1. My covers band asked me to learn wonderwall. I'd play mustang sally instead, as it fits in with a lot of other soul/rnb/motown stuff we do
2. When I took bass lessons for the first time, many years into my "career", I was afraid the classically trained bass player I hired would come down really hard on my left and right hand technique. Surprisingly he didn't. He gave me a few exercises for the left hand, and stated that as long as I could play all I wanted comfortably, I was just fine. On the other hand, if I wanted to go particularly fast or achieve other special results, I would have to re-learn a few things. Fantastic advice, i've been going with that all the time.
3. After the house move, this is the new amps corner. The TC RH450 normally lives in the bag, ready for gigging.
4. My T40 has a different writing on the headstock, looks like a transition period I don't have the serial number on me just now, I seem to recall it was dated to late 1979/early 1980. Only some of the patents had been granted at the time, it seems.
5. I had one for a while, loved the tone, but ultimately didn't get along with the shape and balance when playing it standing up. I would get another one if I was recording certain things... Don't underestimate the brightness and clarity of the pickups, they overdrive beautifully IMO
6. We made a few flip camera videos at practice, all featuring yours truly on T40. Lots of mistakes, but a chance to hear the T40 through the practice room's Ampeg 450 (solid state) and 8x10. I normally set it up with both pickups on and in pahse, neck pickup fully open (humbucking, 10 on the dial), and the bridge pickup at 7 (humbucking but brighter). Strings are picatos roundwounds. 7.
Ahhh, well - there might be a reason for that. That is a rare 8M with the line around the TRC and. . . . . . the original warranty!! Got to dash but I will come back tomorrow on this and to catch up on the recent "Forty" activity. Cheers.
You can't play the warranty I know it matters for collectors, but i'm not one
8. Our current PA does have a sub, an active down-firing monster that weighs about as much as a small planet and never sees the outside of the drummer's garage. Essentially, all we need is a PA for small to small-medium venues (pub, small hall, etc), which can fit in a smaller storage space and doesn't weigh as much as the old one. For anything bigger than that we are planning to hire. The point of the electronic drumkit is to be able to play at lower volume without losing dynamics (as much as you can with an e-kit, but you know what I mean), so the power needed is a little less of an issue. The package deals look interesting, I shall keep looking around while we build up the cash
9. All of these videos are really well made and well played. Is there a thread where you can show less high quality stuff?
10. Hang on to it, I've been persuaded to hold onto my vintage valve bass head The clincher is that it would cost you 3x the price if you want to buy another all valve amp...
11. The soundspares stuff looks very interesting, shame about the poor design of the website Would you recommend mid-hi tops and a sub, or a sub with a crossover and full range tops?
12. Very interesting, thank you. Looking forward to next instalment
13. I think you're probably better off getting one shipped from the US. The original case is one the sturdiest i've ever seen, so a good example with OHSC should be ideal, and would still cost less than some of the ones on offer in the shops here
14.
That, and the fact that we're holding a bass.
Oh, you mean the large guitar?
15. people said I look the part when I sit behind the drumkit. Give that i'm a bass player, I'm a little concerned...
16. Any of the mini amp heads mentioned above, and one or two fender rumble 1x12 cabs. Light, small, cheap, good sounding, and definitely giggable. I use two with any of my amps, worked perfectly fine for any gig I did (small rooms, medium rooms, small outdoor stage, monitoring for larger outdoor stage).
17. Our band needs to replace our tired (and very heavy and bulky) PA system, which has been with us several years, and with another band several years before that. We normally use it for gigs of up to around 150 people in a medium-sized room. We have two pole mounted full range HZ cabs, driven by a 350W+350W studiomaster 700d power amp. We run three vocal mics, and occasionally keys and electronic drumkit through it. More often than not, we find that we run it at full pelt, both at the amp and at mixer controls. Perhaps the rooms we work have bad sound characteristics, or the speakers are not very efficient, don't know. We are essentially looking for something less bulky but equivalent in terms of loudness, so we were thinking of getting active speakers, and perhaps a subwoofer to help out with the e-drumkit. Budget-wise, we are looking to stay under the £700 mark. Anybody has any recommendations?
18. Not quite classy or arrogant enough to be Police.... So Lonely in a Bottle?
19. I've recently played one, and I controversially think it's a bit of a toy. It's essentially an ashbory bass in an ukulele shell, and it needs to be amplified to be heard. Soundwise, it has an interesting DB tone, but I can't see it being used instead of one anywhere. Sorry, not for me!
20. I regularly pick up one of my basses and play for a little while, not necessarily a particular riff or bassline or exercise. Just to keep musical focus between practices and gigs. I practice in a slightly more structured manner if i'm trying to learn a new song, or coming up with a line for an original
21. Good Halloween gig on saturday night, most people made an effort to dress up, including the band. Bass rig drama was narrowly averted when I manage to dig out a speakon to jack speaker lead from our Box O'Leads. I have misplaced all the amp leads after my house move, and hadn't realized until late afternoon, when I was setting up the rig. Unfortunately I had to go with just one 1x12 speaker, so the sound was a little boxy, but hey ho, all my fault! All in all a pretty good performance, crowd loved it even if we weren't quite so confident on the newer songs...
22. My Ned Callan has a large (casing) pickup right up by the neck. It sounds nothing like an EB0 (http://basschat.co.uk/topic/114409-peter-cook-guitar-maker/page__view__findpost__p__1112031)
