It's weird reading Pat Badger's name all these years later. I remember the kids in the year below at school all being big fans of Extreme "back in the day" but then they all got into grunge. I guess my year were into the crop of bands beforehand. I think playing with a pick over the pickup would get you in the right ball park regardless of bass / rig. I assume the trade value of those Washburns is pretty minimal in 2014 but happy to be corrected.

I played one back around 2008 and was really disappointed (no omph!) but they've upgraded them twice since. The last one I played was much better so I reckon the 2014 ones would be bang on the mark.

Both are brilliant basses, I've owned both. As said the 57 is slightly wider at the nut and there is a small difference in tone that you only really notice if you play them alongside each other but basically both deliver classic P tones. I played the 57 for years and years. The 62 lasted a fair while with me too

I'm with Jono on the Grolsch bottle tops as strap locks. They've been used by me for over 15yrs and never let me down. The violin basses are light as anything and a cheap strap would be fine.

I have a couple of Bass Clef vinyl decals on my car. I only added them about a year ago and they are suitably understated.

An amazing talent

I used the SP210 with my Orange Head for 4yrs and it never let me down. I was always getting compliments on my sound too. Must've been the witchcraft Only got rid of it to free up some cash when a cheaper Ampeg rig came up.

As I said the guitarist playing double stops and partial chord shapes will certainly thicken things up whilst creating space. A lot of soloing in the rock 'n' roll era involves thickening up the guitar with double stops or chord based soloing. It's easy for us as bass players to think we are the ones who are at fault but I wonder if your guy is doing a lot of single note soloing? Listen to Eddie Cochran or Buddy Holly - it's very heavily based around[b] not[/b] just playing single notes and that thickens the sound. Just thinking about your playing from what you've said. In terms of the bass, jazzes are slightly better for cutting through the mix and playing more melody based basslines. A P-bass would thicken up the sound. And I assume you are using flatwounds, playing finger style nearer the neck? All this will make for a more authentic period correct sound. Effects weren't relied on then as they are now. Failing on all that I was deadly serious in my offer to try out on 2nd guitar. And I see Rockabilly Rumble are playing the Vic on Friday 20th. I'll probably venture down to that one

I too have the Butterscotch one and it is one of only two electric basses I play now (the other is also Squier). I have to say I prefer the Butterscotch to the Lake Placid Blue simply because I like a nice glossed neck. This model would still be an absolute steal at £200, never mind £120.

Hey Darren - we've spoken on PM about this music. I think space is good & actually live doesn't notice in the way it does in rehearsal. I'm looking to move back to Wiltshire soon & have both a Gretsch and a J200 acoustic so if you do go down the 2nd guitar route give us a shout.

Yeah, why not? It would promote the band, get me a free bass and appeal to my personal vanity Mine would be the a salmon pink early 50s P bass possibly with an upside down headstock.

With my last rig that I've only recently replaced I was another one who'd flightcased it and sat the cab on top of the empty flightcase. With my Ampeg rig I hadn't actually thought about it until I read this thread but it was plenty loud enough so I hope I'm OK.

But it must be true if someone is saying it on the Internet though, right?
