1. I can see both sides.... if it were me, I'd have the best bass I could, but depending what you wanted to do with sales, and who you were might dictate differently. Depends how much you'd be swayed by 'business decisions'
2.
As it's Christmas, anyone know of any Ian Dury & Blockheads or AWB tribute acts. I feel like arranging an interesting gig
Go and find Hamish.... he lives near your old stomping ground...
3.
Unfortunately its specs are quite the opposite of those needed. if the OP wants a worthwhile driver he needs to spec match it as close as possible to the Delta Pro 15. If he doesn't care how it sounds or if it will last more than three notes that's a different story.
I'd go with this as best advice, myself.
4. But someone has posted a view... and it wasn't the most complimentary, but hardly a flaming. But still people jump down his throat. The perpetual fanboi posts and threads get a reaction and the reaction gets a reaction... As long as people fawn over these cabs...and others don't get that, then you end up with publicity that outwears its welcome. If the company wants to have a chance in the big outside industry, maybe it is time to cut lose from this place ..
5.
I don't think you got very good advice when you bought the 2510s - they have a horrible 10dB peak at 2kHz which is accompanied by all kinds of nasties. I'm not surprised you didn't like them.
I asked around for the most popular 'convert' and they kept coming up. I accept it was a risk. I really really wanted the PAS speakers repaired but couldn't find anyone who could do it and I went down all sorts of avenues to that end. It did make me re-evaulate whose opinion I would take note of, tho....
6.
I reckon what you're probably noticing is the sound of the cabs rather than the drivers. Bass cab manufacturers insist on building their neo models in thin/light materials. The only 'proper' cabs I know fitted with neos are the AERs. I had a GK lightweight cab here recently and 'lacking authority' is certainly how I'd describe it. The midrange colouration people are complaining about from the Markbass cabs could be due to the same thing, although I suppose some players are more sensitive to colourations than others.
wouldn't rule that out...but for the fact that the SWR goliath jnr cab was traditional build and I blew the PAS speakers and put 2510's in them. People tell this is a great refit, but I didn't like the harder edge ... and also I think the cab needed a retune of ports...which I probably wasn't up for at the time. I currently have Berg AE NEO's and they are fine... but I have other cabs that work better for me, than fine. This little pet 'theory' is about weight and heft... but only can manifest itself when I plug in, turn up and think, 'yeah' My thing about Markbass is really quite a picky thing as it really isn't bad stuff... but picky I can be I feel the same about my Thunderfunk...and I wouldn't have said that 2 years ago. Things move on...
7.
can we keep all the pick players ensconced in their own wee enclosure please
I like where you are going with this... we could coral all the fanboi type groups and section them off
8. The trouble with TB is that you have to put up with Americans and that means you have to sift through such a lot of banal ( bloody anal ) crap. As a resource for info, it can be very very good, tho. You have to determine who likes the sound of their own voice too much and who actually knows what they are talking about... which is not unkown on most forums...but TB does have very big potential as a knowledge base... IMO. Which, actually, is the whole point.
9.
Maybe you should get a Barefaced cab...
They might be alright for you...
10. The Enfield is based around the 'interesting' pickup. The idea is the pickup position can authentically get you anything from MM, P to a Jazz and I think it does. Whether you'd want a bass to do that within the build of the Enfield is another thing. IMO, I think it is a cleverly executed idea but doesn't quite come off. The pickup is a huge block and visually odd. The rest of the bass is quite a heavy clunky type thing whch does what is says well, ..but it all comes across as a mish mash to me... Sims does quality work for other makers and the Enfields follow that standard ..but it stops there for me...
11. If your 2xDB112's sound like my DB212, then you should get a nice tight but full bottom end ( great for 5st ) but enough mid bite to make your bass shine through. I wouldn't call them the most technical cabs, but they just work. Sometimes, why over complicate it...??? Aguilar have well and truly stolen Ampegs clothes,... whether that was by design or not, I don't know but vintage modern is where they sit, IMO I also think a Jazz and Aguilar will become a classic combination just like jazz and SWR were. Thankfully, Aguilar still seem a small U.S based company despite their growing global presence. I hope that situation remains
12. Probably out of touch with Ampeg amps these days as most recent use has been SVT3 pro, NEO combo Amp ( not sure what it was based on, tbh ) and PF500. The PF sounds good and drivey in a showroom...so I'd want to know how it amps up...and would need to drive it. Not knocked out with the SVT3 pro as the graphic and Mid type switch seem muddled thinking to me. I think the amp is pretty basic sound-wise and the PF sound..if not QC ..seems a better bet to me. I wouldn't be that surprised if the 3 Pro was the better loud live amp though. I think the TH500 is a decent enough head, designed on solid and tried and tested sound models so I don't think it will be any worse than the Ampegs. 2 recent demos of a PF500 thru a PR cab and and TH through CN112's sounded very sweet. I'd reserve final opinion until I'd gigged them tho. I'd also take into account reliability issues of certain models. I use a TH pedal but its primary use is a emergency DI ...
