Thanks fellas. Thinking about it, it's all irrelevant really, until I sell my Carvin. May have to take the hit on part ex. Mr. 77s, I found on some gigs with a Precision, it was very difficult to stop the B/F sounding almost farty. Often had to take as lot of bass off to get a controlled sound and sometimes even that didn't work. As ever though that was with my subjective thoughts.
McCormicks and Sound Control have both closed, Victor Morris is selling crossbows to lunatics, we have a lovely friendly shop called Strung Out Guitars that have some nice private sales passing through, they have a few vintage basses at the moment and service my Bassmans for me. Other than that it's GuitarGuitar. They don't even hold the larger TC amps/combos any more. It's a shame for Scotland's biggest city but there you are. I'll probably end up with Thomann and for a TH500 and a couple of Barefaced cabs as almost all chat is positive.
Sad to hear. Try and have a go on Barefaced, see if somebody relatively local can loan you one, especially live. They aren't for everyone. I really am preferring my MB cabs live. Go figure!
Have you been in touch with Drew @ Manchester Bass Lounge? He's to blame for my Markbass stack and Big Bang head...
I might do after his relaunch. I find his website difficult as I don't seem to able to find a section where he shows what stock is currently in. I would need to put aside 4 hours or so for traveling and the appointment. Not really comfortable with concept of how works tbh.

CUSTOM BUILD, not a FENDER. I prised this off Billy Apple (Sean) as a kind of Dusty Hill CS shop substitute, with it being one third of the cost of a Dusty. Very regrettably selling or trading as I simply can not get on with the deep C profile, Precision nut width neck. Same profile as the Sting, Harris, Dirnt necks, and some Custom Shop 50's basses. I knew it was a big neck when I bought it, but I knew best didn't I . This is a wonderful, VERY light top quality build. Sean has kindly given me permission to link to his build diary so, http://basschat.co.u...recision-build/ Some highlights. Marc Rutter 51 La Cabronita P bass body with 51' compensated bridge. TV Jones Thunderblade bridge position pup with nickel cover. Warmoth Quartersawn graphite rodded reverseTele headstock, deep C profile 11/16th's P width nut. Gotoh GBR Res-O-Lite 640 reverse vintage tuners in nickel. KiOgon Greasebucket circuit. There is one chip near the strap button and a little dint on back of the top horn. Both scratchplates included as is a cheap gig bag. Despite it being VERY light, it balances perfectly (no hands) on a 4" neoprene strap. THE ONLY thing I have put on (badly) is a 50's style Fender Precision decal. This bass cost Sean over £1300 to build, I bought it for £800 plus courier. If I sell that is what I would like please. I am open to trades, UK, Jazz or 40mm nut width please, 4 string, fretted, and don't be offended if any trades value is measured against recent actual sales on BC. People may put Millers out at £800 but they rarely sell at that. I also have up to about £400 I could put on top for something at around £1200, say Metro Sadowsky, just hit me. Feedback at bottom of this post. Based in Wigan, cheers, Karl. My pup screws are fine however I will be taking them out one at a time, lubricating, then replacing. So they stay fine. Very seriously thinking about a second commission now I know I hummed and hawed about the one Raslee bought, so probably something very akin to that.
Glasgow is now rubbish too, officially! When get the cash together and tranquillise the wife for long enough I'll make a day of it and head to London to try out Aguilar etc
Seem to remember McCormacks, one in Otago St, Sound Control Jamaica St? were ok. Victor Morris? had the occasional item of interest and there was another near that, where I bought my 7 string Conklin bass but the name escapes me now. Sad they can't produce some decent gear amongst them although I realise there is a lot more available now so stock costs would be higher. Regardless, that is why they lose out to online retailers I guess.
I'm in exactly the same position Karl! I've mentioned before I just cannot try out what I want to anymore from retailers without travelling miles, even out of Scotland completely! Such a pain as may have to take a 1500-2000 pound plunge for TH500 and 2x210 cabs without even properly trying them. Sign of the times perhaps as high street stores struggle to keep the business going. This is probably the reason I'm reading you guys post on here.
I know what you mean. I lived in Bannockburn for 13 years and the only place to try stuff was Glasgow. With it's traffic and it's parking That's why, with the exception of heads, which to me must work and be under warranty, I always buy used. Simply to minimise losses if me no like

Top quality service and products. Used them many times and find no need to look elsewhere.

Liking my current cabs VERY much, surprisingly more than the B/F S12V I used for 18 months. Shame the Carvin overhangs a bit

No answer to that is there A few offers for trades, especially Ampegs, so may have to learn to live with it. Not a huge problem as it is an excellent amp with masses of tone shaping and volume. Carvin are not that well known this side of the pond, here's a bit from the dark side CARVIN BX700 & 4-10 CAB ... WOW !! | TalkBass.com EDIT, just found the following demo. The Gain/Master he's got it on, I wouldn't like to be in the same room Have a look at my photos in post#1 for last weeks gigging settings, with mic'ed up drummer and two Blackstar valve half stack guitards Carvin BX700 Bass Amp Overview - YouTube

I am a magpie gear whore and as such, buy and sell far too much. I rarely drop a price when selling. This is because I always sell gear at a price that I think is fair to both buyer and myself. Recently I have found that Gumtree and Facebook have worked better, simply because I can offer them cheaper than FEEBay, and there isn't as much quality opposition as there is on Basschat Final price drop to me (with respect) is for those who NEED to sell, or perhaps were a little optimistic to start with. Just an opinion.

