1.
Still thinking about it. Guess I may need to get a move on! Not owned a Jazz before. I tried a new USA Standard on Saturday in a shop which was quite nice although still too bright for me and the action was too high. How does this compare in your opinion? Please don't pull the ad for a couple of days at least. Thanks.
Shops often do not set up new basses that are for sale. Even very expensive ones. Certainly costs them quite a bit in lost business in my personal experience. Bright? Could be new strings, amp, lots of things. Flats, older strings, foam dampeners will soon put a stop to that. Action, well, MOST used basses come quite well set up. Even if they don't, the technical section of Basschat is your friend. Even I learned how to set basses up from here, and I'm 1400 years old. Well, I feel it this morning Bump.
 2.
I agree re sound. I am curious about your bass so I went on YT. I could only find two demos. One guy had amazing tone. The other rubbish. I am actually looking to replicate the mid range of an old early 70s Musicmaster I bought when I was a kid but with more punch and obviously with a longer scale neck. I have a number of different basses which I may sell soon but nothing I have at least has that vintage sound.
This is one of the reasons everything is so subjective. Your early 70's Musicmaster would have been at a stage where the pups, neck, pots, strings etc were all worn in to some extent. Add to that the amp, cab that you used them with would have been at there own wearing in stage. Your technique may very well have changed dramatically since those early days. To go back to that moment in time and replicate everything as YOU REMEMBER it is going to be very difficult. People think I'm being a dick when I say I'm not prepared to spend money on recording gear, and learn how to do sound clips. Fair enough. I only play live. My basses sound like me live. Or the inflections I put on it. Anybody else uses my gear (VERY rare, I'm psychotic about looking after it) they don't sound like me, they sound like them. There are so many variables. For example, people buy a Chris Squires Rick to sound like him. They won't without his type of double amplification, effects units but most importantly his technique. To me, you decide what kind of bass should make the kind of sound you are after, then take it from there. My basses can all do passable JPJ, Steve Harris, Chris Squires impersonations. Passable, not perfect. Good enough for all the gigs I do. Sadly, I'm a magpie gear whore fully egged on by the for sale section here. Truth be told, the bass I gigged with for twenty plus year before Basschat should never have been sold to Gunsfreddy! Good luck in your search.
 3.
They told me it 'might' be available in July when I called them before. I subsequently called Wunjo who called Fender for me. Fender confirmed there wouldn't be any more coming to the UK
Certainly not quotable as fact but I think I read somewhere that the initial run of these, and the black ones were made for The Guitar Store in the states. Apparently Fender decided whilst they were at it they might as well make another 100 of each for the rest of the world. DO NOT take this as anything more than anecdotal By the way, last week, Promenade Music in Morecambe still had one of the original Sea Foam Green ACTIVE version of this bass in stock. That is the 2012 ACTIVE version which was definitely made in greater numbers. Just in case anybody was looking.
 4.
At the moment it is still collection only but I may have to reconsider my options if it doesn't sell very soon.
May one remind you that the first unsubtle hint regarding buying if couriered was made by my humble self on May 28th Or put another way, officially requesting first dibs please, if you do decide to courier. Merky buckets. Bump.
 5. Forgot about this thread. I've had one since mid Feb. Excellent P/J with jazz neck, quite light, easy to work on with headstock trussrod access and BadA** bridge. Nice noiseless jazz pup, well balanced with the P. Compared to my 2000 US Hot Rod, the pick ups are a little quieter. But my amp has a gain and volume control . In my opinion a well made and thought out gigging bass. Especially with a custom tort plate
 6. VERY disappointing.
 7.
I'll get that! It's the best guitar mag out there. Well done for getting a feature on your collection which I'l read with great interest.
This, well done Mr Eric!
 8.
This. And I don't think you can have a discussion involving Venom without mentioning the immense debt they owed Motorhead. Jon.
Oh yus!
 9.
This! Everyone should make a point of visiting BD at some point, if they can, it's well worth the trip. After all, what's the worst that can happen? You don't have to buy anything! But you probably will!
I was going to, but when I sent photos of a bass I wanted to trade, price I wanted against an expensive piece of kit, he came up short. When I said how much I wanted, against something that was a tad on the priced high side, I allowed for the fact he would need to make about 33% on mine as well. So for the sake of £50, he has lost profits of about £200 on mine and perhaps £400 on the one I was after. He has also lost a returning customer. So for me, not all rosy.
