1.
It's a very good point. People are sometimes a bit too precious about their pride and joy. You have to be realistic. Basses are, in this situation at least, much like cars. When you buy a new car, you will lose anything up to a third of it's value the moment you drive it off the forecourt - doesn't matter what it is. So it is with instruments. By the time you've owned and used it for a year or three it's sale value plummets. I'm not saying this because there's one that I'm after (quite the contrary as I've just done a very nice trade with another BC member), but asking 90% of it's retail value just ain't gonna do it I'm afraid - people are not stupid, especially when money's tight. Even on a spotless instrument I tend to think I'm doing really well if I can get back 60%. Each to their own, but if you're interested in actually selling it then you have to price it accordingly. (If you're doing it as an exercise in domestic politics then that's a different matter of course... )
Spot on. Both my basses are out at about 60% of new price. Still not selling mind . My last two have sold elsewhere, but as yet are not advertised there. Basschat is still always my first call. Surprisingly, social media is my second call now. Again, a couple of years back social media would not have entered the conversation, for me anyway.
2. See I never get this bitsa thing. There was a 70's P on here not long back, probably the worst example of bitsa I've seen. 71 stamped neck, body dated to 76, not original pots or pups yet out at £1200+. To me, that is a bitsa and frankly I would rather spend half that on a modern well made bass that I do not have to worry about provenance/being made a tit off. I do that very well myself.
3. I'm tempted too, cracking piece of kit.
4. My Sadowsky was one of the basses in question. Balance is a VERY important part of the equation. At 9lb 40z it's not that heavy. It is superbly balanced though, so feels much lighter. Basswood seems to be generally very light although rarely used on boutique. Bongo's are basswood as are Fender Aerodyne and quite a few Fender Japan. One of those basses tricked out with J East, better bridge, tuners etc may well be worth a thought, even if they do not have a boutique name on the headstock. Alembic are also worth a look , amazing basses with some having smaller bodies so quite light.
5. PM's replied ta . Yes, it is in the same condition as the photos. I get psychotic if anybody gets too close to my gear unsupervised.
6. The last 15 months traffic appears to have been down, judging by the numbers shown at the bottom of the home page. Perhaps, with the exception of the weak, like me, most people have sensibly got what they want. The irony is of course, prices dropping on here, yet going up on FEEBay and Bumtree. Even if they aren't selling there.
7.
If that was a rosewood board I'd be on me way to Wigan, now... ...and Karl; you have to top scrawling on them cushions. I'll not tell thi' again.
Art Mark tha' knows, art lad
8. Thanks charic, might just forget about that one then
9.
Not `alf, those basses look great with the stock scratchplate, but that tort transforms it to a much better look.
Yup, and unlike the ones of two years ago, these are passive YAY
10. Same for me Lozz, fabulous yet again Bass Doc. If you want to see some of his work go to forum "Gear", sub forum "bass guitars", topic "where has all the decent tortoiseshell gone". Many thanks yet again Howard, fabulous boss! No doubt will be in touch soon
11. This is from The Bass Doc's value range. Superb again Howard, cheers boss. 12. Noisyjon, can you work your pictorial magic with one of them black and white checkerboard scratchplates? Just kinda curious. Only seen one on Steve Harris's blue one.
13. PM replied, sorry, no trades it's a fund raiser. Only for sale until the Fender CS 1960 RI I am looking at, is sold. Cheers, Karl. edited for spelling as usual
14. Weighs 9lb 4oz 12 inch radius, flatter than most Fender's. That is probably why I find it to be so good. In reply to another question, yes it is active/passive with the VTC. Cheers, Karl.

16. Many thanks Martin. Cheers, Karl.
17.
Eh mate? Do I not agree with you often then? Most of those basses you dribble over in Basses For Sale are the exact ones I would have chosen. You have great taste in bass aesthetics.
Aw shucks
If you do, can I have your Super Twelve, please?
As long as you buy the matches for the cremation!
18. Bloody Hell, xilddx and discreet agreeing with me. I must kill myself before I wake up
19. Was hoping mine would arrive yesterday. Photo up when it does.
20. Form an orderly queue please
21. Thanks guys. A punter took that photo in [s]BurkeandHare [/s]Birkenhead last Sat night. The lights and black plate make it look dang purdy. Sorry for thread derail. Oh, and no plectrums used in this, I was finger picking the start of Afraid To Shoot Strangers.
22. For me, last of the slow numbers about 5th into 2nd set. Start really building it up from there. Numbers that are considered weaker, or generally not working, look to replace with new numbers. Try some different stuff, can be surprised at what works. We do a Saxon medley which for me is brain death boring yet most places the punters love it. Beginning and last 3 or 4 numbers of first set are vital. Last thing you need is people walking out between first and second sets. Those numbers need to be REALLY strong.
23.
hahahahaha, 'sup Karl? meaning? Interest rates are crap so why not buy a few nice basses that may increase in value given time.
Meaning? I will probably be doing an umbrella impression on that rainy day.. It will look nice next to Sunset Orange. 24. Well JBF, your Fodera is just amazing. No, I've not tried a NYC, too rich for my blood in the pubs we do every week . If I was still doing originals in bigger places I might re-think, but to be honest, a P or a J covers everything I need nowadays. Cheers, Karl.
25.
I have one that I bought not long ago on here and put it away for a rainy day, it's as new.
