you can't and shouldn't rely on them every gig. It sounds as though you just played this one wrong.... As an aside, I couldn't understand an originals gig berating the promoter for not getting anyone to their gig.. as though the bands have no responsibility whatsoever... Round here, gone are the days when pubs would be packed on wed and sundays..it is now a fri/sat gig but we can't or wont take pub bookings on a sat during the summer season. Winter, we tick over with a couple a month and a few parties. Pubs and venues really need to share getting people to the gig... it is tough work all round, but worth it. I never take a crowd for granted...and you need a good one for when you put the rates up...

My new band 'The Police'd' debut gig. Friday 29th. The Crown in Littlehampton

What are you doing so far from home? -
I think you do need another one ... I think they are great cabs and a step up from the AE series..from what I can hear. No doubt about build quality tho...
-
Got to agree that a Jazz and SWR are a classic sound. I'd only vouch for old SWR kit before the sell-out, myself.... so a SM series would be fine. I run a SM400 as a practice rig and wont sell it...
-
I don't see the objection to charts that you couldn't apply to an i-pad... you are stiill going to look at it and turn a page even with a pedal ... The i-pad might be tidier so if you need prompts then go with that....

Is there any reason I SHOULDN'T run these 2 cabs together?
JTUK replied to Wooks79's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'd be thinking, nice idea and all that, but overkill and wont give you anything worth humping the extra cab around for... I think a 610 is pretty much all you'll ever need... and when visuals come into it... you'll need that dulplicate 610 But sure, as an exercise, you can run them together with the amp you've got, but the 15 will struggle sooner .. than the 610..obviously.. and you could find the 15 totally redundant -
If its a barefaced check the feet and handles are still there! Lol only joking See how the owner looks after his/her gear as that will be a good indicator of how they will have treated the cab when in use regarding overloading it or throwing it about. Chromatic scales holding the notes are best imo for finding that frequency that gets anything loose to rattle, dont be surprised to find a note that makes something in the sellers house rattle, my bedroom doesnt like A#
Indeed............ I wouldn't buy a cab that wasn't looked after visually.... as if they can't do that, then how else do they treat it? All the cabs I have brought recently have been pretty much mint, and sound it as well. So, when I am looking to sell, I like them to be close to the condition I brought them in...

All songs becomes ours after a little while anyway... some stay pretty close and others get a life of their own. We never worry about... if you get people up and moving, you're doing something right. It is good to have people dancing to tracks they have likely never heard or...and in some cases, never even heard of the band. There is education in lots of music.... and we are interested in any song with a decent tune. We start from there and add our parts...
-
You'd have to hear it to decide if it is to your liking. The strange thing to me is why you would want to.... You have a light cab ( easy carry ) which can put out bass so it is not bass light. The number of times you hear people wanting to run another cab...?? not really the single cab solution you'd think..??
Thanks guys. Don't want to be known as Knobby. I love the sound. Just can't stop messing
Love the sound, then leave it as is....
Er... no you're not. What I paid for it is immaterial. Anyone who has not been following this thread may be unaware that these cabs have been available at such a good price for such a short time. Maybe more will become available at that price, maybe they won't. If I was a shoplifter and got it for nothing, would I be expected to give it away for nothing? Of course not (or so I assume, being unfamiliar with the "rules" of the criminal classes...). Should people who bought company shares at rock-bottom be expected to sell them on for the same price? Again, that would seem logically flawed. As you (and others) have said, the market dictates prices. But "the market" is made up of individuals, who all have individual wants, opinions and needs. I love the "community" feel of Basschat, but at the same time, why should I shoot myself in the foot and undervalue something just so other people feel better about it? Anyway, I may be looking to trade it for something else locally so all this may be academic
But people here would know... and not sure using the morals of a shop lifter is that great a stance either...
I've been told by drummers that, although sticks are louder, It takes more energy to play with rods than sticks. The last time our drummer played with rods (to keep the volume down), he ended up dripping with sweat after the gig, even though he sounded a lot quieter than usual. That energy transferred to the whole bands performance and we played and sounded better than ever.
Our current drum needs 3 shirts per gig for a 2 setter... But I would dread it if the drummer...or anyone else said they hadn't played for a while

I'm firmly in the non class D camp. You want beans to your sound, you need some weight to deliver it. IMO.