13. I personally don't really like single 112's myself...but if you do...then adding another should really kick the 'wow' up a notch. I'd trade my Bergs for 2 DB112's
14. I've used 210 combos, 112, 115 cabs and not liked any of them. By that, I mean, they did ok on the gig but nothing to make me consider them further. I appreciated the combo in that it was small and light ( good carry ) and pokey enough and I think it is a great little rehearsal solution but didn't do it to the same degree on a gig. I had to run it with another cab, so the single cab type solution actually wasn't. As for the sound..the amps don't amp up well for me....it is not as simple as just turning up the master and keeping the sound but the Markbass LM amp isn't alone in this, for sure. The cabs...sound harsh/hard at low volumes and NEO, classically.... and people will insist there isn't a NEO sound, but all the NEO's I've used sound same-ish. They have no problem handling the volumes so much, but lack authority, IMO. Getting away from the NEO nuance insinuation.. the 12 and 15, certainly to my ears, sound low mid and flabby. I get this both onstage and in the audience. Contrary to what people are saying here, I've never heard a good sound live or never been impressed much. To this end, my good bass player friend will use Epi cabs with MB head ..and Epi's are known for the pillow sound over Markbass, IMV...!! I think they are decent kit and well made, but are short of being top quality. I think they'll do a good job, but not killer, but can see the attraction.. Decent QC, light weight and good price.
15.
That surprises me. Did you try 2, or any of the 212 cabs?
I'd say the low end of 2x GS112's ( for example ) is pretty exceptional... if that is what you want. I don't use them as this cab bias limits the sound elsewhere.IMO. The DB112 is a better balanced cab, IMO....but you'll need 2 Same speaker, different tune and end goals but there is a limit to what one chassis can do.
16. The Brewery Store, Faversham Capacity 450. IIRC:£2000 to hire and that includes all staff, bar keeps takings. Lights and P.A provided. HK Atlas thing with MT monitors... not upto the job, IMV. Engr not included. If you play it as booked... then they pay a set fee, look after you well (food and drink rider ), but you are expect to sell well at around £8-12.50. The ticket fee you set determines what you get. £750 upwards depending what % you can negiotiate/justify. They pay the support. No backline. They provide same P.A, lights and sound engr ( freelance ). They will crew the lights but you are better off upping the fee and bringing your soundman and lightman. It is a good gig, but you may decide it is too much work for the money.
17. Dealt with them a few times...will always check out their stock and prices and never had any problems with them. Always done what they said they would do.. Wouldn't hesitate to use them at all.
18. Talking about 2xDB210's against a DB212... I never thought I'd say this... but I much prefer the 212.. and regularly A/B them Of course, I could run all of them
19.
So from what I read.... some people don't like them cos they think they don't look nice and/or question the quality of the build. Or as JTUK said think the website isn't that well presented, which I don't think affects me mid gig but fair enough, I decided as a boy to support spurs over west ham based on the colour of the kit.
I agree that a quality website can be a quite an expense, but I would be critical of bands using Myspace, for example. or having a poor hash job, in general, so I think it is pertinent. It just all goes to ...IMO...if you are going to do something, do it properly, so build is part of that, as is presentation. If you need to cut costs ..and that may be very critical in these days... then that goes to how you can position yourself in the market...?? I don't see how you can try and proclaim or position yourself to be a top brand when there are flaws in the whole deal. So, things like build QC, website, etc etc all kick in as far as I am concerned. If you skimp on one thing, where else might this apply? That is my thinking on things of this sort... oh..and you should never support Spurs over West Ham..what on earth were you thinking
20.
Long post for someone so indifferent.
lol: well, sometimes you think a post is worth a decent reply...even if 'decent' means long :
21. Got an opinion of the NV ceramics against the Berg NEO's..??
22. If I were doing more sessions, I'd have this... as it is, my DB750 pre stage or TH pedal is all I need. You can understand why Aguilar has such a studio pre amp heritage.
23. Not sure I buy EBS's thinking on their budget line...esp the Classic cabs so that wouldn't be where I would start...personally.
24. That is no bad stand point. They are others who are pretty indifferent. It is just as viable that people don't get why other people don't rate their cabs much... and when they say why, they get shot down.. People here tend to hear what they want to hear in topics and they seek solace in a clique or group and are forever posting about it. This perpetuates the whole thing. It may also get a reaction and then you get these amusing bunfights. I personally don't care what people use... why would it matter to me at all? It doesn't mean anything either when people bang on about the way they think they sound I'd only have an opinion about their sound if I saw them playing.... and took any notice. As for the product itself... I think their presentation is not very good..the website and the look of the cabs themselves need a professional approach and application as they are trying to inhibit a professional world. If you try and set yourself up as trying to make a top notch product, make sure you deliver...and better still let the industry judge you as such. Having a few users here posting multiple threads about them doesn't add up to that IMO... It is like anything else... if you pick a path to go down... there may come a point where you are judged by your choices. As long as you are happy with that then, fine. But if someone said your sound wasn't working, you'd be foolish to ignore them without good reason. If that reason was...yeah, I know, but it is all I can carry.. well, that isn't the worst reason in the world, either But.... I say this... there aren't that many threads to post on if there weren't so many about BF... so just enjoy the banter. other than that, it really isn't my problem or concern..