Think this guy needs to check the price !!!
karlfer replied to ambient's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I've kinda stopped pointing these out as I got flamed, along the lines of buyers choice whether to buy or not. That was about 7/8 months ago, regarding a second hand active Mex P Special out in an EBay shop at £825, when new, warranted ones could be bought for £730. Strangely enough that bass is still for sale FEEBay , the charges are that high now, that this will only happen more and more. Nice one pointing it out. -
I know just how annoying the 'overhang' can be.. VBA 400 and Sound City 120 with Barefaced Dubster. A great amp, hope sale goes well. Have you thought about a keyboard rack or some kind of amp stand - save the amp from vibration induced fatigue..... Save ££
Good thought but in this case I don't need to. The feet on the amp kind of overhang and keep the head in place. It's just I like neat and tidy and a head should never overhang. It just looks wrong. To fusspots like me

Thanks for the input folks. Shui and Lozz, confirming my thoughts, ta. James, sadly Doncaster and Sheffield would both turn out to be about 4 hour round trips with all the roadwork crap that is going on. Annoyingly I was in Sheffield 3 weeks back but I wasn't looking at the time. The road works around Hillsboro were a bloody nightmare. Martyn, Guiness I'm fairly sure that although MBL can get you anything, I'm not so sure they have much MB actually in stock. Their website, imo, is bloody awful. I don't really need to know they had a 121 NY in, in August 2013. I hope their re-branding sorts that out. Of course, it could just be me getting into the wrong part of their website, but that brings the question that if they want everybody to know, do they need to cater for the lowest (IQ) common denominator. IE me. Barrie, I'm just so glad I can't drop in your gaff. I would be permanently in debt. I've had quite a bit off you in the last couple of months and will be back. An unsolicited top shop and service from me Mr.

Going back to Markbass after GK ( choice of two heads )
karlfer replied to flippyfloop's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hmm, points. You are a loon If you like build up songs you'd have loved Foo Fighters But Honestly. Wish I could hide behind a pillar We kinda leaned the keep the volume sane (especially 1st set) quite a while back. Needless to say there are some who scream to turn it up, but the majority who talk to us like the fact their ears aren't bleeding. See you soon and many thanks for coming. -
Yamaha Attitude Bass £180 on Gumtree
karlfer replied to Weststarx's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yup, it's an Attitude Standard. Not one of the range of Billy's Ltd models, or even the Attitude Special, which was quite close. This is still a good bass at a decent price, but these were just "run of the mill" models. -
I am wondering if anybody has tried the Tone Hammer with Markbass cabs, in particular 2 x Traveler 102p 210's. Around Manchester area there is no retailer (that I can find), where I can try Markbass amps or the Tone Hammer. I'm guessing the Markbass heads will work very well, but would like input re the Aguilar if possible. I am stacking these cabs vertically so need something narrower than the Carvin. Gutted that I was offered a SVT 7 Pro Ampeg and couldn't take it. Because of width and I have never got on with Ampeg It did look fantastic though! Cheers in advance Basschat Collective.
This is a lot of amp for the price. Anyone who gets this will be very happy
Yup, 60 year old American company, not as well known as they should be. I mean, they even made custom guitars/amps for some geezer called Vai
why not use the carvin vertically too - may help with sound dispersion
As in falling off the top and bouncing around
CDO - like OCD but in the correct order. on that topic... I was pretty relieved to find the Gator 6U case that arrived today is the same footprint as the top of my Traveller cabs - no overhang!
Aha, gotcha now . I'm old and originally from Darlington, I demand allowances
Karl, ha ha yep, it was annoying me too for my brief (cameo?) appearance on Friday....
Bloody Hell Martyn, must have been brief, I didn't see you Good job really as it was a bit of a disaster one way or another Thankfully Saturday wasn't, but some precocious girlies made me rather nervous. Mind, it was Walkden -
Geek99 - apologies, I should have been more specific re: the tort - it has a fairly authentic red celluloid look but I was referring primarily to the relicing - it's excellent and the faked 'crack' behind a screw is very cute. Re: the frozen bridge, it was perhaps over-relived and the process (oxidisation) had interfered with function. One intonation screw and six of the saddle screws were entirely frozen - various solvents/lubricants/techniques failed to free them. Mark politely acknowledged the problem and is likely to offer advice/guidance in the future. I replaced all intonation screws and saddles - the latter with inexpensive but good brass barrels. The barrels are not threaded but its not an issue for me - the bass plays beautifully
I had the same issue with the screws on the saddles rusted in place. A £10 bridge off FEEBay, replaced the saddles/intonation screws on the bass and now it's perfect and set up how I like it.
Is he going to join basschat? The banter between the two of you might be quite entertaining!
ESPECIALLY in the years to come Well done that man!
