1. Pitchforks and lanterns time. I will happily go first. Karl.
2. My rig, only one I have. Practice acoustically at home. I love it. Sorry, dont have digital camera. Karl.
3. Hello and welcome to Basschat. Put some photo's up and you may get more than one opinion. If you do a search on E Bay you may find one that's been sold over the last few months. Also google it see what you come up with. Good luck, Karl.
4. Don't know if this is the right place, but, Mechanically I would like to replace tuners as 2 are very slightly bent. Cosmetically I need to source a black scratchplate and even more difficult a black TRC with "Rickenfaker" on it. Will probably need to source a bridge pick up surround, as when I cleaned it, quite a bit of chrome came off. I am staggered by how well made this thing is. I am just hoping the photo's will add a tiny bit to our knowledge of Rickenfakers. Cheers, Karl. Edited for spelling again!
5.
Just beautiful. Are you just about to give it a lick of daphne blue - maybe not a great move?
Eyes down!
6.
Looks like a Classic Vibe Squier to me... - Link here
Body/plate/controls, probably Classic Vibe, and probably same for pup and bridge. Neck, who knows? Classic Vibe is truss rod adjustment at headstock end. This one is 70's re-issue style with truss adjustment at body end. Looks like it could be a Mighty Mite neck? Karl.
7. Thanks A.T. Shimmed the neck yesterday and the action is massively improved. Next issue is to strip the tuners, see if I can tighten them and keep the bloody thing in tune. Serial number is B762972 which I am guessing is 1976. I must say, it seems really well made even though it shows signs of a tough life. Oh, and , what a sound!!!!!!!, especially through a 700watt rig. All the best, Karl.
8. £550 for a USA P? Really must be Christmas! Karl.
9. Richard Thomson, Thomson guitars, Wigan. Done all my basses except my latest weakness, and he will get that very soon! Richard does a fantastic job. Karl.
10.
So Ernie's brother Eric has got in on the act too. Can't understand why it's had no bids ;-) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Eric-Ball-Electric-B...=item4155775c99
Karl.
11.
The power of hype.
Amen to that!
12.
And here it is. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fireglo-McCartney-st...=item255fbe9ccd Low start bid too.
And now it's with me Anybody point me in the direction of articles on how to adjust twin truss rods on a BOLT ON neck copy? The rods look like they have been painted over. The bass itself is, erm, more mojo'd than the photo's, lot of little chips and a couple of big chips, scratches etc. Virtually all the chrome parts are pitted, but I will inquire about that at a later date. Next years gig money will perhaps go to black Hipshot bridge, pick up surround and black tuners (wonder who gave me that idea ) . The main thing is to get the action playable as you could currently drive a Transit under the strings. One redeeming feature is ............... it sounds bloody fantastic!!! so I am very keen to get it playable. Hope someone can point me, cheers guys, Karl.
13. Gentlemen and Ladies, pick up your pitch forks and lanterns. I will happily lead. Karl.
14. Bryan came to see and possibly buy a bass today. Did what he said, came when he said and a transaction was agreed. Smooth, effortless deal. Followed by some very smooth and technical playing! Many thanks Bryan, I hope you really enjoy it for a long time, and you find the jazz outfit you are looking for. Deal with confidence people. Cheers, Karl. Edited for spelling, again,
