1.
you should buy it - I have one and they are beautiful basses - MIM classic series standards - no affiliation to the seller BTW
Very tempted Gareth but 300 miles, £60+ of fuel and 5 hours driving are slightly off putting
2.
I became an actor for a while - still am to a lesser extent. I figured that if I played the role of a confident singer I might get by long enough to start building up that confidence for real. It worked. As I got more confident I began to attack microphones rather than shy from them. That made me sound better - sounding better made me that little bit more confident , and so it went on. These days I don't think of myself as a great singer , more of a workmanlike one. A craftsman rather than an artist. I also appreciate why singing bass players I admired - such as Phil Lynott and to a lesser extent Geddy Lee (not lesser on playing ability) - sang lines which might appear to be a bit un-natural timing wise. It's so they can fit them with playing the bass line. I do that all the time. I don't think my playing has suffered. I think it's improved. When singing - I have a greater sense of the song in terms of it being a melody and lyrics , and therefore a better sense of how best to suport that with my bass playing. I fill the gaps better than I used to and don't interupt like I had a tendancy to do. Best of all - it stops you looking at your fcuking hands !!!! You become more of an entertainer - more in touch with the williams - less likely to hide halfway behind the drums then complain later that you're contribution isn't recognised !! Be honest - how many of us have done that?!
Yeah, I've seen you and Rod, shrinking violets the pair of you Sell me the Tele wise one
3. Yup it's all very interesting. The one that keeps staggering me is the Marcus Millers. They are over £1000 new now, partially due to VAT increase couple of years back, which adds cost from raw materials up wards. Exchange rate between sterling and Yen has had an impact, There are far fewer basses from Japan advertised on FEEBay now, because they have become prohibitively expensive. Meanwhile back at Marcus. Mr/Mrs/Ms Bloggs who bought there Marcus 8 years ago brand new at £400, now want £700/£900 for it because a new ones a grand. Then they wonder why their is little interest. Same can be said with Aerodynes, anybody paying £700 for them is frankly bonkers. You can have my White USA P for £650. Less than a Miller or Aerodyne? Ho hum!
4. Cheers LukeFRC, but I do like to make a tit of myself at least once a day . Still a beautiful bass bump.
5. Umm, been humming and hah-ing about this one the last twice it's been up, assuming it's the same one. I should have got it off Andy the first time I saw it up for sale, Manchester was a lot closer . Beautiful bass. Good luck.
6. Response from Fender was quick, but just the "take it along to your local authorised dealer, try fret dress before more expensive options". Thanks a bunch Fender, from a long time user and buyer. Don't try too hard will you. So, bollocks to local Fender dealer, now in the excellent hands of Ritchie Tomson, Tomson Guitars, of Wigan. Superb custom maker, luthier and all round nice guy. Oh, and 100% trustworthy. Watch this space. Or not. Karl.
7. So tempted by this presuming it's the UL2 neo model, but at 5.3 ohms just not going to get the max out of my Shuttle. Very good luck, Karl.
8. Many thanks for the advice fellas. Going to contact Fender, see who the authorised repairer is for near Wigan. Normally Richard Thompson of Thompson guitars does all mine, but I don't want to put him in an awkward position with this one. Cheers, Karl.
9. 9 weeks ago got a Sea Foam FSR Precision. Last Monday a member got in touch asking to swap his American Standard, 2008, High mass bridge, graphite rodded Precision for my lovely Sea foam green FSR. Greed got the better of me, We met up, I tried his, action a little high, thought no more as I would be able to cure that. Just assumed that was the way he played. He loved my FSR Sea foam green, we exchanged. I have not informed the other member I think the neck is knackered, as it was fine when I tried it out, just the action was very high. I don't think he knew about the problem and he's a great bloke I've dealt with before. Don't want to do the embarrassing thing. Yesterday I got the time to set up the 2008 American standard Precision. Try as I might, action any lower than 6/64th's produced dead spot from 12th fret to 20th especially on the D string. Didn't seem to make any difference what I did with the truss rod. Don't think shimming it will make any difference as it will just make the top of the fretboard closer to the strings. Whilst it is an American standard, it is 4 years old and second hand so obviously out of warranty. I need to find out; A. If it is repairable. B. If I need to get a replacement Mighty Mite neck (can't afford a replacement USA Fender one). Must admit very surprised, had dozens of Fender over the years and the biggest problem I have ever had is the odd scratchy pot! I look forward to any advice anybody can give, cheers, Karl.
10. Unbelievable price for a fantastic workhorse bass.
11. Always tortie. Beautiful Nick (no, not you )
12. Bugger, my money was on Lozz's guess
13. I'll have no disrespect shown for Sherpa vans please
14.
"Wifezilla".... priceless :-)
You wouldn't be saying that if you were there at their coven meetings. Medusa the Mother in law, Satan the sister in law and Attila the Hen. No man should have to brave these three.
15.
Probably wasn't your intention but thanks for pointing me out to this instrument.. Didn't plan on buying a Fender again but I was so drawn by its looks that I checked the video and loved the sound and the possibilities. I'm going to buy one over here in Belgium, thanks !
Ahhh, share the love . Actually got round to trying this last night before it went and I was surprised at it's power and tonal flexibilty. Thanks to everybody for their kind comments but it looks like the one I'm after may not be happening. Wifezilla overheard the "R" word and hit the roof when I got back. Taking out the anger and expletives, the rather one sided conversation went sort of "what's the point of ANOTHER Rickenbacker, you will only sell it in a month". Slightly frosty this morning
16. Just done another trade with Lloyd, North West gear tarts stick together you know . Anyway, you won't find anyone better to deal with, immensely recommended. That is all! Karl.
17. Cheers Tom, hope you get to try the one Sounds Live have in Newcastle. At least doing it that way, you will know if you like the feel/ sound of them (bet mine is set up better though ). Karl.
18. Wonder if we all do this self justification? Damn, that was a stupid question
19. Hope you don't mind Delberthot, but here's mine with brown tortie plate If you do mind, I'll delet this post, cheers, Karl.
20. Bump for Beedster for a fabulous bass. Bump for Clarky for picking my fave ever Genesis track. OOOh, I've come over all nostalgic, wanna form a prog covers band this minute. Karl.
21. Thanks for the comments folks. Not at all jealous of ANOTHER 77 Precision Lozz Delberthot had the good grace to point out in a PM that Thomann are doing these at £625, but obviously without the £50 custom brown tortie plate. So, it's just a bit more than £100 saving, not including the extra plate, against their price. I don't think that's bad really considering all I've done is test it 8 weeks ago and set it up this afternoon. Cheers, Karl
22.
I'm just about to purchase a OBT. I'm wondering if I'd be better getting the 1000 or for most gigs would a 500 be ok? I think I'm going to get a SP210 to go with it as I can pick on up s/h easily enough. And also an Orange mini stack looks the nuts. Could you add a second SP210 to boost the volume at bigger gigs? If money was no object (and if it was orange) I'd get a barefaced compact.
The 1000 watt will only give you about 3db more than the 500. The Bass Terror is switchable between 4 and 8 ohms. The SP21O is 8 ohms, so using two is no prob, just set the swich on the back of the amp to 4ohms. Enjoy.