 10. Further pm's replied. It has been sold twice and both buyers have backed out allegedly due to spousal pressure. Does that happen ? OK so I reduced this uncommon combination of Fender's finest bits to that of less than some of the second hand output from Japan. Fender have never made a lot of factory passive p/j's but half the world (exaggeration) modified their P's like this in the 70's. I have had several requests to do sound clips. I'm old. 1. Don't have the equipment. 2. Have no idea how to do it. 3. It would sound completely different with somebody else playing it their way through their gear, Sorry. I don't refuse much but I don't have the life expectancy to figure that out So, as it stands looks like it's going to go in part ex where it will probably be put out at £850/£900. Unless somebody bites the bullet in the next day or so. Cheers, Karl.
 11.
How did I know Karl would be sniffing around this! Great basses with the s1 switches, have a bump
Olly, I'm hurt, hurt I say This jazz is 2002, one of the last WITHOUT the S1. I may need to realise some assets due to a once in a lifetime (aye, right ) £2400 incoming Custom Shop. So, get Dan's bass bought you lot. As you were, hijack over.
 12. If you sell you bass rather than find a trade, you may want to have a chat. One or both of the following MAY be coming up in the next week or so (not stealth, I'm fully paid up until next April!). The Sea Foam Pearl P/J is passive, with jazz nut width and noiseless J pup. Regardless, good luck. 13.
Taking advantage of the Carvin's 2ohm output Karl?
Surprisingly not Chris. I've had the Barefaced about 15 months (a record for the last decade), just a touch of trysomethingelseitis . Actually I wouldn't dare go to 2 ohms. Last night, fairly good sized pub room that was an acoustic pig. I will try the graphic eq for the first time thinks I. Miked up drummer, 2 Blackstar wielding guitarses through pa. Inverted smiley on eq, bloody Hell . I had to turn the drive and master both town to 7 o'clock. Staggering, but it sorted the room out
 14. Sorry guys, just noticed this. Following is a copy of a pm received from Dave on the 5th. "Hi again mate. Crazy few days and now on hols until the 13th June. Consider it fully on hold for you and I'll sort payment and shipping when I get back? Dave" If I don't get on with it, you will be the first to know
 15. Just a little update. The room at last nights gig was a complete pig. After a little whilst sound checking I though I will try it with the graphic eq. Hell's bells, the lift in volume was staggering . I don't smiley face eq, rather the frown face. I had to turn the drive and master down to 7 o'clock as it was just drowning everybody. Could probably use the eq as a boost channel for solo's. The more I learn about this little monster, the more I like
 16. Nice to see a good consensus from some people who have used the store. Well done Coda, Doug and his lads!
 17. I'm down to 4. Today. Who knows what tomorrow will bring That last step, down to three (two for gigs, one spare in case one is in dock) is proving very difficult. Gotta say, Hiram's GDS may well be one of the reasons it is much harder to sell on here (in general) now.
 18. Seconded Lozz, and the slightly slimmer nut at 40mm!
 19.
Cheers matey, I'm praying for serendipitous timing of a sale for me which will then provoke a sale for you and a new bass for me
Fingers crossed, more for your sale before you come to your senses
Is it sold with a hard case ? How much to ship to scotland ka73bw? cheers
1st picture, you can see it in the original Fender hard case it came in. It's battered but fully functional. £670 insured courier delivered to Ayr. By the way folks, if my feedback at the bottom of each of my posts isn't enough, the place I am getting my CS from had a comprehensive look over this whilst I was trying their basses. They agreed to give me what I was asking in part x. I will provide the name of that shop by PM if required.
 20. Fabulous cabs Andy and hugely tempted but firstly it's quite a bit more than the Hot Rod and secondly I would have to sell my Barefaced (post#32) , to get the final money for the CS. All this against a bit of a time schedule. Good luck with your sale.
 21. You may like to buy this superb piece of gear, so Mr. Dye can buy my Hot Rod!
 22. Thanks for all guys, friendly bunch you southerners aren't you You may regret your kind offers in a week or two
 23. REDUCED TO £650 COLLECTED FROM WIGAN BEFORE MONDAY 9TH JUNE! Would quite like to move this on now as I have found THE CS I am after. By mistake admittedly, but I've found her. So, if it's of interest, please let me know before she goes in p/x. Cheers, Karl.
 24.
Clearly going into the shop and trying it would be my preferred option, but neither are in Newcastle. And yes, I suppose I could ask GuitarGuitar to send them both to the shop, but what's the point if they're boat anchors? This shouldn't really be that complicated IMO. Other retailers have managed it...
Amen!
